We can supply a range of horse drawn hearses, carriages and with teams of Two, Four or Six black or grey horses. The driver grooms and attendants are all dressed in traditional morning attire.
We are able to guide you through a non-religious service, using either a humanist or independent celebrant. We offer specially written individual services with family participation if desired, a truly personal funeral service.
In recent times, we have recognised the need to provide a special low cost funeral for clients who require only the basic cremation or burial, with the minimum of ceremony.

We can arrange the internment of cremated remains in your local churchyard or an existing grave or strewing of remains at sea or a favourite location.
We offer all types of mourning stationary, orders of service, hymn sheets and acknowledgement cards through our printing service.
We are able to supply all types of memorials and carry out all the formalities with cemetery and church authorities on your behalf. We also undertake the restoration of old memorials and the edition of new inscriptions to existing memorials.

About Marc Stephens Marc began his career at one of Derby’s largest funeral directors starting off as a driver bearer then worked his way to becoming an operational Funeral Director. CORONER
A DEATH HAS OCCURRED Never be afraid that it’s too soon to contact the funeral Director. We are here to guide and help you from your first call. If your loved one has passed away in hospital, a doctor will confirm death. The Bereavement department will help and guide you with the next steps and provide you with the address of your Registers of Births and Deaths. If the death was not expected or unnatural than the doctor may decide to refer the death to the coroner and no certificate will be issued at that time.
The Majority of deaths notified to the coroner are completely natural but the cause of death is not certain. The coroner is an independent judicial officer, who has an office of staff working for them to carry out investigations for the coroners, these are the staff that will be dealing with you. If the cause of death is found to be natural and there are no other circumstances requiring an inquest, the coroner will provide documentation allowing the death to be registered. If the death was not due to natural cause or further test are needed to ascertain the cause of death, the coroner will open an inquest.
PAYING FOR THE FUNERAL
If your loved one passed away in a nursing home, their staff will inform you of what to do next. If your loved one passed away at home then the police and ambulance should be called.
Marc prides himself in ensuring every funeral we arrange is bespoke and tailored to suit your specific needs and budget for your family.
When the police arrive, they will summon a doctor on your behalf, who may refer the death to the coroner’s office.
The person who arranges the funeral becomes our client and is responsible for paying the final bill. It is therefore important to know where the money for the funeral will come from.
REGISTERING A DEATH
We have a duty of care to the bereaved and we don’t want you to feel pressured into paying for a funeral you can’t afford. It’s important not to arrange a funeral that you will struggle to pay for later.
The person who registers the death is formally known as the informant this would normally be a next of kin. When you telephone the registers office to make an appointment, you will be asked some question to ensure you are the right person to register the death. You will be advised about the question you will be asked to answer and to take some documents to the appointment. When the registrar as all the information that they need and this has been entered in the register, they will give you a death certificate.
DEPARTMENT FOR WORK AND PENSIONS If the person who has passed away has not left enough money to cover the cost of a funeral and you receive any benefits you may be entitled to receive help from the DWP. If you are a close relative of the person passed away but not on benefits you might be able to claim ‘Funeral Expenses Payment.’ You must apply as soon as possible. Contact your local DWP services.

DIRECT CREMATION FUNERAL Our Direct Cremation Package is suitable for families who do not wish to attend or hold a funeral service and instead hold a non-attendance cremation with the option of the ashes being returned or scattered.
