My son ‘Vyom’ always questioned me, how his favourite fruit watermelon is grown? Is the watermelon plant a shrub, creeper or a tree? What a better way to give him a learning on a farm Children don’t have a full understanding of where our food comes from by just reading it in the books. By visiting a farm they can experience firsthand where and how they get their favorite foods. Farms are a magical place for little eyes and hands! And I never realised that spending a day on a farm, will change the way he use to see food. Now, he has realised the efforts behind the growns, and now I don’t have to tell him why he shouldn’t waste food or leave anything on his plate. I think every parent should take their kids once to a farm. As they learn the importance and when the kids grow and raise their own food are more likely to waste less and learn healthy eating habits. One such place to see, learn and experience about cultivation of crops is Shivar Agro Tourism. The farm is located in Wada, Palghar district, it is 90 kms from Mumbai, which is approx 2 hours driving distance by car. This beautiful farm is surrounded by agricultural areas and green plants that are perfect for relaxing or for activities such as camping, educational trip, motivational camps and

family gettogether. Facilities available at Farm includes an wide open area and an indoor hall that can accommodate up to 50 people, dining area, a 2 bedroom Bungalow, a dormitory that accommodate 20 pax and campsites, other offering at the farm are rock pool, toilets and bathrooms, catering services. We also had a guided tour to the farm specially curated for children and adult too. They give the information about how the watermelons are grown, cultivated and transported to the market. Vyom also learned how you can check which watermelon will be sweeter. Over here farmer cultivate 'Yellow Watermelons’ and bet you, these are sweeter then the regular ones. These newly cultivated watermelons appear green from outside but have yellow flesh when cut open. And the other cultivation is Yellow from outside with red flesh. After a farm visit you can enjoy rain/fog dance, Tarpa Dance (local tribal dance, Tarpa is an instrument which is played by locals to celebrate harvest). And many more activities such as Bon fire, Archercy, Warli / Tiles painting, Trekking to Kohoj fort, Star Gazing, Cycling, Tractor ride. For more info - http://www.shivaragrotourism.com/

INTERNATIONAL

HOSPITALITY

#GoDirect #BookDirect #OrderDirect launched new campaign to revive Hospitality Industry The Federation of Hotel & Restaurant Associations of India (FHRAI) has initiated #GoDirect campaign requesting patrons to book their hotel stays - #BookDirect or order their food by contacting the restaurants directly - #OrderDirect. For over eight months, the Hospitality industry experienced its worst times and several hotels and restaurants closed. The industry has appealed to customers to support their favorite restaurants and hotels by eliminating the intermediaries and reduce the burden of exorbitant commissions levied by the online travel aggregators (OTAs) and the food service aggregators (FSAs). The #GoDirect campaign will be supported by member hotel and restaurant establishments of the FHRAI and its regional Associations – Hotel and Restaurant Association of Western India (HRAWI), Hotel and Restaurant Association of Northern India (HRANI), Hotel and Restaurant Association of Eastern India (HRAEI) and South India Hotels and Restaurants Association (SIHRA). “The Hospitality industry is on the brink of collapse and needs urgent support. It is not just for the sake of businesses in the industry but also for the millions of people who are employed by it. Hotels and restaurants account for 35 million or around 12.5 per cent of the total employment generated in the country and supports jobs directly and indirectly across India. There is acute need for hospitality businesses to generate revenues. Businesses of OTAs and FSAs are directly dependent on hotels and restaurants and if hotels and restaurants don’t survive, the

OTAs and the FSAs won’t survive either. #GoDirect is aimed at salvaging from what we have. For every order or booking made through the FSAs or OTAs, we lose anywhere between 20 to 30 per cent as commission. We request our patrons to directly visit the websites of hotels or restaurants for booking rooms #BookDirect or for ordering food - #OrderDirect. Even if customers do switch to this practice temporarily for the next few months, it will help the Hospitality industry immensely,” says Mr Gurbaxish Singh Kohli, Vice President, FHRAI. The pandemic is threatening the existence of the Hospitality industry with a large number of hotels and restaurants permanently closing down or considerably scaling down operations. The #GoDirect, #BookDirect and #OrderDirect campaigns are initiated with the objective of saving on exorbitant commissions which could be directed towards helping a Hospitality establishment revive. “The FHRAI is committed to protecting hotel and restaurant establishments’ interests. As such already the aggregators have choked the entrepreneurial aspirations and enterprise of many hotels and restaurants. Unsuspecting maverick start-up founders entered the Industry with online apps and have now stifled hoteliers and restaurateurs to a point where they have very little choice but to shut shop today, or slowly bleed to death. We are hoping that with our customers’ support, we will be able to give hotels and restaurants a fighting chance at sustaining business,” concludes Mr. D V S Soma Raju, Honorary Treasurer, FHRAI.

Middle East spend on international leisure travel to exceed pre-COVID levels by 10% in 2024 According to Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2021, the amount of money that Middle East travellers spend on international leisure travel, will begin to exceed 2019 pre-COVID levels, in as little as three years. This is supported by forecast analysis carried out by Tourism Economics (TE)*. “This is very encouraging,” said Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, which will take place in-person at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) 16-19 May 2021. “In 2019, spending on international leisure travel in the Middle East was significant, representing 47% of the total overall travel spend, compared with 37% spent on domestic leisure travel and 8% each on international and domestic business travel. “In 2020, spending on international leisure travel was only 20% of the amount spent a year earlier. However, this year, spending compared with 2019, will recover to around 50%. It will increase to 75% in 2022 and 95% in 2023, until 2024, when spending in this segment will exceed pre-COVID levels by up to 10%,” added Curtis.

ATM 2021 will also play an integral role in Arabian Travel Week and for the first time, a new hybrid format will be in place. This means an additional virtual ATM will be organised to run the following week, which will complement the in-person event by accommodating visitors who may be unable to travel to Dubai. The inaugural ATM Virtual 2020 attracted 12,000 online attendees from 140 countries, over three days. ATM 2021's strategic partners include Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) as Destination Partner, Emaar Hospitality Group as Official Hotel Partner and Emirates as Official Airline Partner. Dubai is one of the safest cities in the world to visit with a wide range of precautionary measures in place to ensure the safety of tourists at every stage and touchpoint of their travel journey, from arrival to departure. Dubai's commitment to maintaining the highest standards of hygiene and safety and its effective citywide management of the pandemic received a strong endorsement from the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC), which gave the city a 'Safe Travels' stamp.

MICE TCEB's First Thailand Mice Virtual Expo Attracts 7,755 Participants From 33 Countries

178 buyers met 30 Thai exhibitors over 580 businessmatching sessions, while eight industry webinars and eight cultural workshops gave audiences an idea of how MICE entrepreneurs in Thailand have pivoted during the pandemic and Thai culture can be presented in a fresh, engaging manner to MICE visitors. 7,755 online participants from 33 countries participated with over 580 business-matching sessions in the first Thailand MICE Virtual Expo organised by Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB). Held from February 24–25, 2021, the event gave international MICE buyers and stakeholders a timely update on Thailand's MICE market and what industry leaders are doing to ensure business continuity and competitiveness. TCEB President, Mr Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, said: “Exhibitors at TCEB's Thailand MICE Virtual Expo appreciated the opportunity to connect with international buyers during this time of uncertainty and separation. It was important for all of us in MICE to continue building relationships with prospective clients so that Thailand remains an attractive and promising destination in our client's consciousness. TCEB's virtual expo is a credible, industry-supported platform designed to fulfil this need for interaction and knowledge-exchange. The business-

matching sessions are geared towards business development while the webinars highlighted the outlook and opportunities in Thailand's key industries and how MICE can help entrepreneurs and investors in these industries grow their businesses.” There were eight webinars featuring 17 speakers from Thailand's key strategic industries. The speakers shared their experiences in the new normal and their strategies for MICE going forward. The webinar on Thai food industry, for example, highlighted the innovative hybrid format the Department of International Trade Promotion adopted to promote Thai food products among overseas buyers who were not able to travel to Thailand. Many of the webinar speakers also noted that digitalisation is more than just a new way to meet but also a powerful tool for ecosystem development, omni-channel engagement and partnerships. A recurring comment was the need to exploit the true power of digital and not use it to solely replicate a physical meeting. The virtual expo was not all business and trade. There were also eight fun and breezy cultural workshops presented by six personable instructors whose subjects – photography, food, Muay Thai, puppetry, Thai massage, and floral arrangement – can add a distinctively Thai flavour to any MICE programme.
