Another great course to take for Christmas is the PADI Open Water Diver Course, which is a 3-4 day program that trains you to be able to dive independently. The Open Water Diver course is a great way to start out. If you don’t have a few days available, you could get certified as a PADI scuba diver in just 2 days. New Boat Nearly Ready Construction on Pattaya Dive Centre’s new boat, designed by Austhai Marine, is almost complete, which will be great for all their divers and students. The boat will be the fastest, newest and safest dive boat in Pattaya, 16-meteres in length with 4-metre beams made from fiberglass. This will be the only boat in the city to be built to ISO standards and will be able to carry 25 passengers at 22 knots, making it the fastest dive boat in the area.

SPECIAL VISIT TO EAST PATTAYA

ast Pattaya is routinely known as “Pattaya Darkside”, and is a large area the opposite side of Sukhumvit Road where many of the region’s expats live. It might not be the heart of tourism, but it is an interesting place to explore, day or night, especially if you have been to Pattaya on holiday numerous times and look for something different.

What is there to do? Some might say there is more to do in East Pattaya, especially for families, than in the city. Many of the region’s most popular tourist attractions are located here such as Million Year Stone Park & Crocodile Farm, Pattaya Elephant Village, Siam Country Club Golf Club, Pattaya Sheep Farm, the Bira International Racing Circuit and much more. The countryside is simply beautiful and worth the drive alone.

Why East Pattaya is called the Darkside? Although the ‘darkside’ name might conjure up images of dungeons and S&M, the real reason for the name is much simpler unfortunately! At one time in the not-toodistant past, East Pattaya was left in the dark, literally! There were no street lights at all in the region, so after nightfall, it was darker than my sense of humor. That has all changed these days, but this is where the name was derived, so put your gimp mask away or you might look a bit out of place!

Which restaurants would you recommend? East Pattaya really is a great place if you like to visit restaurants. There are eateries right across East Pattaya serving cuisine styles from the four corners of the globe. Some of the most popular restaurants in the area include the stunning fine-dining atmosphere at Chez Yvette and family friendly Murphys Pub, excellent value for money restaurants such as the Casual Bar with its British-style cuisine at fantastic prices on Soi Khao Noi, and cool restaurants at Lake Mabprachan that include the famous Khun Jon’s and the stunning new Indian Roots Restaurant. There is something for everyone in East Pattaya in terms of dining out.

Chez Yvette What are the best areas to visit in East Pattaya? East Pattaya is located the opposite side of Sukhumvit Road (past he train lines) and covers areas such as Nongprue, Nong Plalai, Lake Mabprachan, Soi Khao Noi and Khaotalo. The closest areas to downtown Pattaya are Soi Khao Naio and Khaotalo, both of which are just a 10-minute drive from the city and home to dozens of international style restaurants and bar establishments where prices are much more affordable than in the heart of the city. Lake Mabprachan is one of the nicest areas to visit with lots of bars and restaurants located aside a large reservoir offering serene lake-views and one of the most stylish atmospheres on the outskirts of the city.

How do I get there? If you have rented a motorbike or car, this is the best way to explore East Pattaya, or alternatively, you can hire a taxi. The entrances for Soi Khaotalo and Khao Noi are across the train tracks on the opposite side of Sukhumvit Road in between Pattaya Tai and Pattaya Klang. Further towards Pattaya Nua on the opposite side of Sukhumvit, you will find Siam Country Club Road, easily noticed by its tall red archway entrance, which leads all the way to Lake Mabprachan, although it will take a 20-minute drive from there. Although it’s just a short drive from the city, there is so much to see and do that it could easily take a full-day.

The issuance of a building permit provides building officials with the means to enforce the requirements of the Building Control Act and other applicable standards to ensure strict compliance. Under Thai law, it is necessary to obtain authorization from the local administration for any construction, alteration, and demolition of buildings. Building permits are required to ensure that building safety standards and zoning requirements are satisfied for the general safety of the public. Zoning is a system of developing a city or district plan in which various geographic areas (zones) are restricted to certain uses and development, such as residential, industrial, commercial, agricultural, parks, schools and other purposes. To avoid problems in the future, it is necessary to check the zoning regulations of the specific area as several zoning restrictions may apply. They may include some or all of the following depending on the district: • Height and width of the structure • Building lot size • Distance from the shore and to another property • The use of the structure (residential, commercial, industrial) • Height of land above sea level • Type and color of roof A building permit is required when: 1. Although I lived in Phuket for many years and we had Bangla Road in Patong, which is supposed to be similar to Walking Street, in all honesty it’s like comparing a plastic cup of grape juice with a $27,000 bottle of 1865 Chateau Lafite! It’s incomparable on so many levels. Bangla Road in Phuket will certainly provide you with a great nights’ entertainment, but Walking Street is an entirely different beast. People of all ages, color, creed and cultures happily co-exist on Walking Street, which makes you think that NATO should use this as a blueprint to bring about world peace, or at least Israel and Palestine perhaps.
