Azza Fahmy debuts the exclusive "Kirdan" collection
Azza Fahmy reimagines traditional Egyptian jewellery to transport you across time and to humble beginnings. Combining elegant Victorian silhouettes with traditional Fallahy jewellery worn by ladies from the countryside and known as the "kirdan", Azza Fahmy introduces three necklaces and two pairs of earrings. This exclusive collection is meticulously handcrafted from 18kt gold and filigree wirework and decorated with precious stones set in the Ottoman technique.
The Kirdan, which is worn around the neck with multi-layered units hung over the chest, became prevalent during the 1930s in Egypt's western desert. Referred to as peasant jewellery, the Kirdan is treasured by Egypt’s Fallahy women. This collection pays homage to rural tradition while modernizing it to produce wearable art in 18kt gold adorned with diamonds, rubies, emeralds, and sapphires.
