Villa Youville Bottle Symposium
On May 16 the Villa Youville hosted a Bottle Symposium where residents and family where invited to decorate and fill a bottle representing the story of their life. The bottles where then displayed for everyone to enjoy. Some bottles represented different seasons of life, being filled with ingredients for baking in the fall; terrariums representing the new life and growth in the spring; some had a “message in a bottle theme” - all materials used where recyclable leaving no trail. The villa started organising symposiums for the residents to get involved in 2005. Every year they establish a new theme focusing on different ways to reflect on life.

A Little Laugh... There was this car that was driving very slowly down the highway. A state trooper pulled it over. “What did I do wrong, officer?” the driver asked. “You were going 26 MPH on a major highway, there is a law against that. You must go at least 50 MPH.” “But when I got onto the highway, the sign said 26!” “That is because this is Interstate 26! The 26 isn’t the speed limit!” The driver leaned back into her car seat and the cop saw another woman sitting beside her, she looked as pale as a ghost. “What happened to her?’ the officer asked. “I don’t know, but she has been that way ever since we got off the interstate 160.”

The Social was sold out weeks before the social date and was more successful than anyone had hoped. Guests lined up early before the doors opened and waited as long as an hour to enter the building, all hoping to have a chance at winning some big ticket prizes such as a 2013 Polaris Ranger 500, a $6,000 travel voucher including $2,000 cash, metal for the exterior of a 24 x 24 building, a 1984 Chevrolet Corvette Coupe, a 1.71 t.c.w diamond wedding set... just to mention a few. The money will be used equally to support Equipment, Research & Clinical Trials and Patient & Family Support Services at the St. Boniface Hospital.
