RX Global, organiser of Arabian Travel Market (ATM), has announced that the 2022 edition of its annual showcase, will focus on the future of international travel and tourism and the likely challenges and the benefits, for a resilient industry that is still coming to terms with the new normal. “COVID-19 has dominated our lives since March 2020 and continues to do so in many parts of the world. However, although international travel & tourism has learnt from past experiences and adapted in some cases almost seamlessly, we now have an ideal opportunity to look ahead to the future of our industry. “Dwelling too much on the pre-covid past, would not necessarily be productive, especially because so many industry parameters and social attitudes have since been completely reset,” said Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market. “Undoubtedly innovation through IoT, AI, AR, VR and improved connectivity overall, will change the face of our industry dramatically, however, there are other challenges, that we should address together and share industry best practice. “These issues include climate change and broader social challenges, as well as stakeholder attitudes towards equity in health, education and economic opportunity, particularly in the communities that we operate in,” added Curtis. Now in its 29th year and working in collaboration with the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), the event, will take place live and inperson at the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) from Sunday 8 to Wednesday 11 May. In similar fashion to the 2021 format, a virtual edition will again take place the following week on Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 May 2022.

South African Tourism Unveils Dynamic Tourism Recovery Strategy for India Inspired by border openings and increased confidence in travel, South African Tourism held their maiden virtual roadshow in India to capitalize on the strong consumer and corporate traveller demand in the country. The ‘VirtuallyYoursSouthAfrica’ roadshow is expected to boost tourism economies in both nations, especially as the South African national tourism board focuses on bullishly driving strategic recovery measures in India. The Way Forward Hospitality Sector’s continued Sluggish Recovery Safari Plus INTALK with Mr. S.P. Jain, Chairman and Managing Director, The Pride Groups of Hotels and Resorts. Q1) Tourism & Hospitality sector’s continued sluggish recovery? What factors according to you are still hampering the recovery in the sector? The situation in the world is still evolving. The recovery of the sector has been hampered by the lack of international Travel, severe travel restrictions, and the pace of vaccination, the efficacy of vaccines, high infection rates, and the possibility of a third Covid wave. Q2) Despite all the hindrances and challenges faced this year, we have finally learnt to live with the new normal. How do you see the industry at present? We have seen the changed consumer perspective from pre to post-pandemic situation. Now with luxury, safety is also equally important. Hospitality groups are taking time and re-strategizing on how to ensure efficient consumer service and safety. During the pandemic, the hospitality industry was looking for short-term gain strategies dropped by most as they will focus on value creation for the years ahead. Q3) Hotels and Resorts are designing staycation & drivacations packages, how effective it was to control the damage of the floundering economy? The covid 19 pandemic led the world to cancel vacations and business trips this year. Due to the travel restrictions, many people opted for drivacations. The recovery trajectory for hotels was dependent on drivacations offerings that target the domestic traveler, as no major corporate blocks/bookings were coming in at that point in time. Q4) According to you what are the trends among travelers in this revival stage? The government of India recently announced 5 Lakhs free tourism visas. This initiative will give a much-needed boost

and play a crucial role in the growth of inbound tourism. Weekend tourism will get a much-needed fillip with more travelers opting for short breaks within the periphery of the city. Another unique trend in the hospitality sector is personalized celebrations in the hotel rooms for small functions, get together and birthday parties. Usually, such celebrations are hosted in restaurants which are usually crowded. Now with these unique sales schemes offering inroom celebrations the guests can avail themselves more privacy and follow adequate safety protocols. This in turn will also boost the room occupancy for the hotels and F&B sales. Q5) The future is bright (no doubt about it) and many opportunities are coming ahead for Tourism & Hospitality Industry, your message to newcomers who are seeking the opportunity in the Industry? During the tough time of covid 19, the hoteliers have shown a true resilient spirit. The industry learned to live with the new normal and emerged from it. The one thing I will tell the newcomers is that keep moving forward, keep innovating ways to shine in the work you do.

Reopening Thailand for MICE The Center of Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA), Thailand's government's body overseeing disease control measures and COVID19 policies, has approved TCEB's proposal to allow MICE events to be held under “COVID Free Setting” protocols, effective October 16. The approval follows the government's announcement on October 11 that fully-vaccinated overseas visitors will be allowed to enter Thailand without having to serve quarantine from November 1. The reopening will begin with a list of countries the CCSA considers lowrisk, such as the US, UK, China, Germany and Singapore. Also announced were shortened curfew hours, fewer provinces categorised as maximum controlled and strict zone where stringent controls are mandatory for gatherings, and allowing domestic flights to operate at full capacity. The approval of TCEB's MICE proposal was the result of the collaboration between TCEB, Department of Health, Department of Disease Control of The Ministry of Public Health, and 23 partner organisations, such as Tourism Authority of Thailand, Thai Chamber of Commerce, Thai Exhibition Association, Business Creative and Event Management Association, and Thai Hotels Association. With the green light, organisers of meetings, trade fairs, and festivals can now proceed to plan events with more attendees that will stimulate the broader economy. Under TCEB's proposal, limits on a venue's operating hours and number of attendees will be relaxed. Trade fair centres, convention centres, exhibition halls, and event spaces in hotels and department stores will be allowed to operate until 22.00 hrs. in all cities and provinces. The number of attendees allowed will depend on the event site's risk level. There are five levels – maximum controlled and strict zone (highest risk), maximum controlled zone, controlled zone, high surveillance zone, and surveillance zone (lowest risk). For maximum controlled and strict zone, the number of attendees allowed has been raised from 25 to 50; for maximum controlled zone, from 50 to 100; for controlled zone, from 100 to 200; and for high surveillance zone, from 200 to 300. However, for surveillance zone, the number has been maintained at 500. This easing of restrictions will require venues and organisers to strictly follow a set of three “COVID Free Setting” protocols covering the event environment, personnel, and customers: COVID Free Environment requires attention to hygiene at every touch point, availability of hand wash stations and hand sanitisers, individual servings of all foods and beverages, screening of organisers and staff, pre-event and onsite communication on safety measures, a risk and emergency management plan, social distancing of at least

one metre and at least 4 sqm for each attendee, a limit of two hours per meeting session, and good air ventilation. COVID Free Personnel requires organisers and venues to deploy only fully-vaccinated staff with a screening and risk record. Staff must undergo self-test with Antigen Test Kit (ATK) and test negative no more than 72 hours prior to reporting for work. Gathering while on duty and during breaks are prohibited. Operation zones must be clearly designated and cross-zone operations must be avoided. COVID Free Customer requires an examination of an attendee's risk profile and proof of full vaccination. The attendee must strictly follow “DMHTA” – distancing, mask wearing, hand washing, temperature testing, download of Thai Chana application. Additionally, attendees must keep watch of any possible COVID-19 symptoms during attendance and postevent for at least 14 days. To organise an event, the organiser must first develop a plan based on “COVID Free Setting”, produce an emergency plan and select a venue certified with SHA+ and TMVS Plus 2HY. The plan must then be submitted for review by the communicable disease committee of the city where the event will be held. T h e implementation of “COVID Free Setting” will be randomly inspected by officers from the city's public health authorities or communicable disease committee. After event, the organiser must submit a report to the city's communicable disease committee and safekeep the record of attendees for at least 14 days. Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President of Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) stated that “TCEB's proposal incorporating “COVID Free Setting” is the first step towards reviving MICE in Thailand. The next step would be for TCEB and its partners to push for further easing, especially for larger size events.” Mr. Chiruit added that TCEB's proposal is to unlock cities to host events by implementing a high standard of safety. The last quarter of the year is usually a peak period for Thailand's MICE industry and the proposal is expected to benefit around 1,000 wait-listed events in Bangkok and other cities. With the go-ahead by CCSA, TCEB's proposal will pave the way for a broad spectrum of stakeholders such as venues, hotels, transport operators, restaurants, and other related businesses to kick-start their operations, which will in turn stimulate the local economy and facilitate income distribution throughout the country. However, the implementation of TCEB's proposal is subject to the trajectory of the COVID situation and TCEB and its partners are prepared to recalibrate the industry's response to stay on course to re-open Thailand for MICE.

INSIGHT Thai contingents at IT&CMA 2021 Thailand at IT&CMA and CTW 2021. Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) in partnership with Thailand Incentive and Convention Association (TICA) is leading 20 Thai exhibitors to present their best offer. The exhibitors are all from the destinations having been opened or set to open soon, while it is the first time that representatives of all 10 Thai MICE cities, led by TCEB's 4 regional offices, will be present to showcase their appeal and unique products. It is Thailand's widest choice of destinations ever offered at IT&CMA and CTW, which will underpin TCEB's campaign “Thailand: Redefine Your Business Events Experience the Extraordinary” The 20 exhibitors are 15 hotels, 1 convention center and 4 destination management companies from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket and Khao Lak. The 10 MICE cities comprise, apart from Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Phuket and Khon Kaen, new comers like Nakhon Ratchasima, Udon Thani, Songkhla, Surat Thani and Phitsanulok. The destinations represented this year is significant for they are the strongest signal yet of the re-opening of Thailand for international travel. Phuket re-opened in July under a “Phuket Sandbox” framework, while Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phetchaburi, Prachuab Kirikhan (including Hua Hin), and Chonburi (including Pattaya) are set, according the government's plan, to follow suit in weeks to come. This means full vaccinated travellers from overseas should soon be able to enter Thailand via any of these gateway cities. Details of the plan are expected very soon. TCEB President Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, said: “TCEB and the Thai Team will again be present to reaffirm Thailand's exceptional appeal and reconnect with friends and colleagues from all over. We will once again invite the world to 'Experience the Extraordinary' – by discovering anew our destinations, the business opportunities, and our MICE expertise, a result of our intensive development initiatives when the situation is not permitting overseas travel. It has been an extraordinary year for us and we are delighted to be back. We will continue to champion the cause of business events and work with partners local and overseas to uphold Thailand's distinction for MICE.” The “Phuket Sandbox” has also been a factor. 35,437 overseas travellers and 540,490 booked room nights were recorded. Since September 1, the Thai government has been easing restrictions on travel and group activities. The domestic flights in and out of Bangkok are restarting operation, while gatherings of up to 25 persons in Bangkok and up to 100 in Phuket are now allowed. Dining-in, foot massage and beauty salon services have also resumed. Several infrastructure projects that will facilitate MICE have also been completed recently: the subway connection to the historic quarter of Bangkok's Chinatown, and the electric commuter train service linking Don Mueang Airport and the new Bang Sue Grand Station. The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) has also confirmed its re-opening in September 2022 when the revamp currently underway to boost its total area to 280,000 sqm is completed. An encouraging development is that TCEB's MICE Venue Hygiene Guidelines has now been widely accepted by MICE entrepreneurs and venue operators. Thailand's Ministry of Public Health recognises MICE as a key economic activity and has supported TCEB in the promotion of a coordinated national hygiene policy. The positioning of Thailand's MICE Cities and the development of new products and new routes under TCEB's Thailand 7 MICE Magnificent Themes have been major projects in the past year. TCEB introduced Nakhon Ratchasima and Songkhla as Thailand's latest MICE Cities. TCEB has currently five key support schemes for MICE and the two – “SMILE” and “Convene Plus – will be highlighted at IT&CMA. “SMILE” offers support in cash and kind for corporate and incentive groups holding their events in Thailand anytime until September 30, 2022. SMILE is short for Safe Meeting and Incentive Localised Experience. “Convene Plus” will support conventions that demonstrate a strong social, economic or environmental impact, apply hybrid or online technologies, or work with local suppliers. TCEB welcomes enquiries on its other four campaigns as well – “Re-Energizing Exhibitions” for exhibitions, “Festival Economy” for festivals and mega events, “MICE Winnovation” for MICE-specific innovation development and application.

Sept - Oct, 2021

one metre and at least 4 sqm for each attendee, a limit of two hours per meeting session, and good air ventilation. If the committee requires any a d j u s t m e n t s , t h e o rg a n i s e r m u s t c o m p l y. Whether admiring the vibrant colours along scenic country lanes or enjoying breezy and lively evenings in the capital, Baku, autumn is a wonderful time to visit Azerbaijan. Summers in the country last right up till the end of September, followed by colourful and chilly autumns, which you can fully enjoy in these great places: Bordered by the Caspian Sea and the majestic Talish Mountains, Lankaran is ideally located between two of Azerbaijan's best nature reserves. The fabulous wetlands of the Gizil Aghaj reserve on the Caspian coast are famous for their abundance of water birds that make the national park a perfect destination for birdwatchers. Meanwhile, the Hirkan National Park spreads throughout the Lankaran and Astara regions and is a botanist's paradise, home to a huge variety of rare tree species, including ancient iron trees that survived the last Ice Age, as well as the endangered Caucasian leopard. Over a dozen marked routes offer great hiking opportunities, some with lunch stops and tea breaks along the way in timeless local villages. One such village is Sim in Astara, located in the heart of Talish mountains. Sim has a unique and very different atmosphere due to the tall old trees and large mossy rocks between and around the houses in the village. You will encounter a wonderful surprise in the woods nearby - Sim Waterfall. Here you can have a picnic or drink the famous Astara tea made with a samovar and the narrow footpath

leading to the waterfall will give you a real sense of adventure. Goygol National Park is famous for its stunning lakes with crystal-clear water, the largest of which is Lake Goygol. Lying 1,500 metres above sea level in the Lesser Caucasus Mountains surrounded by lush forests and backed by Mt Kapaz, many consider Goygol (meaning 'Blue Lake') to be Azerbaijan's most beautiful lake. Shahdag National Park is the largest protected area in Azerbaijan, covering over 130 thousand hectares. Outdoor activity fans should definitely pay attention to the unique Shahdag mountain, whose peak reaches 4,243 metres above sea level. The routes for climbers and hikers will allow you to enjoy mesmerizing landscapes adorned with alpine lakes and picturesque canyons accompanied by peaceful silence along the way. In addition, adventurous tourists will be able to see ancient bridges, caravan routes and other historical monuments that have survived to this day. Finally, lovers of extraordinary landscapes should definitely visit the mud volcanoes located near the Gobustan Reserve. Azerbaijan is home to the world's greatest concentration of mud volcanoes, numbering about 400 in total. While smaller than normal volcanoes, they can reach heights of 700 metres and even erupt occasionally. Near the Gobustan Reserve, just 1.5-hour drive from Baku, a Mud Volcanoes Tourism Complex will soon open allowing tourists to explore the amazing moonlike landscapes.

African Wildlife Foundation Announces Successful Return of In-person Wildlife Safari in African Countries To celebrate the safe restart of inperson travel to Africa’s vast natural landscapes, African Wildlife Foundation Safari Program announced the completion of two successful, in-person, safaris in Tanzania, recently operated in August, along with its updated safari schedule for 2022. World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has designated World Tourism Day 2021 as a day to focus on “Tourism for Inclusive Growth.” For communities in Africa working on the front lines of conservation, wildlife tourism is a critical component of livelihood, and an important driver for sustainable development. Travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic continue to have social and economic impact across the continent in protected areas, but signs of normalcy are slowly returning. AWF Safari Program Manager Carter Smith said: “We have helped many marginalized groups, who have been impacted over the past year and half. The decision was not easy. But after careful deliberation, we decided it was time to embrace this new normal and commence in-person travel. Too much is at stake.” With the international community and African governments focused on preventing biodiversity loss, wildlife tourism is elevated in terms of financing conservation communities, land leases, and resources that protect it. Before the COVID pandemic, tourism accounted for over 4% of Kenya’s GDP directly and over 10% when

accounting for indirect services related to the tourism industry. In both South Africa and Tanzania over 1.3 million jobs are linked to the tourism industry. In Rwanda, wildlife-based tourism is the highest foreign currency generator. AWF Safaris participant Nan Kirlin said: “AWF provided an opportunity to witness first-hand the importance of their work in Africa, specifically, Tanzania. without organizations like AWF, we may not have had the amazing wildlife experience that we enjoyed. Knowing that there are folks dedicated to preservation of this piece of the planet renews my faith that humans can co-exist with the rest of the creatures on the earth.” Carter Smith continued: “AWF Safaris was determined to get our supporters back out on safari because conservation travel is now more critical than ever. In-person tourism will help kickstart economic recovery in African countries and restore important revenue streams that fund efforts to protect wildlife and wild lands and continue to put food on the table for so many. The immensely positive feedback from our guides and camp staff of our partners Thomson and from our travelers was more than enough to show us that this restart was a bug success. At a time when most outfits are still dipping their toes back in the water, AWF operated a successful and safe return to in-person safari in Africa.” In 2022, AWF Safaris has announced safaris in: Kenya, Namibia, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe.
