ABOUT

13 Niebla Street - Sevilla - Los Remedios - 41011 - Spain

Los Remedios takes its name from a Carmelite convent of the same name found in the district. In the 1960s a large-scale urbanization took place, and the new neighbourhood. It is overwhelmingly residential in character, and when it was built it attracted many upper-middle class residents. Concept The client Single man in his 60s, owner of the entire building, is preparing to reform the ground floor for him and his two daughters, who will visit the house in a timely manner. Previously it was a commercial space used as a lawyer’s office and later as a nurser y. After finishing the last business, it is proposed to adapt it to housing, which implies a rethinking of the entire space and change of facilities enough to supply the needs of a home.

Needs to cover Two bedrooms : · Master room with bathroom and own closet · Shared room for his daughters Two bathrooms : · General use and private bathroom Patio as main point of the house Inclusion of natural light to all rooms Inclusion of vegetation in space

Esthetic Being a building from the 60s, it has been tried to keep the vanguard of the time, both in furniture and finishes, but being softened with a refined Mediterranean influence.

0 3

Concept

Basing on the fact of a 60’s style building, has been wanted to maintain the essence of the initial design with a contribution of Mediterranean style, which emphasizes the design in the light and natural environment.

This cor ner is chosen as it can be seen from the main connecting areas, the living room and the master room. The sinuosity of the design is explained by the circulation and access to the laundr y. The Ibizan ceiling is installed for greater pr ivacy for the master room.

This is the main point of visual attention in the whole house .

Living Room The room is focused on the relaxation of the habitant with a point of heat by the gas fireplace and a connection almost direct with the outside space , natur al light and vegetation. The mater ials used tr y to lighten the visual weight intensifying the yard presence , as it is a small space . Tr ansparent white cur tains, clear white sofa, white car pet and glass table , which offer s utility and does not reduce visual space . The lamp has a fair ly strong point of weight in the design. Raffia has appeared in Spanish design for many year s, so it evokes past times and gives a r ustic point. In tur n, the visual effect it makes with the light has reference with the plucking of the wallpaper of the wall.

TECHNICS

All about the Kitchen

The kitchen has been designed based on a small space in the most functional way possible . It is a ver y aesthetic space that tr ies not to look like a wor king and food space , as it is a totally exposed space between office and living room. Ever ything is designed to be hidden, as is the fr idge built into the same kitchen fur niture and the hood hidden in the counter top. All opaque , smooth and with masculine touches such as dar k color s and presence of leather in handles.

NIEBLA 13

The style is maintained in the sixties with the bicolor tile and the dur alex cr ystal lamp, mater ial ver y used for dinnerware from that time .

ABOUT

El Ruedo Restaurant - Sevilla - El Arenal - 41001 - Spain

El Arenal is a neighbourhood in the historical centre of Seville, the Casco Antiguo. It lies on the east bank of the Guadalquivir river to the west of the old Jewish Quar ter. Its name comes from the sandy nature that this east bank of the river once used to have. El Arenal has a history characterised by its former position as por t of Seville, until river silting forced the city to relocate the por t to the southern edge of the city in the 17th century.

Concept The client This project is focused on the renovation of El Ruedo in Calle Harinas 20, which previously was also a restaurant but with a ‘modernized’ bullfighting atmosphere, which closed the range of clients, bullfighting enthusiasts and foreigners.

Needs to cover 1. Updating the aesthetics of the restaurant to expand the range of clients. The objective is to expand the range but keep the old clients, and that is why the bullfighting aesthetic is maintained but in a ver y soft way and with the addition of the Mexican emblem. 2. Improvement of the facade to accentuate it in the course of the street. Initially, the colors of the facade in ocher and burgundy were muted and ver y common. It was not appreciated that there was a restaurant until you passed ahead. The intention is to change the color of the facade, within the colors imposed by the Seville City Council for the historic center of the city. Added of exterior vegetation so that visually, there was something irregular in the street that attracts attention. Change from window to window, elimination of vinyl and new carpentr y for the window, which allows the opening of the same and more visivilidad of what there is in the interior. 3. Brighten the interior. The previous requirement is directly related to this objective. The luminosity of the interior was something lacking due to the vinyls of the showcase and the dark color (gray and burgundy) that was inside, accompanied by dark wood furniture. There was not a cozy or inviting space to be a consumer of it. 4. Renovation of toilets. The toilets were a point of immediate renewal. The deterioration of the toilets and the antiquity of the finishes did not accompany the image of a pleasant space to use.

NEW

LAYOUT

Having an irregular plant, the right angles are omitted in this space, which creates that the bottom wall is angled. The new bar has been arranged in a way that follows the same angle of this wall, to gain space in the room. One of the problems that this presented was an interior access ramp whose slope did not comply with the regulations, having a mandatory registration chest in slope. It has been solved by the implementation of two ramps divided with a plateau with a slope of 10%, thus solving the access to the general registry chest. The resulting step is less than 55 cm, so there is no guardrail required against this drop. In order to create the waiting area without being overwhelmed, the glass carpentry of the entrance has been eliminated, gaining space. In turn, the plasterboard and wood structure of this space has been eliminated for the same purpose. The column has been left bare, without the previous coating of cylindrical wood that it had before, leaving a visual obstacle much smaller than the previous one. The bathrooms have been completely renovated changing even the location of some elements. A separate toilet for the workers and a small cleaning room have been created. gaining luminosity in the space and the option of opening it to give a warmer atmosphere to the interior.

This same access will also be used as an emergency exit in

Special Events It is the area of attention point. It is attached to the waiting area. A room is created that r uns along the longest continuous wall of the space , covered with a patter ned wallpaper. It is the area with the most visual weight due to the wallpaper and a drop in the ceiling, which is decided to accentuate an intimate atmosphere among the diner s. This is the space that would most call attention, for the diver sity of fur niture and the style of Amazons that this tr ansmits, even being the wallpaper with architectur al motif.

Branding The menu or the menu is the means by which the restaur ant presents its proposal to the client, is an emblem for the restaur ant and breaks the communication bar r ier between both. Most of the elements in the restaur ants revolve around the menu, the type of decor ation, the presentation of the dishes, the unifor m of the employees, the name of the restaur ant, the type of customer, etc . It is one of the most significant elements in the restaur ant and we must give it the impor tance it has. But before enter ing into it, I would like to show you the conclusions of a cur ious study that analyzes how customer s read restaur ant menus, a fundamental factor when it comes to cor rect content architecture and good design. It is made by Sybil Yang and later contr asted by the US Restaur ant Association, and what they did was tr ack the movement of the eyes to find out how customer s read the menus in restaur ants. It seems that the conclusions are quite clear, we read the letter s like the books, that is, from top to bottom and from left to r ight.

Special illustr ations were designed for the restaur ant, 50 cm wide and 1.10 high. Designed to suppor t them on the floor or hang them on walls. Updated aesthetics of the Seville bullr ing. Appreciation of the architectur al style .

The target of tenants the costumer wants to rent to is medium family consisted by 4 or 5 members. The previous owner was an Italian family who built the house for themselves and with a design to their needs back in the 80’s. The house had been taken care of but no renovations since construction.
