PAS | Performance Art Studies
PAS | Performance Art Studies is an independent educational project for Performance Art founded in 2008 by German artist and pedagogue BBB Johannes Deimling. Since its foundation PAS has developed into a network of artists, teachers, researchers aiming to promote Performance-based processes and to make them accessible to students, young artists and especially to people not connected to this art form. PAS | Performance Art Studies offers three main sections in education for Performance Art: The PAS | studies, the PAS | project and the PAS | youth studies everywhere in the world and always in cooperation with Performance Art festivals, museums, galleries and art academies, schools. One of the main focuses is the research in didactics and methodologies. Performance Art is a process based artistic practice and the different ways we can approach this art form are marking the way we learn and teach. PAS has developed hundreds of exercises, experiments, tasks, games which enrich and inspire the individual artistic process.
PAS | studies The PAS | studies combine the practical research and the theoretical background in Performance Art. Learning and teaching are in a constant exchange which makes the studies a creative playground. The achieved knowledge and experiences can be applied immediately to the own working structure and designed as sustainable experience from which the participants can grow. Over 37 studies has been realized on different topics on Performance Art in over 20 countries. Over 450 participants have taken part in the studies from more than 100 different countries. In the final presentations of the studies over 600 performances were presented.
PAS | guest teachers The invitation of guest teachers to the PAS | studies is part of the teaching philosophy of PAS. Co-teaching offers an important diverse dialogue in which the participants can find their own position. This shared field of knowledge enhances and widens the perspective of these complex performative processes. PAS has invited international Performance artists like: Andreas Pashias, Francesco Kiais, Alexandra Zierle & Paul Carter, Arti Grabowski, Verena Stenke & Andrea Pagnes, Emily Promise Allison, Pietro Pellini, MarieLuise Lange, Sakiko Yamaoka, Ingolf Keiner, Essi Kausalainen, Antoni Karwowski and many others.

"Raising questions I learned during PAS is something vital for me, it gives air and it helps me developing my work and my thoughts. Answering them is not directly a goal, asking more questions is helpful." "This studies was not “just performance art studies. There was more behind. It was a box of experiences, like a box of candies, that surprises you every day, with sweet and sour."

"To me the PAS | studies have been the door to a world I just sensed a part of it. Like the tip of an iceberg, and now knowing some of the larger dimensions under it: PAS has something like an Olympic spirit: you sweat, you bleed, you train, you fail, you win."
"I discovered PAS-studies by chance on the internet and my desicion to join the studies was completely intuitive and I’m so glad I did it! This two weeks were a gift for me, a roadsigh, a wild discovery, a bunch of inspiration. Also sometimes a challenge."

PAS | youth Since 2009 the youth studies are an integral part of PAS and focuses on the performative and artistic work with teenagers (14 -17 years). The teenagers have the possibility to experiment with this art form and develop in simple steps their own performative art work. Performance Art is here seen as a transformer for the interests and the possibilities of the youth in which they can formulate their own visions and ideas and realize them in a safe setting. Collaborators for the PAS | youth studies are schools, youth theaters and other youth organizations.
