Qwertee T-‐shirt design

Qwertee and it’s Audience Qwertee is a website in which you create an account and submit your own T-‐shirt designs, these designs are then put up on view to the rest of the community to vote whether or not their worthy of being printed, if it is picked the design will be sold for 24hours giving me the designer a small share of the profit. There aren’t many restricBons in parBcular terms of what you can design but the audience generally favours pop culture references. Looking over the current T-‐shirts I could see designs connected to the game Zelda were geFng the most votes, this trend will most likely be due to the recent re-‐release of one the most famous Zelda games, Mojora’s Mask for the Nintendo 3DS. Unfortunately my knowledge on this gaming genre is limited so some research was necessary in order for me to design something related and likely to be voted for. Reference WanBng to find something funny to work upon within the game I picked up on the fact that the lead character Link gets aVacked by vicious chickens. I also wanted to connect the design in with the popular game series Pokémon, something I was more familiar with as I grew up with it ( and they’re both licenced properBes of Nintendo.) Most of the t-‐shirt design on Qwertee are cross overs of properBes and the styles have similar anime aestheBcs so it would not be much trouble blending them together.

IniBal Sketches With an idea ready I quickly sketched in down in pen before slowly developing a defined pencil version to be scanned into Photoshop, This gave me the opportunity to improve on my anime drawing skills.

Final Piece I was limited to a colour paleVe of six (excluding the background colour of the T-‐ shirt), so it was necessary for me to use hal]ones it order to make certain secBons appear lighter.

Making an Entry In order to enter my piece I had to finally adapt it to this template below to show viewers how it would look as a T-‐shirt, upload was fairly straigh_orward and I look forward to entering more designs in the future.

AlternaBve uses To go along with the new Zelda Ds game my design could also work as a decal skin sBcker cover for the Nintendo 3DS as well. I think composiBonally it works and makes the DS appear quite aVracBve to the eye with two gaming character favourites between the buVons.

(The design could be used as a general sBcker as well, especially aimed at the children's market with the bright cheerful colours) Paul Brough pb251725@students.leeds-‐art.ac.uk
