JD HANSEN
Working in bronze, jd Hansen’s sculptural works are informed by both human and animal form. On a visceral level, Hansen explores the juxtaposition of vulnerability and strength. The elongated figures & subtle body language presented in each work also surveys the dynamic complexities of human psychology, non-verbal communication and theories of quantum physics.
Hansen covers the gamut of human existence by contrasting vulnerability and strength through her bold and graceful forms. Undercurrents of darkness are visible beneath the aesthetically approachable exteriors; the smooth texture giving way to the melted roughness; the dignified posture giving way to a mournful turn; the warm bronze hue giving way to the cold, resistant tension of bronze. Hansen is deeply inspired by musicians and songwriters, prodding her to push the work to another level, coaxing the darkness out of the light, and exposing a private thought betrayed by body language.
Hansen has gained considerable recognition over the past few years with numerous articles in national publications, as well as international prestige through several commissioned installations of large-scale sculptures at five-star resorts in Taiwan and Italy. Hansen received her BFA from the esteemed Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. She has received numerous awards and her sculptures can be found in many private and corporate collections, including the permanent collection of Seven Bridges Museum in Greenwich, CT.
