Environmental Initiatives
Note: You may not be able to register a death if the Coroner is involved until they have issued the relevant certificates. Please do not be alarmed if you are contacted by the Coroner’s office, they are there to help you.
How does a funeral impact the environment? We have recognised that regardless of whether a funeral is a burial or a cremation, they have a long term impact on the environment. For a cremation committal the impact comes from a variety of different factors including the actual cremation process, the use of fossil fuels to heat the cremators, the burning of wood and plastic used in coffin manufacturing, harmful chemicals and man-made materials in clothing. With a burial committal there can sometimes be a larger impact depending on what type of material is used for the coffin, what the fixtures are made of, whether there has been chemicals used during the preparation of the body plus many more factors that can affect the natural environment near the grave.
Our Team
Our partnership with eTrees
Matthew and Laura Jackson are the founders and directors of Jackson Family Funeral Directors Ltd. Prior to the company’s formation in early 2018, Matthew had worked as a funeral director for both national and independent funeral directors.
Our aim is not to just offset the carbon footprint of a funeral but tip the balance enough to ensure every funeral we are trusted to care for has a positive impact. So how is this possible? Simply by planting a tree…. Please visit our website www.jacksonfamilyfunerals.com for more information about planting trees.
Understanding how different sized companies focused on different methods of working highlighted to both Matthew and Laura that the ethos of Jackson Family Funeral Directors should be to fulfil the wishes of a family, first and foremost. Together, they set about making small amendments to create a personal feel, rather than focus on traditional practices. Matthew and Laura started every funeral arrangement with a blank piece of paper and built every aspect individually to create truly personal services.
First Steps Registering a death One of the first steps in making funeral arrangements is to register the death with the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriage. It is better for us to discuss this with you as it can seem quite confusing. However we have put together the following information to help you.
Since 2018 the company has increased in size but more importantly increased its standards, options, creativity and passion. With each new member of the team comes new ideas, new ways to improve and ultimately a better service for those we serve.
Contacting the registrar It is easier for you to register a death within the county that the death occurred. There are ways to register at a registrar’s office close to you by ‘registering by declaration’. If you are concerned with any aspect of registration, our team are here to help.
Useful Information Who can register a death? A qualified informant must register a death within five days of it happening. An appointment is necessary. The people qualified to register a death are: 1. Relative of the deceased present at death. 2. Relative of the deceased in attendance during the last illness. 3. Relative of the deceased residing or being in the same sub district. 4. A person present at death. The registrar will require the informant to give them a medical certificate of death, the deceased’s medical card and details concerning the deceased – a birth certificate and marriage certificate are both helpful but not essential.
Why We Do This Matthew and Laura deliver a service that is second-tonone, honest and ethical. Jackson Family Funeral Directors aim to make a difference and provide a service that people deserve. We promise honest advice, personal choice and transparent costs at all times.
Terms of Business We pride ourselves on being upfront and honest with you, as such it is important to us that there is no small print, just a clear and easy to understand agreement between yourselves and us. Our families are asked to sign these terms when they receive a confirmation of funeral arrangements and estimate of costs. Terms of Business are very important for both you as the family and us as a

business, it helps both of us understand clearly what the expectations and agreements are for both parties.

intentioned people may say to you: “Time is a great healer.” Sometimes, however, it can seem that life is more difficult as the weeks and months go by.
Deluxe Plan
We know that no-one can understand exactly what your loss feels like to you although we do understand that it’s sometimes easier to talk to someone outside of your friends and family circles about grief and the impact of bereavement of your life – and this is why we offer the
This is our most popular funeral plan. All aspects of the Funeral Director’s costs are covered, as well as a generous allowance towards third party fees. There is a better choice of coffin, where the procession starts from and a funeral limousine for your loved ones on the way to the service.

Unnatural or sudden death In this case it is better to consult with your funeral director as soon as possible for guidance, as the coroner will probably be involved and extra time may be needed before the funeral can take place.
I Want to Plan My Own Funeral At Jackson Family Funeral Directors we like to take you through your wishes step by step, as we would if we are arranging a funeral for the present. This involves a meeting with one of our funeral directors who will advise you on the funeral plan itself, the funeral provider we work with, the financial securities of your funeral plan money and, of course, discussing your wishes. We like to provide a verbal estimate at the time and post a written estimate to you, this way you can take your time to decide whether you wish to make changes, keep the documents as a record of wishes or purchase the funeral plan.
Funeral Pre-Payment Plans (Capital Life) Funeral Plans are fast becoming a popular way for people to plan and finance their funeral and achieve peace of mind that when the time comes matters could be easier for their loved ones both emotionally and financially. Not only does a Funeral Plan allow you to outline in detail exactly how you would like your funeral to be but it also allows you to lock in the cost of the Funeral Director’s services at today’s prices. As a member of The Funeral Directors Alliance, Jackson Family Funeral Directors offer a range of funeral plans each suited for different individual wishes and requirements, your plans can also be personalised to include personal touches to ensure that your funeral is a true representation of you.
The Premium Plan is our most comprehensive classic funeral plan. It covers everything in the Signature and Deluxe plans, including a generous allowance towards third party fees. It has an additional limousine for your loved ones to attend the ceremony and a superior coffin in addition, so all your friends and family can say farewell to you in style.
Free Bereavement Support Most people expect to be very upset or distressed when someone close to them has died. What takes many people by surprise is how strong the emotions can be, how they can change very quickly and how long they last. People around you may seem to think you should be ‘back to normal’ after a few weeks or months. You might appear to be your usual self to other people but you know that, on the inside, you’re not even sure what normal is anymore. Everyone grieves in a way that is unique to them and their relationship with the person who has died. Well-
CMA Standardised Pricelist In September 2021 the funeral profession began the process of regulation from the Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) to ensure all funeral directors have a transparent and visible pricing structure. The Standardised Pricelist is a set structure of services which allows families to directly compare funeral directors and make an informed choice. Please do remember this is only a cost comparison and not a comparison of the service you receive. The best way to compare this side of funeral directors we suggest reading reviews from previous families.
Jackson Family’s Standardised Prices Please visit our website www.jacksonfamilyfunerals.com for more information on standardised prices.
Third Party Fees When discussing Third Parties we actually mean, any company we must contract the services of to complete a funeral. The main Third Parties are; the crematorium, cemetery, florist, printers. Below are the prices of our local services and also their websites should you wish to speak to them directly.
Our Plans Simple Plan This is our most affordable plan, and for those people who do not wish for an elaborate funeral or a service of any kind, but want to make matters simple and reduce the financial burden for those left behind. We will take care of all the necessary arrangements, ensuring the cremation goes smoothly and with minimum stress for the family.
Signature Plan The Signature Plan is our most affordable yet complete plan. It includes for the services provided for by the Funeral Director and a generous allowance towards third party

Full Services and Costs As of 17th September 2021 all funeral directors are required to show a set service pricelist, known as the CMA’s Standardised Pricelist. This is only for a certain type of service offered to allow families to make a clear and informed decision when comparing funeral companies. We do offer a full range of services beyond this set pricelist. Please note that when comparing companies you should be mindful that the Standardised Pricelist only shows a financial comparison and not the quality of advice, support and service you will receive. To compare these important areas please do look at company reviews such as funeral guide or google.

The Day of the Funeral The way in which a funeral takes place has changed over the past decade. The traditional format of a church service followed by a private burial or cremation has become less popular. Rather than giving 2 or 3 packages options we have developed endless ways for you to build the elements of the day in the way you wish. If you have a specific request in mind and can not see it listed, just ask us. Our funeral directors focus on fulfilling your requests and specialise in making the impossible, possible. A Traditional Style Service £650 Our hearse provides the most traditional and formal feel to the beginning of the funeral. This would be recommended if you, your family and other attendees will wish to watch your loved one arrive and be carried by four bearers into the venue.
and the aim to remove the formalities, we will place your loved one ready in the service prior to your arrival. We use a small team of a funeral director and 2 bearers. Horse drawn hearse £1200 A horse drawn hearse is the most traditional style of funeral transport. We work with a local carriage master who can provide black or white horses and carriage. The hearse will be accompanied by our full funeral team and our hearsette as an advanced safety vehicle. Limousines £250 Our matching limousine provides up to 7 family members or friends to the funeral service. We work with a local carriage master should you wish for more than one. Additional funeral team members £150 In some circumstances we may be required to use additional funeral team members. This cost is for a pair of professional bearers.
Informal Style Service £400 Our hearsette provides a more informal and modern feel to the funeral service. Due to the nature of the transport
