You Are Invited to a Social in Support of Emma BĂŠdard

Did You Know? The Randy Easter Bunny

Everyone is invited to a Social in support of Emma BĂŠdard, who is a youth in the Town of Ste. Anne who was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) at the age of 12. The event will be held on April 26th at the Ste. Anne Curling Club from 8:00 pm - 1:00 am. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased by contacting Melanie at (204) 422-5254 or (204) 380-2451 as well as Allana at (204) 422-8025.

Explanations for the Easter Bunny all seem to tie into the old AngloSaxon festival of Easter, the spring goddess, whose symbol was, yes, a rabbit. A symbol of fertility, the rabbit became associated with the American celebration of Easter when the Germans who settled Pennsylvania in the 1700s brought from the motherland tales of the "osterhase," the mythical egg-laying bunny kids have grown to love.

Watch for Emergency Vehicles

Quotable Quotes... The first day of Spring is one thing, and the first Spring day is another. The difference between them is sometimes as great as a month.

Every day, police fire and ambulance vehicles respond to urgent calls. Precious time lost getting there could mean the difference between life and death. Every time I see an emergency vehicle I see someone not knowing what to do in that situation, with our crazy spring roads upon us, let’s buff up on our driving hand book. Reacting to an approaching emergency vehicle - WHAT TO DO On a multi-lane highway (max. 100km/h speed limit) Slow down, signal and move to the right. If possible, pull as close as you can to the right side of the roadway and stop when safe to do so. On a two-lane road Signal and move to the right. Pull as close as possible to the right edge of the road, clear of any intersection, and stop. On a one-way street Signal and pull to the right or the left side of the street, clear of any intersection, and stop. At intersections Traffic in an intersection or approaching from all directions must yield to an emergency vehicle until it passes through the intersection. Never block the intersection. Do not make a left turn if an emergency vehicle is approaching from behind. In this situation, the motorist should proceed straight through the intersection, then pull to the right and stop. Take lights and sirens seriously. Pull to the right and stop. It’s the law. Approaching means from behind or towards you. REMEMBER… Stay alert. Avoid distractions. Keep the noise level down in your vehicle. Use your signals to alert other drivers you intend to pull over. Check your rear-view mirrors, look in front and on both sides of your vehicle. Check to make sure the way is clear and signal before merging back into traffic. It is illegal to follow a fire vehicle or ambulance responding to a call, within 150 metres. APPRO A CHING A ST OPPED EMERGENCY APPROA STOPPED VEHICLE WHA T TTO O DO WHAT Highway Traffic Act requires motorists on most highways to slow down to 60 km/h when approaching a police, fire or ambulance, tow trucks, other roadside assistance vehicle stopped with its red lights flashing in the same direction of travel, either in a lane or on the shoulder of the road. If the road has two or more lanes the motorist must move over into another lane, if it can be done safely. On smaller roadways, where speed limits are less than 79 kilometres an hour, drivers have to slow down to 40 km/h.
