Patricia Rovzar Gallery is pleased to announce Journey, a selection of paint ings by Melinda Hannigan. A reception for the artist will be held First Thursday, February 5th, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in conjunction with Seattle’s Art Walk. The exhibition will continue through March 1st.
It has been over two years since Melinda Hannigan has had a solo exhibition in Seattle. Journey reflects on both the journey of her chosen subject, seafar ing vessels, as well as her personal journey navigating through some of life’s most extreme challenges. Rather than paint a ship from stem to stern, Hannigan focuses in “close-up” on the markings made by each port they visit, each dock they touch, and each tug that works them. The realism of her markings is con vincing, but the focus of the composition makes them abstracted, and allows the viewer to see the beauty of age and use. What are left are inscriptions of these journeys on the ship’s hull, like scars on a person’s skin. This is to remind us that we will always carry the past with us while we move onward in this amazing journey we call life.
