ideas...
about their overflow of particular crops, in hopes to make a money free trade with other users. This allows users to socialize with their local community, not let any of their crops go to waste, and get a new batch of something they aren’t used to having.
1.
People create too much food waste.
Users can make a profile where they have a rating, a virtual garden, and access to other local growers. If they post an “advertisement” about their crop, they can negotiate with other users a certain trade value. The meeting place is mutual like Craigslist, and they do a free trade.
That adds up to 70+ million tons, making it the third largest component by weight in landfills.
DESIGN OBJECTIVES To create a user friendly experience for growers to

communicate and negotiate with others. This app needs to clearly show what sort of crops each user can offer with unique visuals. There needs to be a search filters and a map display. This way the experience can be catered to your likes and put you in touch with users that live close to you.
Gardening can lead to mental clarity and moderate intensity activity can reduce the risk of health issues.
THEME A friendly sharing experience for like-minded individuals.
3.
Those who garden often have too many yields. They end up letting it go to waste, or they can get sick of consuming the same products over and over.
PRICE RANGE The app is free, as so are the trades that are made.

understanding about the reasoning for my survey,
I reached out through social media with the following:
I gave an introduction with some background information. This is important so that they stay on track and have a sense of what kind of response I am looking for.
“If you or someone you know likes to garden or simply collect fruit from your own tree, I would like to ask some questions. I am creating an app based on this topic and would really appreciate user input.
“
Hi _______________ ! Thanks for agreeing to participate in a research survey I put together. Like I mentioned, I am doing this because I am designing an App for people who harvest things from their own garden. I am looking for a range of people who say have one simple orange tree, to a whole back yard filled with a variety of fruits and vegetables.
”
I intend to first send out a few simple questions to see if you might more specifically be the exact kind of person I am targeting. If you fit into that category, I will follow up with some more direct questions. Again, I GREATLY appreciate any contribution you make to my research Who knows, maybe some day the app will become real and you can say you were a part of it!

Once I got a number of people that were interested in participating in the survey, I sent a list of general questions. 1.

How accurate are your predictions when it comes to estimating how much of certain item you think will grow properly?
A.
Around here it’s a crapshoot how much we will harvest. It depends so much on planting times, spacing, bugs, predators, weather, variety. Some things are always easy, like zucchini for example. And citrus. And eggplant. But that’s about all I get confident about.
Q.
What do you do if you grow too many of a certain thing and you can’t keep up with eating it?
A.
We feed it to our animals. We have a dairy cow, goats, pigs and chickens and they all benefit from our poor sales. And then we sell them. Or eat them.
Do you like to socialize with the other
We socialize with other growers. We talk about what works for us, what bugs are ruining our lives, how annoying rude customers are, how much we like the other customers who support our farm every week when they could just go to Walmart, how tired we are, how much our backs hurt, what markets are good, what restaurants are willing to deal with small farmer quantity... we are there for hours so we mostly just shoot the shit. And then some people start drinking.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES The app needs to follow a number of design principles that important to the creators and the users. These principles could be understood as the motto for the app.
Less Fuss, More Function The app should be extremely easy to use with intuitive features. The user should be able to accomplish their goal in just a few steps. They won’t be distracted by all of the fancy added features that don’t actually help accomplish the main goal.
Simple Impact It takes major issues that deal with food waste, and helps eliminate them before it can get worse. It’s a positive experience, when users can easily making a big difference.
Gets you from A to B A simplified virtual tool for your social reality. The is really just a way to help connect user with like minded individuals. They do all the work, now they want to share it with others.
In order to capture all of the design principles into one name, they should be straight forward, clear, and concise.

PAPER PROTOTYPE
OVERALL A paper prototype was essential for creating a clear flow for the app. By cutting up the sections into separate pieces, it made it easier to move around. After reviewing the paper prototype with different participants, certain changes were made in order to make more sense. Certain suggestions for changes were implemented into the prototype. Some of those changes include: - Changing the order of the Bio and Profile picture upload in the “Create Account” page so that it matches the order on the” Profile” page. - Including an overall label for each page in that particular section. - Add “A, B, C” to local yields listing to show the association. Could be color coated. - For the “Upcoming Meets” page, have a popup showing that it has been added to your calendar. - Changing the name of “Inbox” to “Notification” and “Notifications” to “Updates”. - Minimizing the amount of repetitiveness.
