“TheHerbariaseriesbeganasadeeplypersonalexplorationoftimeandmemoryduringthe pandemic,whentherhythmofdailylifefeltsuspended,yetmomentsquietlycontinuedtopass. Inanefforttocapturethesefleetingmoments,Ibegancollectingandpressingflowersfrommy mother’sgardenandleavesandherbsfrommyown—agestureofpreservationinthefaceof uncertainty.Astheworldoutsideslowed,thesedelicatecollectionsofflattenedbloomsbecame markersoftimeandsymbolsofresilience.
ThesepressedflowerseventuallymadetheirwayintomyRorschachseries,whereIexplorehow individualperceptionisshapedbypersonalexperiences.Justastheflowersandleavesappear perfectatfirstglance,underclosescrutinytheirimperfectionsrevealthemselves—anallegory forthehumancondition.Similarly,theRorschachformsinviteustoseeourselvesreflectedin theirsymmetryandasymmetry,remindingusofourshared,yetunique,perceptions.
Intheearlyworksofthisseries,Iuseddriedandpressedflowersmountedtopaintingson paper.However,acknowledgingtheephemeralnatureoforganicmaterial,Iinsteadchosetouse theharvestedfloraasstencilsandimprintsfortherestofthebodyofwork.Theinteractionof nature’sformswiththemediumbecameawaytohonortheimperfectbeautyoftheprocess.
TheHerbariacollectionalsoincludesfloralgarlandpaintings,whichareinspiredbytheofferings leftatgravesites.Thoughwiltedandworn,thesegarlandscarryanintentionofcareand reverence,echoingthemesofremembranceandmementomori.Theyarequietmeditationson loss,memory,andthepassageoftime.
Duringdifficulttimes,Iturntonature.InthemidstofchaosIfindpeaceinthenaturalworld.This exhibitionservesasanofferingtoviewers—asafespacewheretheycanfindtheirowncomfort.”
