Remembrance Day In Canada

Murder Mystery The Ste. Anne Cultural Committee would like to invite everyone to a Murder Mystery evening on November 16th & 17th, 2012 at 7:30 pm at the Club Jovial. For more information, please call (204) 422-9599.

Remembrance Day is a public holiday and federal statutory holiday, as well as a statutory holiday in all three territories and in eight of the ten provinces (Ontario and Quebec being the exceptions). From 1921 to 1930, the Armistice Day Act provided that Thanksgiving would be observed on Armistice Day, which was fixed by statute on the Monday of the week in which November 11 fell. In 1931, the federal parliament adopted an act to

amend the Armistice Day Act, providing that the day should be observed on November 11 and that the day should be known as "Remembrance Day". The federal department of Veterans Affairs Canada states that the date is of "remembrance for the men and women who have served, and continue to serve our country during times of war, conflict and peace"; specifically, the First and Second World Wars, the Korean War, and all conflicts since then in which

members of the Canadian Forces have participated. The department runs a program called Canada Remembers with the mission of helping young and new Canadians, most of whom have never known war, "come to understand and appreciate what those who have served Canada in times of war, armed conflict and peace stand for and what they have sacrificed for their country."

Remembrance Day Services will be held on November 10, 2012 at 10:30 am at The Seine River Banquet Hall. Please be there before that time.

It’s Movember During November each year, Movember is responsible for the sproutingof moustaches on thousands of men’s faces, in Canada and around the world. With their “Mo’s”, these men raise vital funds and awareness for men's health, specifically prostate cancer and male mental health initiatives. On Movember 1st, guys register at Movember.com with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men, known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery. Supported by the women in their lives, Mo Sistas, Movember Mo Bros raise funds by seeking out sponsorship for their Mo-growing efforts. Mo Bros effectively become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November. Through their actions and words, they raise awareness by prompting private and public conversation around the often-ignored issue of men’s health. At the end of the month, Mo Bros and Mo Sistas celebrate their gallantry and valor by either throwing their own Movember party or attending one of the infamous Gala Partés held around the world by Movember, for Movember. For more information on Movember or to register go to Movember.com Why does your nose run and your feet smell?

Historic Sites of Manitoba: Piney Road Bridge (Finnigan Road, Ste. Anne)

A wooden bridge had been constructed in Ste. Anne in the 1870s, but it was not until 1921 that the present permanent structure was completed. It is a fine example of the engineer’s trade, an elegant expression of strength and grace carried out in formed concrete. The bridge is a municipally-designated historic site still stands today.

This is guaranteed to make anyone who has potty trained a kid laugh! My 3-year-old son had a lot of problems with potty training, and I was on him constantly. One day, we stopped at Taco Bell for a quick lunch in between errands. It was very busy, with a full dining room. While enjoying my taco, I smelled something funny, so of course I checked my 7-monthold daughter, and she was clean. Then I realized that Mike had not asked to go potty in a while, so I asked him and he said, "No." I kept thinking, "Oh Lord, that child has had an accident and I didn't have any extra clothes with me." Then I said, "Mike, are you sure you did not have an accident?" "No," he insisted. I just knew that he must have, because the smell was getting worse. Soooo, I asked one more time, "Mike, did you have an accident?" Mike jumped up, yanked down his pants, bent over and spread his cheeks and yelled . . . "SEE MOM, IT'S JUST FARTS!!!" While 20 people nearly choked to death on their tacos, he calmly pulled up his pants and sat down to eat his food as if nothing happened. I was mortified! Some kind elderly people made me feel a lot better when they came over and thanked me for the best laugh they had ever had! Another gentleman stopped us in the parking lot as we were leaving, bent over to my son and said, "Don't worry son, my wife accuses me of the same thing all the time. I just never had the nerve to make the point like you did."
