“Homage” is a collection of new paintings that pays tribute to and is inspired by a select group of artists from the past who have influenced and impacted LoCicero’s career and his self-development as an artist. LoCicero’s love for ephemera and collage is merged with personal iconography to give a contemporary reinterp retation of the vernacular in the vast array of arts that includes painting, literature and music. The paintings in this exhibi tion merge all these loves into unique and interesting narratives.

LoCicero received his BFA at Ohio State University and took his MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. He has shown in galleries all across the US and his works can be found in many distinguished public and private collections.

This piece pays tribute to the artist Edward Hopper and to his painting of the same title. LoCicero combined his signature depiction of the fedora with collaged iconography from Hopper’s paintings found in the bands of the hats. The hats float on a “stage” background of gold leaf to mimic the old walls of cinemas or hotels of the 40’s and 50’s. This painting also is relevant during our current times of isolation, uncertainty and alienation; thus, the falling of the hats.

Homage to Winslow Homer’s painting entitled “Fog Warning” The waves in this painting were created by collage ephemera with historical references to Homer’s work. The tone of this painting resonates the current atmosphere & uncertain times we are experiencing, but it is also a hopeful take on the resilience of man indicated by the presence of the life preserver and a sailboat on the horizon.

L e t t ers To Mo net, 40 x 42 in., oil with col l a ge on ca nva s, $ 5 , 20 0 . 0 0

A nod to Claude Monet’s infamous & iconic paintings of water lilies, each of the Lilypad’s is made of vintage handwritten love letters. The water in the background is formed from collaged ephemera of Impressionist paintings and the center of the painting is grounded with an image of the beautiful depiction of a nude in recline.

B o at D o cked, 40 x 46 in., oil with colla ge on ca nva s , $ 5 , 6 0 0 . 0 0

This painting is inspired by the author and playwright Sacha Guitry who wrote Quatre de Occupations and the play Ceux de Chez Nous (Those of Our Land) which captured the lives of artists Monet, Rodin and the Impressionists The boat in the painting is anchored, secure and tied to the dock made of vintage fabric from LoCicero’s travels to Vietnam.

S helt er, 2 8 x 5 2 in., oil with collage on canva s, $ 4 , 5 0 0 . 0 0

Paintings with the theme of the circus have been in the historical vernacular of art for centuries and this is LoCicero’s response to that motif. The circus tent is replaced with an awning as a metaphor for protection. The center of the awning depicts a bucolic pastoral scene implying peacefulness and calm. The fabric and vintage doilies were found during LoCicero’s travels to Cambodia.
