Orthocouralogy or The Scientific Method of Haircutting "The Journal of Orthocouralogy and Associated Disciplines" (JO-AD) will be a publication introducing a new discipline: the formal, academic study of the art, method, technique of haircutting, designated by the term "orthocouralogy." This journal aims towards the dissemination of research findings which are scientifically based, in order to improve both professional and teaching performance in the field. Such scientifically designed methodology had previously been regarded as undefinable by many or eagerly awaited by others. Overdue, then, since the early years of the 20th century, "JO-AD" should cause a significant turnaround. It is intended for all professionals, salon owners, manufacturers, and enterprises with interests in this flourishing field. STRATEGY involves two main stages of dissemination. The first involves publication of existing haircutting theories and commonly held technical beliefs, along with challenges to those assumptions. In the second stage, unlimited publication of articles dealing with non-technical aspects, such as political or legal ones, would serve as a platform or forum for investigators. BREAKTHROUGH adapts mathematics to the system of haircutting. Art is translated into science in several logical and explicit chapters. A new philosophy for instructing and also practicing is put into place. Some major institutions in the beauty industry, as well as professors, doctors, librarians, and trained stylists have already been receptive. "The creation of orthocouralogy is revolutionary and should change the way haircutting is learned...This program boosts the level of education way up." MANDATE constitutes the need to review and reform and re-analyze the validity of all previously held standards. Orthocouralogy and the journal, "JO-AD," invite a thorough, serious investigation of professional regulations on all levels, including cosmetic licensing. This will prove to be essential for all existing and potential students. Such reform is imperative and inevitable.

Ortho-Technology

Help to decrease cognitive overload “Numerous empirical studies have demonstrated that traditional instruction can and should be redesigned according to principles of cognitive load theory, and that this re-design results in better learning.” - Wolfgang Schnots & Christian Kürchner

Definition Orthocouralogical-technology (or ortho-technology) Ortho-technology is the technology that applies to the domain of orthocouralogy. It is the use and knowledge of tools, techniques, crafts, systems, and methods involved in giving, teaching, or expressing a haircut logically.

Ortho-technological tools (tools, models, and software development) "Ortho-technological tools" refers to the array of technological tools used to research, resolve, visualize, and teach orthocouralogical content. The creation of ortho-technology has contributed to a new educational environment to meet the educational needs and demands of a growing industry. The use of ortho-technological educational tools, tested over the past eight years, has been proven effective in facilitating haircutting instruction.

Ortho-Technology

Usage of ortho-technological tools extended to customers (a brief anecdotal report) Some tools and devices are currently being used even to educate clients about haircutting designs, and to plan and explain new or corrective haircuts. Anecdotal evidence shows a high degree of customer appreciation and satisfaction, with reactions ranging from surprise at the novel approach, to enjoyment of the technical explanations, to interest in the development and usage of the tools. From a psychological point of view, customers who have been concerned or anxious feel more comfortable, and therefore more secure, after learning about ortho-technological tools. It seems obvious, even when clients do not volunteer this or express it directly, that the level of trust for all of those included in this experience is greater, rendering the working psychological platform and environment much more pleasant. Customers' positive reactions seem to indicate that ortho-technological tools could also be useful and practical in hair salons to provide a different level of service. One interesting outcome of the utilization of these tools is the way clients are sensing and perceiving the services they are paying for. Indeed, this type of professional service is very different from showing pictures of hairstyles; the use of HSEDs is more technical, and much more useful for giving truthful, precise, and realistic technical information to clients and students. Three-dimensional images are obviously helpful in visualizing technical messages. However, through other studies, it became evident that using threedimensional models (NOT HAIR) for theoretical and practical haircutting instruction could be extremely effective. Interestingly, models originally designed to research and support the theory of logical haircutting (orthocouralogy) became useful tools for teaching students, and also proved useful at a different level for customers.

Ortho-Technology

In many industries, models are created as an alternate means of conveying and understanding information, or to test systems. Other types of models are designed to make elusive concepts concrete and visible, or to show what is not readily apparent to the human eye. Relative to the field of study, models can be representations of much smaller or larger objects or devices, or show simplified mechanical systems. At their best, models can be visually and technically self-explanatory at a single glance. The same is true in the domain of orthocouralogy. The orthocouralogical program includes its own set of essential devices to promote the efficient teaching and learning of haircutting at a high technical level. Different types of models, designed to research and study logical and applicable haircutting systems and procedures, were and still are part of the program's development. Model technology development has allowed and supported the development of a logical haircutting theory. What is new in the domain of haircutting education is the introduction and regular use of these models to serve the important purpose of proper instruction and learning. Models will be present in almost every technical lesson covered in the orthocouralogical program. One important aim of this educational theory is to formalize the use of solid 3-D models in the process of learning and teaching haircutting.

Ortho-Engineering Orthocouralogical engineering (or ortho-engineering) Orthocouralogical engineering is the application of science in the domain of orthocouralogy. It involves cognitive, social, and design engineering. It also involves the application of scientific notation and practical knowledge in order to design and build devices, systems, materials, and procedures, to learn how to teach, record, modify, and repeat creative haircutting designs. Ortho-engineering extends to the research and development of the tools used to give haircuts and to style haircut designs, and includes not only the entire platform impacting haircutting performance, but the well-being of the person receiving and giving the haircut.

ORTHOCOURALOGY Universal Code of Haircutting Accelerates, simplifies the communication process.

ORTHOCOURALOGY Patrick F. Garelle

Universal Code of Haircutting U.C.H !

For example, but without limitation, the code can be a unique language for defin-

ing a standardized procedure for a predetermined haircut or communicating a haircut called the Universal Code of Haircutting (“UCH”). This code can be used to communicate, translate, record, and transmit any kind of haircut in a short time and accurately. The use of the code is a scientific approach to conceive and engineer haircuts. The code gives the complete infrastructure and ability to “code” or define any haircut quickly, accurately, easily, and with precision without using lengthy sentences, drawing, and/or pictures. The code is a language in itself and a tool to communicate in a worldwide common coded language designed mainly for current and future professional hair beauticians to define a haircut, although it can also be used for hair styling, hair extensions, and any other suitable applications. The meaning and translation of the code is presented herein in the English language, but it could be translated in any other language as well, without changing the code itself. The UCH can include a formula (coded formula) that describes the exact shape of a haircut and the way it is made. The code is practical, meaningful, and purposeful and involves, and is in part based on, checkpoints on the face, head, neck, and body, as described herein, which are defined by landmarks or parts of the body.

ORTHOCOURALOGY Patrick F. Garelle

Written formula The expression of a formula describing a haircut can include signs, symbols, letters, words and/or numbers. For example, the signs, symbols, letters, words and/ or numbers can be selected under the influence of the medium being treated including describing the shape and structure of a haircut. ! !

A code is used to define the standardized procedure for the predetermined

haircut. A written formula can define the standardized procedure for the predetermined haircut. For example, but without limitation, the code and/or the written formula can include symbols, letters, words, and numbers. For example, symbols, letters, words or numbers can define each of the sections of hair and each of the geographic checkpoints. !

A photograph of a haircut will only give a hair beautician a rough idea of that

haircut’s shape and does not provide the beautician with the engineering infrastructure necessary to create the haircut. By using the coded formula in accordance with the invention, the hair beautician will have a reliable description of the haircut. The code design is complex enough to be able to record not only the exact shape of a haircut but also the exact procedure for creating the haircut.
