GURU MANTRA GLOBAL PEACE THROUGH

TOURISM

Tourism is of immense importance to India and its success story will continue undiminished. Tourism has always been appreciated and actively promoted for its economic value. It helps in reducing property and in maintaining quality of life.

s i n c e t i m e immemorial promoted principle o f “ VA S U DA I B A KUTUMBKAM” (whole world is one family).

To u r i s m fo s t e r s communal harmony as visible in India where all the religious festivities o f v a r i o u s communities are c e l e b rate d w i t h equal gusto. India is visited as epicenter o f. H i n d u i s m , Buddhism, Sikhism, Jainism and equally important for Islam, C h r i s t e n , Zoroastrians religion.

Through employment economic prosperity, balance of payments, investment and the sustainable tourism resources are utilized for augmenting the infrastructure and integrating tourism products with international markets which in turn generate international tourist's arrivals for the country and chain continues. Very rarely, we think of its major role as vehicle for “GLOBAL PEACE”. All negative things which are happening globally including our country are due to EGO and “Lack of Appreciation” of each others rich culture, the value of living style and strong Religious Fundamentalism. Religion is one of the most important factor for fights & has become the main culprit. But tourism has brought various cultures nearer to each other. When tourists visit any country they interact with local people, try to understand the way of living which could be totally different from their way of living try ethnic cuisine, they participate

in local festivals and thus all barriers of language, culture, cuisine are over shadowed by the intrinsic warmth of hospitality and friendliness. There is feeling of oneness forgetting religious differences, food habits and the objective of pleasure, leisure, new experience understanding, appreciation and friendship pervades everywhere. Thus tourism has all the ingredients that bring a unity. The lack of unity in humanity and lack of understanding and appreciation can be improved through inter-change of tourists. Globally India,

On Indian soil tourism promotes all these religions festivals for coexistence based on the crux of all these religious – “Service t o p e o p l e HUMANITY and have thus helped better understanding and takeout fake ego. The communities can't feel celebration of a festival by not associating other communities. This “Brotherhood” and “Being in one family” are the real need of the hour. How each community stands together at the time of crisis and pull together happens only though proper understanding propagated through tourism. Many tourists come to India to see this broadness of mind & communal harmony.

By Gour Kanjilal Tourism has helped in creating jobs globally and a major step to eradicate unemployment which be breed corruption, terrorism and drug edicts. These are effectively controlled through tourism related activities. It creates self esteem and a well deserve high standard of living and competitiveness to move forward. They get hardly any time for nefarious activities. In India where unemployment is a big issue, tourism providers over 54 millions jobs at a rough estimate about 10% of total employment in India and help in increase of GDP. Tourism has now brought in global investment through public private partnerships and globally investments are being made without any discrimination. It brings two different work cultures together and gain learning experience, exchanges each others expertise and boost an investments in hospitality industry. It gives an impression of MINI world when tourists see various nationalities are working together for a common cause which is visible in the hospitality industry. Tourism has helped in controlling terrorism to some extent by forming global partnerships as is visible everywhere who all have the threats of terrorism have joined to put up a combined front to combat terrorism. Tourism is rapidly changing the attitude of decision makers and now promoted counted as “the most positive vehicle for global understanding and peace”.

Your plans for 2015 i n c l u d e a n aggressive focus on Indian market. Will the country be perceived growth driver markets for the future? India, is identified as one of Vietnam’s biggest potential markets which shall lead the high growth in the future. In 2015, Vietnam Tourism has run many promotional activities for this market such as organising an Indian FAM trip to Viet Nam, a Bollywood film shooting group, and participating in the GES Trade and Services Exhibition and International Travel Mart PATA in India. The latest Skyscanner poll includes Da Nang City as one of the top low-cost destinations for 2015. What are you doing to facilitate this in terms of infrastructure and facilities? Da Nang is emerging as one of the most attractive destinations in Viet Nam. The city has many policies of facilitating the infrastructure and facilities for tourism development related to investment attraction in Son Tra, Hai Van and Lang Van tourism complex; implementing high-end resort building projects; establishing the cooperation mechanism between the public and the private sector; identifying responsibilities among stakeholders; supporting an enterprises’ campaign of new tourism product development and diversifying tourism accommodation and services to meet all demands. What are your strategies regarding MICE? MICE is one of Viet Nam’s priority tourism products to develop, as mentioned in the Vietnam Tourism Development Plan to 2020, and Vision to 2030, as well as Vietnam Tourism Marketing Strategy to 2020. In order to develop this product, all the big hotels are equipped with infrastructure and facilities for MICE service, especially in

the main cities such as Ha Noi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, while reinforcing marketing activities and cooperation with regional countries in attracting more MICE arrivals to Viet Nam. What are the new tourism projects for Viet Nam? Vietnam has been strengthening investment attraction into tourism development with a variety of projects related to infrastructures, facilities, human resources and sustainable tourism, with co-operation between the public and private sectors. Beside the on-going projects such as M e k o n g S u b - r e g i o n To u r i s m Development Project funded by ADB Bank, the Environmentally and Socially R e s p o n s i b l e To u r i s m C a p a c i t y Development Programme funded by the European Union for the time being, other concerned projects include: A green, smart city in Da Nang; the European Village and Coastal Luxury Resort Sun Villas, Dai Duong Park Complex in Quang Ninh and a building telpher from Sa Pa to Fansipan Peak in Lao Cai. All projects are strictly oriented to sustainability development and community benefits. It is great that Viet Nam recognises the current visa rules are hampering and restrictive and is taking action to redress this. Will more countries be added to the visa exemption list, following the recommendations from tourism officials? The Viet Nam government has perceived the important role of visa policies in attracting more international tourists to Viet Nam. Until now, Viet Nam has implemented the unilateral visa exemption for 13 countries including: Russia, Belarus, Japan, Korea, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Holland, Germany, France, UK, Italy and Spain and has implemented the lateral visa exemption for all ASEAN countries. It has also applied a visa exemption for international tourists to Phu Quoc Island for a period of 30 days. In the future, Viet Nam Tourism shall continue to recommend other countries to the government to be considered in the list of visa exemption countries.
