ARTIST STATEMENT - ASSEMBLAGE SERIES The shapes and colors of my work are often inspired by old board games. I’m curious about what people do for fun reveals about a culture. Recently I’ve noticed a child-like intelligence in my work: simple and complex simultaneously; rudimentary but intelligent in a way that feels beyond me. To me it feels elementary yet unknowable, crude in a way that transcends the sum of its own parts. From a process and materials perspective, I love working with plywood and being able to “construct” a painting. I like the freedom of being able to shift pieces and parts around until it feels right. There is a divine force at play when I’m working. My job is simply to be aware of it, and to make space for beautiful things to occur.”

ARTIST STATEMENT - RESIN WORK “My work spans a large range visually and conceptually, but the unifying idea that seems to drive all of my work is an obsession with the tactile. In addition to a striking tactile presence, the Intersect series pieces explore light and color theory. I’ve considered, in the footsteps of artists such as Donald Judd, the degree of impact (or lack thereof) my own hand has on the work. Recently I’ve gravitated toward limiting the element of human “error” in the work - allowing the naturally occurring elements of light, gravity, and color, to interact in a way that feels pure and unadulterated. The circle motif serves simply as a platform; a stage, for color experimentation. My approach to color (and many things) is simply curiosity. The primary purpose of my work is to entertain and surprise the artist and viewer, and hopefully, to ask questions rather than answer them.”
