Local Parish Group Requests Petition Participants The Catholic Women’s League of Ste-Anne Parish is informing and encouraging parishioners and community members in regard to health care and in particular Home Care. This is a service that the ill and in particular the elderly depend on. There is an online petition to ask the federal government to make Home Care “An Insured Service”. Currently it is “an extended health service”. The petition reads: Whereas: The Canada Health Act recognizes home care as an “extended health service” not an “insured health service” to which the principles of the Act apply; Insured health services are fully funded by government and delivered based on the patient’s need, not their ability to pay; Through its legislative role, the federal government can facilitate na-

tional approaches and standards that must be satisfied by provincial and territorial health care insurance plans. We, the undersigned, Canadian citizens, call upon the Government of Canada to amend the Canada Health Act to include home care as an insured health service. The CWL invites you to go this website to sign the online petition: petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/ Details?Petition=e-673. You may also Google “petition e-673” which will take you to a link if you find this easier. Note that at the bottom of the petition page it shows that so far there are only 1007 signatures (as of Jan 22/17) and only 48 signature are from Manitoba. The government will need to see many more signatures before they consider taking action to make this important service “an
