New Faces On Council

Richard Pelletier

“...we have our hands full with an all new council, but have a good team, a strong team with different views and experience.” The Town of Ste. Anne is buzzing with the news of an all new elected Mayor and counsellors as the result of the 2014 municipal elections. Residents elected in new mayor, Richard Pelletier with 375 votes, along with four new councillors. Maranda Lanouette with 397 votes, Yvan St. Vincent with 393 votes, Ginette Gagnon with 339 and Wayne Setlack with 284 votes. “This is very exciting, it was a close

competition I only had 22 votes more than Bernie! I was getting nervous but I think I did very well at the forum and that helped with those last few votes,” said Pelletier. Pelletier is looking forward to the next four years. “I have to work hard. We have our hands full with an all new council, but have a good team, a strong team with different views and experience. I think we will work great together and get a lot done.” He would like the residents of Ste. Anne to inform him what they want as he starts working on setting goals. He feels strongly about dealing in facts and working together as a team. The newly elected Council has already hosted their first Organizational Meeting. Despite all being new to their jobs, Pelletier says the meeting went quite well. Council was informed of all of the ongoing projects in the community and the previous council’s vision, and Pelletier notes he is excited to continue to work on the existing projects and some new projects over the next four years. Yvan St. Vincent was selected for the role of Deputy Mayor at the meeting.

Ste. Anne Lions Club Charter Night Celebration It’s official... the Ste. Anne’s Lions have enough members to now be recognized as its own official club! To celebrate this achievement they held a charter night in October to officially announce it. Lions gathered from across Canada and the US to welcome and celebrated the accomplishments and beginning of the Ste. Anne’s Lions Club. The Ste. Anne Lions gathered with over 100 other Lions and guests to enjoy fellowship and rejoice in everything the club has accomplished since Steinbach and Area Lions Club member Chris Barnard envisioned a club for Ste. Anne in October 2013. Under his guidance, the Ste. Anne’s Lions Club has accomplished much for the community including organizing fundraisers for a family affected by cancer, taking local seniors out to see Christmas lights, a family kite festival, supplied hearing assistance to local resident, and collecting mittens and hats for a local daycare. The Lions have an upcoming craft and bake sale with a silent auction and food drive to support local Christmas food hampers this December. The Charter night was held at the Richer Young at Heart Club. Members decorated the hall with coloured peace posters created by local children for a Peace Poster contest the Lions host each year. It encourages young people worldwide to express their visions of peace. During the celebration 11 members where formally inducted as Lions and before the end of the evening, they welcomed two more additional members from the guest who were attending the event.

Pumpkin Loaf

Here is a very moist recipe for Pumpkin Loaf I tried this recipe with some left over pumpkin puree it was very tasty and would be nice with a cup of coffee or tea. 1 cup of white sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 1/2 cups flour 3/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. salt 3/4 cup of cooking oil 1 cup canned pumpkin 2 eggs, beaten 3/4 cup raisins(optional) Mix dry ingredients in bowl and make a hole in the center. Add oil, pumpkin, eggs and raisins. If using raisins or us could use chocolate chipits. Bake 60-80 minutes at 350 F. Line a loaf pan with paper and grease pan and paper or you could just grease and flour pan if you wish. Let cool in pan. Enjoy with a cup of coffee or tea, and share with a friend.
