El negro detrás de la oreja es una frase popular dominicana. fue útilizada por primera vez en el 1883 por el peota llamado Juan Antonio Alix Este poema es una critica a la mentalidad dominicana, que tiende a negar sus raices, mostrando señales de prejuicios raciales.Los dominicanos orgullozamente prioriza sus antecedented “blancos” y parece ser avergonzado de sus raices africanas y al mismo tiempo del tono negro que barniza su anatomia mulata. Esta frase es un recordatorio a todo dominicano que no importa como se ven todo venimos de la misma mezcla. Aquí hay un verso del peoma: “El negro que tiene abuela, tan prieta como el carbón, nunca de ella hace mención, aunque le peguen candela, y a la doña Habichuela, como que era blanca vieja, de mentarla nunca deja, para dar a comprender, que nunca puede tener, el negro tras de la oreja…”
The black behind the ear is an old dominican popular phrase. It was first used in the 1883 in a poem that Juan Antonio Alix wrote. This poem is a criticism about the Dominican mentality of regarding their roots, showing signs of racial prejudice. Dominicans proudly prioritizes their “white” roots and seems to feel ashamed for the African root and the same as the black dye that varnish their mulatto anatomy. This phrase is a reminder to all the dominicans that it doesn’t matter how they look like, we’re all coming from the same mix. here is one of the verse of the poem: “The black has a grandmother, As brown as coal, He never talks about it, Even if you throw in fire, And mrs. Habichuelas, As she was white, Never stops mentioning, To demonstrate, He never had, The black behind the ear ...”
En un pais donde la cultura es conformdda por la mezcla de tanta culturas, la idea de racismo y clasimo no deberia de estar tan presente y atada en la mente de la población. República Dominicana es un país que nación por la combinación de tres culturas principales Africana, Europea y Aborigena. Cada parte tiene una gran influencia en quienes son los dominicanos hoy en día, pero al mismo tiempo todas estas mezclas es exactamente lo que trae los problemas de racismo y clasismo que ha estado presente en la historia de este país. Digamo que inconcientemente los dominicanos siempre se han inclinado a uno u otro de sus raices, por ende ellos hancreado comunicades que segregan a las personas que no encajan en los standares de ser idealmente descendiente europea. los dominicanos han puesto aun lado y han olvidado el hecho que la mezcla de esta culturas es lo que ha conformado la colorida cultura que existe en ese pedazo de paraíso hubicado en el medio del mar caribe. Tomando elementos populares dominicanos y coniertiendolos en piezas de arte, quiero crear una narración que nos recuerde sobre que es nuestra cultura y cual es el significados de ser un dominicano, pero al mismo tiempo mostrar al mundo lo que realmente somos. Esta narración sera conformada por frases, humor y objetos que losdominicanos concideramos ordinarios, ,pero que en la realidad eso objetos “ordinarios” son una gran parte de nuestra identidad como dominicanos el objetivo principal con este proyecto es agregar significado a estos elementos y porneles el valor que realmente tienen como parte de nuestra cultura, porque al final las partes que componen la cultura dominicana y las cosas que los dominicanos disfrutan son siempre las mismas, no importa a que clase social pertenezcan, o si es negro, blanco o mulato, todos disfrutamos un buen mangú, un buen merenguito y una fría.
in a country where the culture is conformed by the mix of so many cultures, the idea of racism and classim shouldn’t be so present and attached to people minds. Dominican republic is a country that was born by the combination of three main cultures African, European and aboriginal. Each part has a huge influence on who Dominicans are now, but at the same time all this mix is exactly what brings up the issues of racism and classim that’s been present in the history of this country. Let’s say Dominicans unconsciously have always inclined to one or other of these roots, therefore they have created communities that segregate people that doesn’t fit in the standards of being ideally “european” or “african”. This Dominicans hae put aside and have forgotten the fact that the mix of all of these cultures is what actually conform the colorful culture that exists in that piece of heaven located in the middle of the caribbean sea. By taking populars dominican;s objects and turning them into art pieces, i want to create a narration that reminds us what our culture is about and what is the meaning of being a dominican, but at the same time show to the wolrd who we really are. this narration will be conformed by dominican phrases, humor and objects that we considerate ordinaries , but in reality this “ordinaries” things are a big part of our identity as dominicans. the main goal with this project is add meaning and put these “ordinaries” things the value they deserve as part of our culture, because at the end the pieces that compose Dominican culture and the things that Dominicans enjoy are always the same, not matter what social class they belong to or if is white, black or mulatto, we all enjoy a nice mangú, a nice merenguito and a cold presidente.
