May 2017 You'll Be Obsessed With These 25 Expert-Approved Green Beauty Products May 6, 2017 Long gone are the days when you had to compromise your health and safety values in the name of quality beauty products. Is Green Juice the Secret to Better Skin? May 01, 2017

If the 2010s could be defined by a drink, it would be green juice. Once consumed primarily by health nuts and fitness fanatics, juices — specifically, freshly-pressed fruit and vegetable blends —are now nearly as ubiquitous as coffee. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, green juice is often touted as a healthy alternative to the sodas and sugary drinks of the early aughts, with proponents claiming “ juicing” can do everything from clearing the skin to easing digestion. So, it should come as no surprise that the beauty world has jumped on the juice bandwagon, too. Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray, $49

Though everything in Juice Beauty’s extensive collection consists of naturally-derived, USDA-certified organic ingredients, the brand’s Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray stands head and shoulders above the rest. The gentle formula features apple, grapefruit and lemon extracts to exfoliate; cucumber and aloe extracts to soothe irritation; and a trio of plant oils to hydrate and nourish thirsty skin.

How to Remove Your M akeup W ithout Soap or W ater M AY 1, 2017

With the way makeup is evolving and improving year after year, we're hopeful that its ease of application will continue to make strides. And in a far-off fantasy world that'll probably only happen when aliens walk the Earth, we'd love makeup that takes itself off (that's not too much to ask, right?). As much as we love putting makeup on, having to remove it every night isn't nearly as fun. To make this nightly chore a little more interesting, we've compiled nine different ways to remove makeup without using makeup remover. When our cleansers don't do the job of removing every inch of makeup, we'll sometimes turn to an oil-free remover or a makeup wipe to rid any residue, but what if those methods break you out? (*Raises hand.*) In that case, turning to a more practical option or something a bit more natural may be the answer. Keep scrolling to see our favorite makeup-remover alternatives.

Cleansing O ils

Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Cleansing Oil ($32) Cleansing oils are trending for all the right reasons. They remove makeup and impurities while balancing out your skin's natural oils, which means fewer breakouts. (Beauty editors happen to love these, too.)

7 Beauty Products That Work Wonders for AcneProne Skin May 11, 2017

Wearing makeup and having acne are linked in an endlessly frustrating cycle. You wear heavy makeup to cover your blemishes, but the makeup just clogs your pores and leads to worse flare-ups, making you wear even more. And so the cycle begins again. Fortunately, there are a handful of beauty products designed specifically to cover your skin and make you look gorgeous while simultaneously treating your acne. If you have problematic skin, it’s wise to invest in the following acne-clearing products to ensure your makeup is working for you, and not against you.

End Blackheads With These Genius Skin Tricks MAY 1, 2017

You've seen the YouTube tutorials (google "Blackhead Removal SHOCKING Video" — or don’t), the DIY facial-scrub recipes, and yes, even the little black dots all over your nose in your 10x magnifying mirror. Blackheads are exceedingly common. But, why are they so irksome? "I think it's partly because they feel rough to the surface," says Doris J. Day, MD, a New York City-based dermatologist and author of 100 Questions & Answers About Acne. "There's the idea that blackheads are stuck in your skin — and if you remove them, there's a sense of gratification and relief that they're gone. Blackheads just seem so manageable in that way: You just get them out, and then you're done." That perception couldn't be further from the truth. Getting rid of blackheads — for good — is a process that requires the right products (hello, salicylic acid), a regular skin-care regimen, and sometimes even the help of pros. Ahead, we spoke to Dr. Day about her most effective tricks. Exfoliate Gently — & Whichever Way You Like Exfoliating regularly is key to keeping blackheads in check, since it scrubs away dead skin cells that could clog pores. "It's fine to alternate between manual and chemical exfoliants,” says Dr. Day. “The main thing is, don't over-scrub — you don't want to strip your skin. See what your skin likes and what you like. There are so many good choices." Try a gentle face scrub (we like Garnier Clean + Blackhead Eliminating Scrub) or an at-home glycolic-acid peel (Juice Beauty Green Apple Blemish Clearing Peel does the job and also helps eliminate acne scars) once or twice a week — any more than that is overkill — for an extra boost of exfoliation. Juice Beauty Green Apple Blemish Clearing Peel, $39, available at Juice Beauty.

Get Glowing Skin From The Inside Out: A Beauty Insider Shares How Holistic health coach Lily Kunin’s daily beauty rituals for your most confident self. May 3, 2017 I’m a firm believer in beauty from the inside out, meaning what I put in my body is just as important—if not more important—than what I put on my skin. In fact, even after years of topical treatments, my pesky, stubborn acne did not begin to clear until I started to treat it with what I ate. For me that meant removing inflammatory foods like dairy and healing my gut with bone broth and probiotics, as well as using gentle, non-irritating natural beauty products. It takes a consistent, steady practice, but incorporating these principles into my daily routine makes me feel fully nourished.

Evening Beauty Routine I live in New York City so I always like to shower at the end of the day before crawling into bed. I steam my shower up with a few drops of calming essential oils like eucalyptus and lavender, and give myself a nice scrub with Éclair Naturals Himalayan Salt Scrub. I love to soak in the bath a few days each week to release tense muscles or soak up some magnesium, which is especially good you have cramps coming on. I use the same products on my face as I do in the morning. I double cleanse my face, spritz it with rose mist, and gently wipe it away with a cotton pad (just to make sure all smog and makeup are gone) I follow up with a generous amount of my face serum. A couple days a week I’ll do a face mask—I love the Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel or May Lindstrom’s Honey Mud. I also make an easy face mask that I share in my cookbook with raw honey, turmeric, tea tree, and a squeeze of lemon. All three leave my skin silky smooth. I get into bed and fall asleep right away, usually for at least 8 hours, and then wake up to do it all again.

7 TIPS FOR HELPING NEW MOMS FEEL PUT TOGETHER These beauty tricks are as fast and easy as they come. May 9, 2017 There’s likely nothing in the world more life-changing than becoming a mother. From what we’re told, every aspect of your world turns upside down seemingly overnight. And while being a new mom is undoubtedly magical, there’s not a lot of time left to treat yourself or make yourself feel fun. With that in mind, we turned to bonafide beauty expert Jenny Patinkin, who actually has children (unlike Coveteur’s editors) of her own and whose book, Lazy Perfection, was just released, to get some tips for new moms on feeling pulled together when you don’t even have time to take a shower.

Look for products that multitask: “A natural balm product like Herbivore Botanicals Coco Rose isn’t just for rehydrating dry lips—it also can be used as a subtle gloss/highlight on your cheeks and eyelids, to smooth your brows into place (because what new mom has time to go and get them done?), to soften rough cuticles, and to tame flyaway hairs. Plus, this ‘clean’ formulation means that there’s no issue smooching the baby while you have it on. “A multi-purpose cream blush like Juice Beauty Phyto Pigments brings a little life and color to the cheeks, and you can also use it on your eyelids and lips to get a polished and chic monochromatic look—all blended easily with your fingers. My favorite shade that works well on everyone is Seashell.”

7 Natural Sunscreens Your Skin (and the Environment) Will Love MA Y 2, 2017

As proponents of skin health, we’ll never get tired of repeating this mantra: Never leave home without sunscreen. Adequate sun protection is an essential part of life, but unfortunately, there’s a catch: some sunscreens you find on beauty aisles are loaded with toxic chemicals that may be harmful not only to our bodies, but also to the environment. The good news? Natural sunscreens are generally deemed gentler on your skin and the environment and just as effective by some experts. But what is natural sunscreen? Natural, mineral or physical sunscreens take advantage of the natural protective properties of zinc oxide and titanium dioxide against sun damage. Also known as physical blockers, these minerals create a barrier on our skin and shield it from UVA and UVB rays. Think millions of microscopic hats and umbrellas! Unlike chemical sunscreens, which take 30 minutes to be absorbed and take effect, natural sunscreens become effective as soon as you apply them. Still unconvinced that natural is the way to go? Take it from Dermstore’s Natural and Spa categories buyer Ashley Van Dyke. “People are beginning to understand the negative short- and long-term effects harsh, synthetic chemicals have on their bodies. Those who have already made the switch to natural skin care and beauty products are loving the results!” To make sure you’re getting optimum protection from the sun, the American Academy of Dermatology recommends choosing sunscreens that offer broad spectrum coverage with SPF 30 or higher. For best results, apply an ounce (about a palmful) of sunscreen to cover all exposed areas and reapply every two hours or after swimming, sweating or wiping off. Ready to make the switch to safer sun protection? Check out our top picks for natural sunscreens!

May 2017 Serums You Should Add to Your Skin-Care Routine, Stat May 2, 2017

Perhaps it the newness of the category (I never saw my mom applying serums!), or the exhaustive number of options it contains, but serums can be intimidating. Do you really need them? When and how often should you apply them? Well, the answers are yes, after your toner and before your moisturizer and at least once a day. Of course, you might be wary of these little guys, as many tend to believe skin serums clog pores, which causes unwanted breakouts. On the contrary, serums actually help banish and prevent a surprise zit, and most are water-based, which means the product is instantly absorbed by skin without leftover residue. So here are your best serum options, broken down by your specific skin-care desires. Brides, it's time to get glowing.

Clear Skin Salicylic acid, willow bark, organic fruit acids, and organic aloe vera work together in Juice Beauty Blemish Clearing Serum to clear clogged pores, reduce breakouts and soothe the skin, so you can have clear skin on the big day! (Blemish clearing serum, $29, Juice Beauty)

A NYC Editor Cleans Up Her Makeup Bag May 15, 2017 “I am SO into this,” says Laurel Pantin as we spill several large bags’ worth of clean beauty items out onto her coffee table at her airy, minimalist West Village apartment. The Coveteur editorial director is literally jumping around her living room with excitement. Her exuberance might surprise someone who’s never met her: Pictures capture her stunning, graceful beauty, but not the lanky goofiness that makes an in-person Laurel even more irresistible. Laurel’s interest in non-toxic and clean is ongoing: “I was lucky enough to meet the late Horst Rechelbacher [founder of both Intelligent Nutrients and Aveda] long ago at Teen Vogue and he really woke me up about beauty products.” Working in fashion— the aforementioned Teen Vogue, Glamour, Lucky, Snapchat, to name a few—makes sticking to an all-clean routine difficult, however: “You manage to acquire a lot of shiny new things,” she laughs. “It’s hard to resist a new beauty product—still, most of the stuff I rely on is pretty green, with not a ton of ingredients on the label. I love Tammy Fender, RMS, and Tela Organics.” Everything on the table is, of course, as green as goop—it’s also shiny and new in that fantastic way that only beauty items can be; the first thing that catches Laurel’s eye is a dusky-dark lip/cheek stain from Balmyard Beauty. “This is kind of the perfect shade,” she says, dabbing it on with her finger. Indeed it is—a deep sort of black-plum that manages to be both dramatic and gorgeously translucent. goop’s just-out Goop 02 Shiso fragrance is what she unwraps next. “I’m really specific about perfume,” she says. “I don’t like what everybody else likes—wait!” she’s spritzing it on her wrists. “I love this—it’s smoky and turpentine-y-amazing. I will wear this, for sure.” The fact that it’s free of the endocrine disruptors and other toxins in many conventional fragrances is icing on the cake. The discoveries continue, with Laurel showing us what she already loves, and explaining what she most wants to switch out:

Recently stoking our curiosity is Paltrow's in-flight health and wellness routine, which was chronicled by Well+Good. Unsurprisingly, she doesn't let cabin pressure or stuffy air get to her; read up on the actress's travel essentials below: A face mask: "Juice Beauty makes an algae face mask, and if I'm on a really long flight I'll put it on while I'm watching a movie," she originally told Elle. "I just sit there looking a little weird on the plane." A bottle of colloid silver: "I spray [it] under my tongue and on the airplane seat because they say it wards off germs," she explains. A stash of vitamin C: Paltrow always takes a bunch of vitamin C with her when she travels, presumably to strengthen her immune system and rejuvenate her skin. A few water bottles: Paltrow doesn't mess around when it comes to hydration; the health aficionado buys a few bottles of water once she gets to her gate and sips them throughout her flight.

"As any dermatologist, aesthetician, or smart-ass friend who’s never had a zit will tell you, regular exfoliation is essential to good skin health. I skip the scrubs and go straight to gentle chemical peels — they sound scary, but they’re actually better suited for my easily-irritated skin (and maybe yours, too?) than grainy, physical exfoliants. This one, which brightens and sloughs away dead cells with vitamin C and ascorbic acid, is a marvel: You just spritz it on dry skin, use your hands or a soft washcloth to massage it in, and rinse. So easy." — Rachel Krause, beauty writer Juice Beauty Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray, $49, available at Ulta Beauty.

11 Next-Level Mineral Sunscreens for Flawless Sun Protection These physical sunscreens don't just protect -- they actually make your skin look better MAY 23, 2017 Gone are the days when mineral sunscreens were thick, chalky, and left your face covered in a (very unappealing) white residue. The latest formulations are sheer, weightless and barely detectable, not to mention ideal for layering under makeup. But before we get to some of our faves, a quick science lesson. Sunscreens fall into one of two camps: those that use chemical blockers (common ones include avobenzone, oxybenzone and homosalate) and those that use physical blockers (minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide) -- and some formulas combine the two. The difference? "Simply put, the chemicals penetrate into the skin and absorb UV rays, while minerals sit on top of the skin and deflect them," explains Peter Lio, MD, clinical assistant professor of dermatology at Northwestern University. Which one you choose ultimately boils down to a matter of personal preference, though mineral sunscreens do have advantages. Mineral formulas are better tolerated if you have sensitive skin, says Lio, since chemical sunscreens are more likely to cause irritation, and they deliver immediate protection. (There's still some debate over how quickly chemical formulas take effect.) Some studies have also shown that physical blockers may not only deflect UVA and UVB rays, but skin-damaging infrared radiation, too (also known as IR, which we feel as heat). And while you can't necessarily equate mineral with natural -- mineral formulas do contain other ingredients, after all -- if you're looking to green your beauty routine, mineral is the way to go. TBH, the most important thing is that you're wearing sunscreen every single day, so find one that you love and stick with it. But if you're going to make it mineral, be sure to try any -- or all -- of these 11 standouts.

Juice Beauty SPF 30 Sport Sunscreen, $16 Whether it's a game of beach volleyball or a long run, loading up on sunscreen before any kind of outdoor workout is crucial. This creamy choice is water-resistant for 80 minutes, so you can get in a full sweat or swim sesh without having to worry about re-applying, and works nicely on both face and body.

A step up from putting cucum ber slices on your eyes and honey on your face—though that's precisely the philosophy—farm -to-face com panies are taking this "green chem istry" to new lengths, com bining nature and science to ensure the very best properties of each ingredient are m ade available to custom ers. The 9 Best Natural Sunscreens For Face And Body May 17, 2017 If you're faithfully wearing sunscreen every day, you're already on the path to skin greatness and are avoiding the most common sunscreen mistake: not wearing enough of it. But here's another SPF error too many of us discover only after a lotion has irritated our skin: the best natural sunscreens are better than those chemical sunscreens for a variety reasons — especially for those of us with sensitive skin. Let's start with the obvious one. Chemical-laden SPF contain oxybenzone, homosalate, and octinoxate — just three chemicals that can be absorbed into the skin and cause allergic reactions. Traces of these chemicals can even be detected in breast milk (so yeah, the trouble runs deep) and, to boot, have been shown to "erode" the actual benefits of sunscreen. Sounds like a lot of cons without many pros, doesn't it? Natural sunscreens, or mineral sunscreens, are free of potentially harmful chemicals and use titanium dioxide and zinc oxide as their key UV ray-repelling ingredients. They work immediately (though, you'll always have to re-apply after two or three hours to be safe), boast broad-spectrum protection, and are far more gentle and less irritating on skin. And, unlike with chemical sunscreens, there's very little skin penetration when you use a mineral SPF. If you're ready to make the switch to a mineral formula, these nine natural sunscreens that are considered among the best.

A Natural Tinted Moisturizer With Nourishing Grape Juice

Juice Beauty SPF 30 Tinted Mineral Moisturizer, $29, Amazon If you prefer a natural SPF that knows how to multitask, this 4-in-1 tinted sunscreen is a zinc-based broad-spectrum formula that works overtime as a moisturizer and anti-aging lotion and provides a sheer, glowing hint of color, to boot. A blend of grape, aloe, pomegranate, and coconut, sunflower, and jojoba oils work together to hydrate and tone your complexion, while broad spectrum SPF 30 protects your skin from harmful rays. Choose among three adaptable shades: ivory, sand, or tan.

5 Beauty Secrets I Learned from Gwyneth Paltrow The actress, beauty icon, and creative director of makeup at Juice Beauty spills about in-flight treatments and what she's doing to her water. MAY 18, 2017

Gwyneth Paltrow has been a fixture in the Hollywood beauty scene for almost 20 years, a number that's legitimately hard to believe. And while a chameleon-like ability to change is required of an actress, it's not a necessity in regards to their personal life, hence a Paltrow who's made a much-copied, laid-back California vibe her beauty signature. She's also made it easy for her aesthetic devotees to get a bit of her magic too, by working with Juice Beauty as its Creative Director, Makeup. Here, she shares beauty secrets that are just as Gwyneth as you'd hope for (spoiler: never underestimate the power of a good steam).

"I'm quite a tomboy at heart. On a normal day I don't wear any makeup, but if I have a dinner in the evening I'll put on some mascara and a little cheek color. My hair is very thick and wavy, so when it's damp and drying I take it in sections and twist it to encourage the wave, but not the volume." Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments $24; juicebeauty.com

"Juice Beauty makes an algae face mask, and if I'm on a really long flight I'll put it on while I'm watching a movie. It's really brilliant, made with organic ingredients, and very hydrating. I just sit there looking a little weird on the plane. I also always travel with a bottle of colloid silver which I spray under my tongue and on the airplane seat because they say it wards off germs. I always take a bunch of vitamin C, and I buy multiple bottles of water before I get on the plane." Juice Beauty Instant Eye Lift Algae Mask, $10; juicebeauty.com

If a Product Is "Natural," Is It Safe For Pregnant Women? We Uncover the Truth! May 19, 2017 Once I got a positive pregnancy test, I quickly discovered that in addition to brainstorming baby names, I'd have to memorize a complicated list of dos and don'ts. I took stock of what needed to change. Obviously, no more booze. But there were also subtle changes to make. I had to start asking waiters if the cheese on the menu was pasteurized and began googling mercury levels in different types of fish at the grocery store. Thankfully, my doctor gave me a handy "welcome to pregnancy" book, which listed out what types of foods, exercise, and medicines were safe, but one thing was missing: cosmetics. There was no direction on safe makeup and other personal care products. I had heard from friends who already had kids that some ingredients could be harmful to the baby. So I decided to make this my mom-to-be homework assignment. Here's what I learned. "We should avoid risky ingredients at all stages of our lives; however, pregnancy may be a period in which women should be particularly careful," expert Nneka Leiba told me. She is the director of healthy living science for the Environmental Working Group. Exposure to toxic chemicals before conception and during pregnancy can have significant and long-lasting effects on reproductive health, according to both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American Society for Reproductive Medicine. Problems can include infertility, low birth weight, and preterm birth — the last two are relevant to expecting mothers. And if you're thinking of getting pregnant soon, it's still a good idea to start cleaning up your beauty routine. Where to start? Any ingredient considered an "endocrine disruptor" should be off limits. These can interfere with our body's normal hormone functions. (EWG puts out a Dirty Dozen list of 12 endocrine disruptors to avoid.) Note that it's common for endocrine disruptors like phthalates to be categorized under "fragrance" or "parfum" on labels, so fragrance-free is the way to go. In addition, you should avoid antiaging products with vitamin A, since too much could potentially lead to birth defects. Skin-lightning products are also no good, because they can interfere with the development of a fetus's skin. And it's important to talk to you ob-gyn about any prescription acne or skincare items you used before you got pregnant, as the FDA classifies some prescription as unsafe for a growing fetus. This can be a lot to keep track of. So here's how these no-go chemicals often show up on ingredient labels: Avoid • Retinyl palmitate and Retinol (vitamin A) • Phthalates • Parabens • Dibutyl phthalate • Triclosan • BP-3 • Bisphenol A (BPA) • BHA and BHT • Dioxin • Oxybenzone • Ethanolamines (MEA/DEA/TEA) • Diazolidinyl urea • Phenylmercuric salts, acetate, nitrate • Hydroquinone or glutathione • Fragrance/parfum One thing I noticed in my quest to clean up my vanity: many safe-looking products contain "natural fragrance." I asked Leiba if these were indeed safe. She explained that there is no legal definition for "natural." And even if a product is 100 percent natural, that does not mean it's safe. Think about it: poison ivy is technically natural. But would you rub it on your skin? "There are many natural elements that are known to negatively affect our health," she said. And Leiba believes there's reason to be weary of natural fragrance specifically. She explained: "A company that used 'natural fragrance' on its
