A Great Day to “Walk for Dog Guides”
On Sunday, May 26th, about 150 people gathered at the Rédemptoriste Park in Ste. Anne to “Walk for Dog Guides”. This is an annual event held across Canada in support of the “Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guide School. Participants gathered monetary pledges and came to the park ready to exercise themselves and their dogs as well as support the cause. Local Dog Guide recipient Shianne and her dog guide Navy attended. According to her mother Annette, Shianne was diagnosed with Hypermobility Syndrome and Hypotonia at an early age. Since Navy has been in her life, the family has noticed a great difference. “We’ve seen Shianne become more independent and she does a lot more on her own now. Navy is there to help in many ways to make it easier in her day-to-day life,” explained Annette.
Shianne and Navy led the walk again this year as about 100 dogs and humans made their way around town to show their support for Dog Guides. This is the second year the Steinbach and Area Lions Club organized the walk in Ste. Anne and they also provided free hot dogs and drinks to everybody who showed up. New this year was a performance by the “Wild Dog Sports Team” from Winnipeg. They are a group of people who rescue dogs from shelters and then train them in agility and acrobatics. The show they put on was very entertaining with quite a few exciting
moments as races were held and tricks performed. It is amazing how fast some of these dogs are and how high, even the smallest of them can jump. Pledges and donations are still coming in so total money raised is not yet available but the hope is that last year’s amount of just over $5,000 will be exceeded this year. Should you wish to support this worthy cause, please go to www.purinawalkfordogguides.com/ findWalkResult.cfm?WalkID=1930 and make a donation. For more information about the Dog Guide School, please visit their web-site at
www.dogguides.com. The Steinbach and Area Lions wish to thank everyone who had a part in making this Dog Walk such a success and they look forward to hosting it again next year.
Art and Vintage Boutique a Hit
Papillion creations is a one-of-a-kind art and vintage Boutique that changes its themes bi-weekly so you can visit all the time and be amazed every time with rare finds. Papillion creations opened its doors on May 8th. “The general response has been great. I am attracting both locals and drive by traffic. I am already getting repeat visits!” said store owner Pierrette Sherwood. One of the customers during her visit said, “We can't find this kind of store in Winnipeg, let alone having the pleasure of having one right here in Ste. Anne!” That was music to Sherwood’s ears and she feels so privileged to offer her art and discoveries in
the first store of its kind in the area. Sherwood invites everyone to come down to the old Co-op beside the hotel and check out "My Secret Garden" until June 9, which features garden stakes, trellises, metal sculptures and obelisks for the garden. And then “Wild Country” from June 12 – June 30, which features antique wheels, bison skulls, horse bits, barrels and rustic art in time for Father’s Day. Sherwood’s art pieces are unique so there is only one of its kind. Don't be disappointed... early bird gets the worm as the saying goes! For more information, you can call the store at (204) 801-5095.
A father was at the beach with his children when his four-year-old son ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore, where a seagull lay dead in the sand. "Daddy, what happened to him?" the son asked. "He died and went to Heaven," the dad replied. The boy thought a moment and then said, "Did God throw him back down?" TEACHER: George Washington not only chopped down his father's cherry tree, but also admitted it. Now, Louis, do you know why his father didn't punish him? LOUIS: Because George still had the ax in his hand.
Quotable Quotes... A dad is someone who wants to catch you before you fall but instead picks you up, brushes you off, and lets you try again.

It was thought that about 60 percent of the items inside the building where saved. But a closer look determined that only about 25 percent can be salvaged. Estimates have damage totals at around $100,000, but the articles themselves are Fire damaged articles removed from building. not insured, so that’s a hole lot of history that went up in smoke. Despite all the losses suffered in the fire, the museum is not going to close. The Town of Ste, Anne is currently negotiating to purchase land for the museum near the Seine River Diversion, and the Community Development Corporation is talking with the RM of Ste Anne to purchase their old municipal office. The cause of the fire is still undetermined at Museum front view of damages this point, but it was accidental. Another fire started but was extinguished soon after on the #12 at the transformers across from Co-op. spectator Jenn Fleming who lives behind where the fire ignited said “it was so scary a wire fell and lit the grass on fire and it was so windy it just spread”.
