Here are some other points, fantastically made that achieved special marks.

Question 19 – Attitudes of religious people to the death penalty Jessica Bullock A view that Christians that should be “against” the death penalty. God gives life, only he should take it away. They may refer to what Jesus said in the garden of gethsemane when he spoke to Peter. He said that those who “live by the sword die by the sword”. They also refer to when Jesus defended Mary Magdalene from being stoned to death. He told the accusers that “Those without sin should cast the first stone”.

Daniel Wiltshire A view that Christians support the death penalty, alongside Muslims. Albert Pierre point was a Christian professional hangman. He supported capital punishment because he believed that the death penalty absolved someone from their sins so they had atoned for their crime; their sins were wiped away. Islam also supports the death penalty under two conditions; Islam may be under attack or someone has killed somebody.

Question 20 – All prisoners should serve their full sentence – Do you agree? Alicia Palmer I agree that for certain crimes prisoners SHOULD serve their full sentence. For example, child offenders and serial murderers should serve their full sentence because society must be protected. “An eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth” suggests that it is the only way for retribution to be served. An example of a prisoner who should have served their full sentence are the Jamie Bugler killers. One of them had reformed, but one has recommitted which suggests that he should have stayed inside prison. Some people actually think that prison doesn’t work because 70% reoffend, so maybe a different solution needs to be found. Sometimes people who serve too long a sentence can become institutionalised and no good to society at all.

Daniel Wiltshire Whether or not criminals should serve their full sentence depends. One of the aims of prison is to rehabilitate. Keeping people inside who have reformed defeats a purpose and could do more harm than good. If the state says that they do not have to serve a full sentence then then religious people should accept this. They are commanded by Paul to “obey the state authorities; the state has been put there by God.
