The Lions are Coming to Ste. Anne!

Lions are the world’s largest service club organization with over 46,000 clubs and 1.35 million members in 207 different countries. Whenever a Lions club is formed, communities get better and problems get smaller. That’s because we help where help is needed – in our community and around the world. Our members do whatever is needed to help their area. Everywhere we work we make friends; with children who need eyeglasses, with seniors who don’t have enough to eat, with people we may never meet. Lions have a dynamic history. Founded in 1917, we are best known for fighting blindness – it’s part of our history as well as our work today. But: we also perform volunteer work for many different kinds of community projects – including caring for the environment, feeding the hungry and aiding seniors and the disabled. Lions are everyone. Men and women, any religion, any race, any colour, any ethnic background. As long as you are of good character and want to help, you can. Lions are active. Our motto is “We

Serve” and we do that by being a part of a global service network, doing whatever is necessary to help where and when needed. Lions have been working in Ste.

Anne. For the past 2 years, the Lions have organized and run the “Purina Walk for Dog Guides” in the local park. This event raises money to provide assistance dogs to blind and physically/medically disabled people at no charge to the recipient. In those 2 years, over $10,000 has been raised for this

cause and many local businesses and residents have participated. We have also provided much needed mobility equipment to a number of local residents at no cost to them. We are still working with the schools every year with our “Project Pride” which gives every grade 1 student a Canadian flag and a certificate just before Canada Day. Lions want to do more locally so we will be forming a new club in Ste. Anne in September. Details are being finalized as to where and when, so watch for notices of information meetings. Come out and have all of your questions about Lions answered. We would love to have you join us in helping our community become a better place to live and grow. For more information about the details of the new club, please contact: Lion Chris Barnard at (204) 422-8259. Early one morning, a mother went in to wake up her son. 'Wake up, son. It's time to go to school.' 'But why, Mom? I don't want to go.' 'Give me two reasons why you don't want to go.' 'Well, the kids hate me for one, and the teachers hate me, too!' 'Oh, that's no reason not to go to school. Come on now and get ready.' 'Give me two reasons why I should go to school.' 'Well, for one, you're 52 years old. And for another, you're the math teacher!'
