Walking in the Promise of God Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.” - Isaiah 54:17 KJV

From the Desk of the Presiding Bishop
Bishop Theodore L. Brooks, Sr.
Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc.
Greetings in the wonderful Name of Jesus Christ, Lady L. Janice Brooks and I send warmest love and greetings! As many of you may have seen and heard through our online announcements, I am excited to share that the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. will reconvene for our 107th Summer Convention in St. Louis, MO. We will be Back Together Again! I sincerely look forward to seeing you all in St. Louis for this year’s Summer Convention. I know it has been a difficult road. We have lost many we love and admire. We stayed home, we sheltered in place, we wore our masks and frequently sanitized. Our lives have forever been changed. Though it was hard to decide, we had two virtual conventions following the wisdom of the Lord. In the midst of it all, we have also learned to lean on God all the more. We have learned to trust in the wisdom of God, even when we don’t always understand. We have learned how to pray more than ever, and trust that He is listening. Now, as we look towards coming out of the pandemic, we must learn to praise God for His keeping, saving, redeeming, comforting power. I want to challenge you to bring a new and revitalized praise to St. Louis, MO for our Summer Convention! We owe God for all He has done! It is our hope and prayer that you join us August 1 – 6, 2022. Our theme is Walking in the Promise of God, and we have confidence that God has kept us to see and live out His promises! Please visit pawtickets.com or pawinc.org to register and secure your hotel reservation. Lady Brooks and I love you dearly and we are praying for you. We can’t wait to see you in St. Louis, MO for our Summer Convention August 1 – 6, 2022. The Master’s Servants, Bishop Theodore and Lady L. Janice Brooks

We have received some great feedback from our recent issues. Below are some of the responses.
Elder Jonathan Cooper Young Adult Teacher Guide - SPRING Love the construct of the student’s book which guides the students in good study habits while answering the questions. Teacher’s manual is very easy to follow for teaching.
Junior Teacher Guide - SPRING We think that it is a wonderful selection for a diverse family. The break down of the lesson seems to meet the needs of everyone. Both teachers/leaders manual and the students manuals are so much easier to follow along together. Everyone loves this selection, so we planned to use this Junior’s selection from now until.

FROM THE EDITOR Evangelist Neechy Dumas
Happy Mother’s and Father’s Day! It is my pleasure to celebrate and honor our fathers and mothers and all of those who have stepped in and stood as parental figures in each of our lives. The impact they have made has been immeasurable, and it is an honor to celebrate them and the life and legacy they leave behind - found within us. It is also my pleasure to celebrate and honor our Presiding Prelate, Bishop Theodore L. Brooks Sr., and Lady L. Janice Brooks for their unwavering support, love, and prayers for our organization and for this publication.

ou spoke…we listened, and the results are in!! We’ve received glowing reviews of our NEW, plastic clearcoat packaging for our Christian Outlook magazines. This new packaging not only allows for easier tracking and processing, but it also seamlessly protects your magazine and its contents during shipment. At the Christian Outlook, we are always looking for new and innovative ways to better serve our subscribers, and this is just one more way we’ve strived to do just that. A special thank you to our LEADERS who have committed to going beyond their ministerial subscription of The Christian Outlook by ordering a subscription for their ministry. We’ve heard the testimonies from those who have shared the Outlook in nursing homes, prisons, barber shops, nail salons and other public locations. These great leaders have consistently helped to push this great magazine forward, and we are grateful for their commitment. And, because of the support of our yearly supporters and you our readers, we were able to increase our sales and distribution by 50 percent in 2021. We’re looking forward to another amazing year of spreading the Gospel around the world via The Christian Outlook magazine.
Thank you to Evangelist Mona Thomas-Green, who heads our Adopt-A-Soul program. Every other month, The Department of Publications sends literature to over 75 prisoners via the Adopt A Soul Program. And, thank you to those who have sent in donations to the program. (You can read more about the Adopt A Soul program on page 48.) Within these pages filled with challenges and triumphs, it is my earnest hope that you are motivated by the powerful testimony of Suffragan Bishop Parker and the leadership pursuits of Minister Omar Thompson, that you find financial wisdom from the words of Sis Lanore Grantham, and that you are inspired by the life, love and legacy of our very own, First Lady L. Janice Brooks. As we transition into what God brings, “We have heard the promise, we have positioned ourselves for the promise, and now we are commanded to Walk in the Promise of God. Now is the time for us to encourage ourselves in the Lord, knowing that we will see the fulfillment of every promise that He has made, no matter what comes our way. Blessings, Evang. Thank you to Bishop Ira Combs Jr., D.D. and the Northern District Council (NDC) and Bishop Donnie N. McGriff, Sr. and the California District Council (CDC) for their support and allowing us to share information and updates during their March Councils.

PASTOR’S CORNER
GOD’S PURPOSEFUL PAIN DURING THE PANDEMIC PERIOD By Bishop Kevin M. Harrison, Sr.
A
s of the writing of this article, there have been approximately 46 million cases of COVID-19 reported. 740,000 deaths and 35,000,000 that have recovered. Thank God for those who are healed!
It would almost be presumptuous to think that the visible church has not been impacted. What is the impact on the visible church? Many of us are still experiencing the residuals of this history-changing plague. Most would agree this period of the pandemic has once again demonstrated the resilience of the invisible church spoken of in Matthew 16:18-19. The Lord’s church is still standing just differently. Parking lot and virtual services that promote unity shows a sharpened focus. Still with all of these adjustments, the memory of the pandemic is still with us. Should the pain be erased? This has been a season of teachable moments, showing us things are going to happen in our faith walk that will affect growth. There will be struggles and we need help through the painful processes. That is what Jesus does. The process is sometimes painful, but it is a part of our spiritual growth. Spiritual growth is not achieved independently. God’s grace makes all things possible. Satan with all of his devices cannot reverse Calvary. Jesus is our victory through painful processes. Abundant life in Jesus gives us strength because we cast all our cares on Him. Realize that God has a purpose and a plan for your

pain. This can be physically proven (2 Cor. 12:7-8). When you hit your knee against something, nerve impulses travel from your knee to your brain then from your brain to your mouth and “OUCH” of “Jesus” (hopefull) comes out. The purpose of that pain is to make us aware of an injury so as not to repeat it. Physical pain signals that something is wrong. What about the pain that God allows? Growing pains that God allows are not negative. If God allows them, we must believe that they have purpose. However, purpose does not make it any less painful (2 Corinthians 12:7). Great speculation by theologians regarding Paul’s thorn have been debated. The mystery regarding Paul’s thorn leads us to the conclusion that that sort of thorn is not important. What is important is God’s reason for the thorn. God allowed it into Paul’s life to keep him humble. Some of the adjustments in the church during this pandemic are that prayer meetings have increased, souls are coming to be saved, and have you noticed some folks are friendlier? There are good things that are happening as a result of the pandemic. Understanding COVID-19 did not make it any less painful. Knowing the facts behind COVID-19 pandemic gave us a greater awareness, but there was no decrease of the

PRAYER
PRAYER WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE By Elder Willie E. Hines, Jr.
G
rowing up as a young child at my grandmother’s home, the power and love for prayer was instilled in me at a very early age. My grandmother, the late Julia E. Hines, was a powerful prayer warrior and the epitome of a God-fearing woman. I learned through her Godly examples of how she loved to pray. She took to heart the Scripture, 1 Thessalonians 5:17; “Pray without ceasing.” She embedded this same love and desire in me. I vividly recall lining up alongside her bed from the oldest child to the youngest, as we would kneel in prayer every night reciting the Lord’s Prayer. Matthew 6: 9-13. After we would finish our prayers, we would then express to God our many thanks. As a child our prayers were simplistic and innocent in nature. We would thank God for having a good day at school, or for getting us a gift or toy. We would thank Him for having good grades, or for not getting in trouble that day. Then, we would close and say, in Jesus’ name, Amen. As time would have it, we continued to grow, so did our prayer life. Our prayer life would advance from just the simple things of what God did for us that day. It evolved to a greater level of appreciation. We were not just praying out of obligation because grandmother said to. We began to forge our own relationship with Him as our prayers continued. As time went on, the prayers began to get a little longer. We had so much more to tell God thank you for. We began to recognize that we were not just praying to a man. We were praying to a sovereign God!
We were praying to someone that not only heard our prayer, but to a God that was well-able to hear and answer our prayers. As Isaiah 65:24-25 states: “And it shall come to pass, that before they call, I will answer; and while they are yet speaking, I will hear.” As I grew to now have my own encounter with an Almighty God, this time in prayer literally changed my life. I learned that through prayer it not only changed me, but it also changed the circumstances around me. With this newfound revelation and knowledge, it allowed me to add content behind my prayers, where I could place a demand on God, to move and then watch Him work. I remember when my son, Elijah, was battling a rare skin disease, psoriasis. Despite the many doctor’s visits and years of intense treatment, nothing seemed to work. But, we kept praying until we saw the manifestation of our prayers. Although, it seemed like God was silent, our prayers were still in full effect. In January of 2019, after eight years, God answered our prayers! My son is healed of psoriasis! In April of 2020, God commissioned me to start a Global Prayer Call to unite believers across the country both nationally and internationally. This clarion call expanded the faith of likeminded believers to thousands around the globe. Through the power of prayer, it changed my life, and that of my son, and now thousands more. All from a small beginning of praying around the bedside to now, a life of prayer. Prayer will truly change your life!

hrist loves His Church so much that He sacrificed Himself to cleanse her from sin and purge her from all filthiness of iniquity, that she might pass from the carnal mind into the spiritual mind, “that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish” (Eph. 5:27-28). Unfortunately, the Church limps along slowly in progression toward Christ-likeness. The congregations of believers are filled with carnal Christians. Carnality is the state of the mind that hasn’t been divorced from the things of this world. How can the soul be paired to God while still in union with the things of this world? This attachment to the temporal world blinds us to the ways and wisdom of God, blocking us from the Kingdom lifestyle He has designed for us to enjoy. Christ declares that God has claimed responsibility for our daily needs, thus making it possible for us to live in His true SHALOM (peace, plenty, overflow, abundance), and His true SHABBAT (Sabbath, rest, rejuvenation). When you worry, you are focusing on the present circumstances, trying to figure out how to fix your issue, rather than trusting God’s promise to perform (Phil. 4:19). Worrying is precisely the opposite of faith. Operating in worry, makes it impossible to satisfy God, “…without faith it is impossible to please Him...” (Heb. 11:6). Wrong focus begets wrong results. Many of us are in a state of arrested development. We know how to preach, praise, and sell chicken dinners, but we don’t know JESUS. We don’t know what the hope of His calling is, why we are saved,

or what we are meant to do with our lives now that we are under grace. We don’t understand how it is that we are intended to redeem the time. Unfortunately, most of us are nearly without hope of receiving the answer because we haven’t arrived at the question yet! Truly, satan has sidelined many of us by using “Weapons of Mass Distraction.” The time has come for us to arise from the dust of these temporary things that distract us from the presence and will of God. It’s time for us to put on our garments of righteousness, take hold of the Kingdom, and grow in Christ. The vision our Lord has for His Church is beyond any of our ability to describe. Truly the Kingdom cannot be fully explained, it must be experienced. I will, nonetheless, attempt to give insight into the glorious life that God desires for you. God has designed for us to trust Him with every detail of our lives so that nothing in this world is able to disrupt our focus or take our attention from the Lord. When we are completely focused on God, we reach a place where we live completely free of worry, fear, doubt, and many of the other effects of the curse of sin and death. Only in this state will you be able to truly walk in the Scripture that proclaims that no weapon formed against you shall prosper! Let go (of this stuff) and let God (have His way in your life)! District Elder Mark A. Haywood is the pastor of Greater Christ Temple in Fort Wayne, Indiana, a member of the ABSA Council of Indiana, and a PAW Social Media Ambassador.

in the Lord and be the change we want to see. Let’s uplift each other! My sisters, Deacon Alaycia White-Carlsen and Deacon Catherine-White Phillips and I started brainstorming what we wanted Glorious Kidz to be. Our goal was to create an educational, colorful, Biblical show to teach children all of the lessons we have learned in Sunday School. On April 5th, 2020, Glorious Kidz premiered its first episode on Facebook. My family and I were pleasantly surprised to see all the positive feedback from people all over the world. Families in Australia, Europe, and the West Indies shared messages with us about how much they enjoyed the show. Since then, my family and I continued to stream multiple episodes from our living room showing songs, dances, life lessons, games, and Bible stories.
“Children are great imitators, so give them something great to imitate.” We chose to have children imitate the life of Christ. understand the magnitude of impact it would have on my life as an adult. These teachings are the foundation of my faith and ongoing walk with Christ. I desire to share this same gift to the next generation and I encourage you to do the same. Remember, children are the future church.
Glorious Kidz went from our living room, to Facebook, to Youtube, Instagram, and now on television. Our production increased and my sister, Alaycia, was elevated as Creative Director and my mom, Lady Eld. Beverly White as Set Designer. Glorious Kidz airs every Saturday at 11:00 AM on Rhema Television Network, sharing the good news to children all around the world with new episodes, songs, and characters. These include, Sis. Catherine (Storyteller), Lady Lauren (Glorious Angel), Lady Bev (Glorious Gardener), Deacon Andrew (Drew’s News), Sis. Yoshiko (On The Go), Rainbow (AKA Bow), and myself as Sis. Ray (Rise & Shiner).
There is popular quote that states that “Children are great imitators, so give them something great to imitate.” We chose to have children imitate the life of Christ. It is so vital, especially now during a time where children are being exposed to so many things that purposely omit Christ. This is the time to give them something that is lasting for the everlasting. My family and I are honored and blessed to share the joy, love, and peace, of Jesus Christ with children all around the world.

HISTORY
SUFFRAGAN BISHOP DR. MADISON GARY COPELAND, D.D
N
ow approaching an unprecedented 60th anniversary and retirement as pastor of the historic Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church in Suffolk, Virginia, Suffragan Bishop Dr. Madison Gary Copeland, D.D. is a living legend and historic figure in the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW). Quite possibly, Dr. Copeland is the last surviving minister ordained by the late Honorable Presiding Bishop Samuel J. Grimes of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World. Suffragan Bishop Dr. Madison G. Copeland, D.D. was born to the late Mr. Wilroy and Mrs. Annie Gary Copeland in Suffolk, Virginia. He is the husband of the lovely Elect Lady Mrs. Pauline Penn Copeland. They are the proud parents of two sons, Gary A. Copeland and Samuel B. Copeland and one grandchild, Gary O. Copeland. Educated in Suffolk Public Schools, Suffragan Bishop Copeland attended the Little A School and East Suffolk High School. He furthered his education at the Norfolk State College, now known as Norfolk State University. Bishop Copeland also graduated from the Roanoke Bible College in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Suffragan Bishop Copeland was converted at the age of 9 years old, received the gift of the Holy Spirit at the age of 11, and received a license to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ in March 1947 at the age of 15 from the late Bishop Samuel J. Grimes. In 1953, at the age of 21, Pastor Copeland was ordained as an Elder by Bishop Grimes and appointed a District Elder by Bishop Clarence Moore in 1994 by the Virginia State Council of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. In September 1984, Suffragan Bishop Copeland was conferred an Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the United Christian College, New York City. He was further elevated to the position of Suffragan Bishop and consecrated by Bishop Clarence E. Moore, Diocesan of the 28th Episcopal District of the Virginia State Council, Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, Inc. From 1954 – 1958, Suffragan Bishop Copeland was called to minister at Tabernacle United Church of Christ and appointed pastor for two years at St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church and Oak Hill A.M.E. Zion in Hertfort, North Carolina, from 1958 to 1960. As a result of his ministry, over 300 souls were baptized in Jesus’ name at A.M.E Zion Church.

Bishop Copeland was then installed as pastor to Greater Sweet Beulah Pentecostal Church on March 18, 1962 by the late Bishop Samuel J. Grimes.
THE NEW BIRTH Dr. Copeland fondly recalls receiving the precious gift of the Holy Ghost at 11 years of age while attending a prayer service in the Baptist Church he attended with his family. “While in the service, I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit and began praising God. As I praised him, I began speaking in other tongues. That night I didn’t stop speaking in tongues, so they carried me home and thought something was wrong with me. One man told my father “He’s gone, he done lost his mine what a shame.” He explains “after a while a few more people in that church received the baptism of the Holy Ghost as well. So, they eventually threw us all out of the Baptist Church because they didn’t understand it.’’ It was at that point, young Madison joined the only Apostolic Church in Suffolk, VA, The Greater Sweet Beulah Holiness Church under the pastorate of the late Bishop Howard Jackson. Upon joining the Greater Sweet Beulah, young Madison was baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. He explains: “they took me down to a muddy creek and I was baptized there. Although I had to borrow someone else’s baptism clothes, I wanted to be baptized so bad, I didn’t mind.”
GREATER SWEET BEULAH Founded by the late Bishop Howard Jones in 1934 as Sweet Beulah Holiness Church, The Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church (GSBAC) is the oldest Apostolic church in Suffolk, VA.

Upon the demise of the beloved Bishop Jones, the church was pastored by the late Evangelist Lottie Jordan. A trailblazer in the ministry, it was the Late Evangelist Jordan who came to the Baptist church that a young Copeland was attending at the time and preached “Jesus.” In 1962 Bishop Grimes called on the then 32-year-old Elder Madison Copeland to pastor Greater Sweet Beulah. Known as “the little Church on the hill where everybody is somebody,” (GSBAC) is a dynamic church where people from a variety of backgrounds and walks of life come together to worship and to connect. Dr. Copeland, who attended the church as a child, remembers the early days of members getting baptized in Pitchkettle Creek. Long-time members of the church, Pearline Carroll and Elder Dr. Rosie Carney, can still remember the old wood-burning and later, kerosene heaters that would heat the church during the winter. In one memorable moment, gospel singer Shirley Caesar sang at the church in the 1940s. This made Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church the first church in Virginia she sang. “She was very young when she came,” said Carney. “I remember everyone called her Little Shirley.” In its 89 years, the church has faced many changes, including changing from Trinitarian to Oneness Pentecostal.
Also, a dining room, restrooms, baptismal pool and a vestibule were added to the front of the church. Additionally, the choir stand was moved in 1983, a new pastor's study was added, and the bathrooms were moved from the back to the front of the church. Central air and heat, new carpet and a handicap ramp were installed. New pews were also installed in 1990. In 2008, the church underwent a major renovation with remodeling of the pulpit, restrooms, new windows, carpet, and a new roof.
TODAY The Greater Sweet Beulah Apostolic Church remains a vibrant part of the community in downtown Suffolk, VA, and Suffragan Bishop Dr. Copeland is still serving the Lord at 90 years of age. A wonderful humanitarian, Suffragan Bishop Copeland lends a helping hand to those in need, whether it’s prayer, counseling, transportation, or meals, he is there for you. Suffragan Bishop Copeland states the most important thing to know about me is I have a B.A.C. Degree (Born Again Christian Degree).
Initially, upon receiving the request from Bishop Grimes to pastor the church, Elder Copeland expressed some reservations. “I was living in Washington, DC at the time, and Mother Jordan had fallen ill. So, Bishop Grimes wanted to know if I would consider coming to Suffolk to Pastor the Church.” So, I said well Bishop Grimes, the Scripture says, that a prophet has no honor/respect in his hometown and Suffolk is my home. So, I am not sure how the folks there would receive me” (Copeland). Bishop Grimes replied: “Young man, I believe they will kindly receive you.” Upon reassurance from Grimes, Copeland accepted the assignment. Amazingly, in the first few years of his pastorate, Copeland commuted six hours by train each weekend from Washington, DC to Suffolk, to pastor the church before permanently moving back home to Suffolk, VA. During his tenure, the church was re-dedicated in 1966 and Apostolic was added to the church’s name.

Lady L. Janice Brooks
he sunset years of our existence on this earth have been portrayed as being an idyllic period where because we have attained a certain numeric age, get to sit back and enjoy the fruit of our labor. We are told that this is the time to relax and appreciate all that we have been able to accomplish down through the years. In addition, we are encouraged to do so because many have not made it to this point. There are many who have not been afforded the opportunity to make it to this stage of life, so we ought to be grateful for having been able to do so. But our Mom has. Mom has reached that time in life where she is afforded the opportunity to sit back and enjoy the fruits of her labor. She has earned the right to not only reflect, but to also glow in her accomplishments. Lillie Janice Brooks has given birth to three sons, all of whom are ministers of the Gospel of Christ. She has enjoyed the presence of ten grandchildren, and she has gracefully entered the period of life called the Golden years. And because of these successes, and the many more that we do not have time to recite, we salute her on this day that has been set aside to commemorate our Mothers. These last few years have seen our mother encounter and conquer several challenges, both physical and emotional. Because of the onset of advancing years, Mom can’t get around like she used to. She isn’t quite as nimble as she used to be, and she isn’t quite as independent as she wants (and demands) to be. Her favorite saying to my brothers and me as we try to assist her in various activities is, “You ain’t the boss of me!” And she’s right; we aren’t. But we are her sons, and she and Pop raised us right. We grew up in a strict household where the rules were cut in stone and the phrase, “…because I said so” was meant to be a very sufficient answer to the question of why…and if it wasn’t, there was a belt nearby to convince us of its sufficiency! We grew up in a household where respect and honor for our parents were etched into the very fabric of our souls. We grew up in a household where, because the Bible was taught and preached, “honor thy mother and thy father” was one of the first Scriptures we learned as children. Consequently, we grew up in a household where my father’s singular mantra, which he repeated daily was, “Take care of your mother!” And that is what we do. At any time, Mom can call on any one of the three of us, and we will come running. At any time, a request can be made of the three of us, and we will expend every effort to accommodate our mother. Because that is how we were raised. Lillie Janice Brooks. To the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, she is the First Lady. To us, her children, she is the rock of our family. She is the Queen of our domain. She is the voice of reason and the reflection of Honor. She is our Mother, and we are grateful to have her with us. As she continues to gracefully age, we, her sons, and our wives and our children, will continue to love and care for her. We will continually salute her and all that she is… because…she is our Mother! Happy Mother’s Day! Ted, Harold, & Darrell
FATHER’S DAY HONOR
Bishop Theodore L. Brooks, Sr.
O
ne year ago, this past March, my family and I experienced an event so traumatic, it has left a lasting impression upon every single member of our clan; my father’s brush with the Death Angel.
As a parent, none of us wants to see their child experience any kind of hardship; however, we understand that hardship is a process in this thing called life. But it’s a different story when the tables are reversed, and we must watch our parents physically struggle for the very essence of life! March 3, 2021 was an extraordinary experience because we witnessed the truthfulness of our father’s fragility. Yes, the Death Angel is real, and it is a concept that introduces itself early in life, but the notion of your parent’s demise, though it is understood that it will occur, takes on a whole new level of understanding when it is in your face. The one lasting impression of this event showcased itself in the servitude of my brothers and me to our Dad. After he left the hospital, he needed assistance with the most basic of needs. Without being graphic, we served him to the best of our abilities, without even a whimper of a complaint or resentment. We served because we had been trained to do so. We served because it was our responsibility to take care of our father! But we could tell, he wasn’t comfortable with being incapacitated and helpless. It was one thing to have strange people roaming in and out of the hospital room poking and probing and collecting all kinds of fluids, but it became something completely different when it was his sons. His humanistic ego kicked in and his first instinct was embarrassment and discomfort. No grown man wants to go through the process of being cared for to that level. But here’s the kicker…we watched our dad take care of his dad in the same manner. Our actions toward our dad didn’t just materialize out of thin air; we had a blueprint. Our blueprint was our father taking care of his father. How could we do anything less for him when he showed us how to “honor thy mother and father”? We could not. We would not. We did what we knew to do…not because we were told…but because we were shown! Not because we had to…but because it was our demonstration of love to the man who gave us life. Our father has always been a little rough around the edges with his sons. He was not blessed to have daughters because God knew he would spoil them rotten. If you need an example, look at his six granddaughters and three great granddaughters!!! But he has imparted to his sons all that he could, and his efforts are visible for all the world to see. No, we are not perfect, but we are all blessed to be ministers of the Gospel. We have raised our children to the best of our abilities. We will strive every day to show honor to our parents through our effort to continue the mindset of servitude and pass it on to our children, so that they may serve as well. Theodore Leonard Brooks, Sr. To the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, he is the Presiding Prelate. To us, his children, he is the foundation of who we are. He is the King and patriarch of our family. He is our beacon of reason and guiding compass. We trust him because he trusts God. We trust God because our Daddy showed us how! Happy Father’s Day Ted, Harold, & Darrell

BUSINESS
WORKIN’ 9 to 5 By Evangelist Neechy Dumas
T
he thought of actually keeping your 9-5 job probably seems like a strange statement coming from anyone who is a full time Entrepreneur, but the truth is, being your own boss (or NOT having a 9 to 5), has become glorified over the last several years, and we’ve lost the true context of what being “self-employed” really means. Obviously, running your own business requires taking a leap of faith--knowing that you have to hustle every day. But there’s no need to add stress on to your “already-full” plate by giving up your day job; especially if you have no solid plan or consistent finances in place. Let me share a few different scenarios with you. Each of these individuals had a regular job at some point, but left their job in order to venture out into full-time Entrepreneurship.
1. JOE • Married, two children, works at one of the big automotive companies. Has a mortgage, car note and other financial responsibilities. Joe has had two fairly good months selling his new nutritional beverage. He gets excited and quits his job, with the thought that he will continue to grow his business. His wife, Sheila, gets pregnant and has to take an early leave from her job. What does Joe do at this point? Would keeping his job have been beneficial until the business made enough income to sustain the household?
2. KELLY • Single, lives with her grandparents, has no true financial responsibilities. Makes a fair number of consistent sales with her stationery business and seems popular on social media. She quits her job at the Veterinarian Clinic to become a full-time craft and stationery seller. Kelly has $350 saved up. Two weeks later, she unexpectedly needs new tires due to hitting a pothole, which will cost her $600. Kelly overdraws from her business account to pay for the tires. Will she be able to purchase the next set of business supplies and inventory?
3. CANDICE • Newly divorced single mom of three, works for a law firm, $65,000 a year salary with benefits. Candice has saved up enough money to cover living expenses for 5 months. She’s had consistent sales with her new candle business, and feels that leaving her job would allow her to pursue and build the business full time. Candice quits her job. The hot water heater in her basement goes out and needs to be replaced. Candice pays for it without issue.
THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
Which of these people made the correct decision? Which of these people, perhaps, could’ve stayed on the job for a little longer? Certainly, there are many variables to every scenario, but one thing is for sure…IT TAKES MONEY TO MAKE MONEY. I always suggest working your personal business after hours and on weekends, with the goal of building it to a point where it can at least take care of your basic household necessities. Leaving a solid 9 to 5 job completely, (with no income coming in on a consistent basis), is not wise. In most cases, a new Entrepreneur has to utilize their personal resources to initially fund the business, unless they receive early business credit, grants or family financial support. And there are other costs to consider, like Health Insurance. Most who are self-employed, do not have proper health insurance if the need arises, but a typical “9-5” job usually provides some type of basic health care insurance for you and your immediate family. In addition, many who are self-employed do not have the finances in place for a “rough” dry business season; or if time away from the business is needed for personal and/or medical reasons. Yet in many cases, a 9-5 job will provide paid time off for tenured employees. As an entrepreneur, you will often find yourself in new and unknown situations, more often than you would like. Things won’t always go as expected. But trust me when I tell you that the small setbacks and failures you may experience will make your motivation, your passion—the reason you started your own business, more refined. Becoming a successful full-time Entrepreneur is definitely a lengthy process, but with much prayer and the right financial planning in place, it is definitely possible to them that believe!

ENTREPRENEURSHIP
ROOTED
IN
FAITH By Aaron M. Johnson
F
irst and foremost, I am APOSTOLIC! There is nothing or no one I love more than serving the Lord. My family and my life have been rooted in faith and an unwavering belief in a God that can do anything but fail and lie. It was my parents who instilled this faith in me, and I’ve had it ever since.
I was raised in Jackson, MI where my family and I attended Greater Bible Way Temple under the leadership of Bishop Ira Combs Jr., until my dad, Bishop-Elect Rader Johnson, was called to start a church in Bay City, MI. He now pastors Greater Bethel Temple in Louisville, KY and my brother, District Elder Phillip Johnson pastors Apostolic Life Church of Bay City where I attend and play the drums. I am the youngest of six and was the last one in my family to be baptized in Jesus’ name and filled with the Holy Ghost at the young age of 5. It was also at a young age where I developed a love for the game of basketball. Like a lot of kids growing up, I had aspirations of playing in the NBA; however, God had other plans for me and I ultimately took a different route. It was my freshmen year of high school where I remember writing down short- and long-term goals. One of my long-term goals was to work for the Detroit Pistons. Working for an NBA team felt nearly impossible to me because there are only 30 teams and only one in Michigan. The competition of landing a job is through the roof, but God, whom I trusted and believed to do the impossible, ordered my steps. Ultimately through faith, I achieved that goal in the summer of 2014. I attended Northwood University where I studied Entertainment, Sports Promotion and Management with a minor in Marketing. I met the Senior Director of Sales during a sports symposium held at Northwood. I met him two more times again weeks apart and it THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
was on the last meeting when he gave me an interview for an entry level sales position. I worked as an Inside Sales Rep for six months before being promoted to Marketing Coordinator and Executive Assistant to the Chief Marketing Officer. After a short time, I was promoted to Youth Marketing Manager where I served in a role of working with the youth. Fast forward to now, I am the team Brand Strategist. It is my job to tap into the culture of the city of Detroit and Michigan as a whole to connect the team and organization with the community, influencers and celebrities. I also serve as a Game Entertainment Stage Manager where I am responsible for booking national anthem singers, halftime performances and managing the VIP’s who attend the games. The Lord has blessed throughout this journey of working for the Pistons. But I wanted to find a way to allow God to show up in my workplace more. I began infusing more gospel into the game day elements by having gospel artists come and perform anthem and halftime shows. Some of the artists I have had performed so far are Karen Clark Sheard, Jonathan McReynolds, Deitrick Haddon, Dante Bowe, Tim Bowman Jr., Young Men 4 Christ and many praise teams and choirs from all across Michigan, just to name a few. Over these eight years that I have been with the Pistons, it was imperative for me to not put the job over my faith and to always continue to seek first the kingdom of God. It was a challenge at first as a Christian working in a secular industry to keep my faith first. One Scripture has been with me daily is Matthew 5: 15-16…”Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” The key to working as a Christian in the secular world is to always let your light shine and never allow anything to blow your candle out. AN
UNDERDOG’S
MIRACLE By Omar Thompson
B
y many people’s perceptions, I would have been considered an underdog; however, my story reveals the miracle and glory of God and what He can accomplish through a willing and obedient servant. I was recently elected to be the youngest councilman in the Borough of Darby, Pennsylvania. My campaign slogans reveal my faith and values: a) They can’t stop me from winning, b) My future is now, and (c) If they only knew my assignment. My primary Scripture is Joshua 1:3 “I have given you every place where the sole of your foot treads….” In January 2021, I said yes to God’s assignment for me because the Word declares in Proverbs 18:16, “A man’s gift makes room for him….” My earliest start was as the oldest of five siblings. We were born to a carpenter father, and he instilled a strong work ethic within me. My stay-athome mom had high educational goals but dropped out of college to raise her children, but she inspired my academic pursuits. I started school with learning disabilities and challenges; however, I learned the value of perseverance and was victorious. Initially starting in special education, I graduated in the top 10% of my class at Germantown High School in 2005. I graduated from Strayer University with a bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management in 2009, and I continued by receiving a master’s degree in Business Administration in 2012. I am currently attending Capella University to complete my doctoral degree in Business Administration with a specialization in leadership. I enjoy working at the intersection of leadership dynamics, financial success, operations, and training and development of all persons within an organization. My leadership vision was to create opportunities for youth in the community. I founded an educational nonprofit organization called “The Thompson Scholarship Foundation” in 2007. This organization has provided multiple scholarships for urban minority youth to pursue their opportunities in higher education.

THE CHRISTIAN OUTLOOK
I started this organization because of my experiences and the challenges I faced in overcoming obstacles to become a successful businessman in both career and educational pursuits. Last year, I joined another call to help make a more significant difference in my community to promote change and provide leadership. I decided to run for a councilman position to honor my passion and concern for others. I wanted to not be just another voice among the masses who complained about what was happening but to help shape the change I wanted for every citizen. I realized that for progressive and positive changes to happen, they must first be made locally. As I awaited the election results, I felt at peace, with faith, trust, and humility because the results were all part of God’s assignment for my life. Like Esther, I believe I was “called for such a time as this” to be an instrument of change and work for the betterment of man and society. I give praise and glory to my Father in heaven in all pursuits. He is why I can stay positive and “be strong and courageous” in all of life’s challenges. My testimony is that I am a victor and not just a victim of life. I credit my faith for the underdog’s miracle of victory, and because of His work for me, I want to help others by becoming their advocate. As God continues to reveal His purpose for me, I intend always to be obedient to the next assignment and step forward in faith because, as always, “I am not what they say I am; but I am what my Father says I am!”
