“Everyone Is So Angry Lately.”
Chances are, if you haven’t heard this statement, you may have thought it. Change can bring on very decisive actions, but it’s also a very difficult concept to come to terms with. We all cope in different ways; some good and some not so good, but overwhelming change and loss of control can definitely bring about a shift towards anger. Read that word again: “loss” and perhaps we can start to understand that this notable rage is rooted in grief. One of the biggest contributors to the swing to the dark side could again be blamed on the recent pandemic. In those two years plus, all our lives have essentially been lost in a waiting room and none of us will get that time back. Regardless of what side of the vaccination stethoscope you landed on; extreme isolation, mask mandates and the overwhelming division that ensued completely restructured the landscape of our lifestyles. The transformation of missing the certainty we once had was and still is significant on our lives, it continues to challenge our resilience and ability to cope. How can a society not feel the after affects of living through the drastic restructuring of what we all took for granted as ‘normal’? Another factor which stews in angst: the unavoidable the cost of living. I
would take an educated guess that there are not many of us who have not been affected by the increase of…well everything. How many of us have had to relinquish or decrease somewhat a significantly important factor in our lives to adjust to amplified expenses? Perhaps you can’t afford that yearly vacation anymore, or even more dire, you have to cut into a food budget to afford gas to get to work. The drain of the mundane will ever take it’s toll and eventually that loss (there’s that word again) will effect our affect as who we essentially are. Change is how we survive in a spiritual and evolutionary model, but it’s also important for us to check and safeguard that we are working through those feelings and not displacing them in a dark corner of ourselves, hoping to shut them down and deny their existence. That only works for so long and can have detrimental mental and physical repercussions. Get out for a walk and recharge in nature, find a friend or local doula to hold space for you or find a grief circle in your community or online to join to explore avenues to release and allow your sorrow to come through, whatever that means for you.
