I can’t think of a better way to round out summer in Miami than with the highly anticipated launch of our inaugural Best Of issue of Aventura —a project that’s been many months in the making. We couldn’t have made this issue happen without our readers. Thanks to each and every one of you who took the time to enthusiastically nominate your favorite people and places...and then vote on the fi nalists in over 130 categories. You gave us your take on what puts the magic in the Magic City, and we tallied your votes in seven areas: dining, drinks, stays and plays, shopping, health and beauty, sports and media, and services. Now, we proudly present a 32-page lovefest beginning on page 48 that highlights nearly 400 businesses—from restaurants to real estate agents—refl ecting the best of everything in Miami-Dade.
I hope this month’s issue will leave you feeling hometown proud (and give you a new bucket list of places to try)! Don’t forget to follow us on Instagram (@aventuramagazine) and to subscribe to our Insider’s Guide e-newsletter at aventuramagazine.com to stay up-to-date on all things best and brightest in our little slice of paradise.

If you’ve ever strolled past Wynwood’s graffiti wizardry and thought, “I’d love to be able to do that,” then it’s about time you learned and maybe give it a spray yourself.
Miami native Pedro Amos can help with that. Amos has been a graffiti artist for 30 years and he’s the owner of The Pedro Amos Gallery in Little River. He has operated Miami’s Best Graffiti Guide since 2016, offering daily graffiti classes. Guests first tour his gallery and workspace and learn the history of the craft, before getting cans in their hands to spray away on an 8-foot by 16-foot wall. “In part, this is to help destigmatize what is a common misconception ... that all graffiti is vandalism,” Amos says. “In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Grafitti can be a powerful tool to revitalize our neighborhoods and beautify our community.” (TURN THE PAGE FOR MORE)
CONTINUED FROM PAGE 15
n 2019, Amos visited four continents and 19 cities spray-painting murals and completing other art projects. 2020 was slated to be his biggest for travel yet, but the COVID-19 pandemic inevitably led him to further focus on his hometown endeavors.
Beyond his own work that he describes as, “big, bold, bright, and full of color,” graffiti classes are a major part of his day-to-day.
The hour-long classes run $55 per person and typically accommodate up to 10 people. Amos says they are booked online months in
advance and include spray paint, protective gear, and instruction from Amos or another master of the craft. With spray cans in hand, students have the freedom to paint whatever may be inspires them in the moment.
In addition to locals and tourists, Amos has tapped into the corporate and team-building spaces, hosting retreats for work teams from Chanel, WD-40, Air Jordan, and more.
Amos says most of the folks who attend his classes report that they had no idea how difficult graffiti art was until they tried it out for themselves. He adds, “I also hear, ‘My finger hurts,’ ‘I didn’t know I had to spray for so long’ and, ‘How do you make the paint not run?’ quite a bit,” he says, laughing.
“But it all comes with years of practice. And I enjoy so much explaining, showing, and educating all of my students. They walk away with another level of respect for the art form, for sure.” (miamisbestgraffitiguide.com)

Beaches in the 305 might conjure thoughts of the thump-thump of bass blasting in South Beach or cocktails-in-hand parties at Haulover Sandbar. But a tranquil horseback ride on the beach? Now you can take part at Virginia Key Beach with the help of Palomino Ranch and Tours . Excursions cost $150 and last an hour. You can book solo or have up to four friends join you as you saddle up and stroll along the shore while Palomino’s guides offer fun facts about the park, its animal habitats, and more. Count on white-sand vistas (and if you’re brave) a refreshing horseback dip in Virginia Key Beach’s calm, aqua waters. (palominoranchtours.com) –J.S.
The aesthetic industry has expanded very rapidly, leading to poor results, exaggerated marketing, and fears among those wanting to improve or rejuvenate their appearance. However, it is possible to get high quality and natural results by avoiding the gimmicks and carefully choosing the proper providers. Below are a few things to consider for the following procedures.
• Have multiple consultations with different surgeons that specialize in Rhinoplasty…comparing info is worth the consult fees
• Do computer morphed images with the surgeon while discussing your specific changes and goals
• Have the surgeon explain what they anticipate from your specific anatomy and how to change it.
• Make sure the surgeon focuses more on changing the shape, using grafts to maintain support where appropriate, rather than merely reducing cartilages.
• Don’t be swayed by gimmicks of special tools or techniques (open, closed, preservation, ultrasonic etc…) that’s not what gives the results
• Choose a surgeon with true expertise in this delicate procedure
• Make sure they account for the following:
• Lip Length & Facial Proportion
• Lip Fullness / Volume
• Tooth show
• Nasal base support
• Corners of the mouth
• Oral competence (ability to close the mouth)
• Over inflated / fake results are avoidable with good & honest judgement for each individual case
• Avoid solving surgical issues with filler…“lifting” with filler can lead to over inflation… filler should be used to replace volume loss, not to compensate for laxity
• Make sure the focus is on improving aesthetics not over-selling
• It’s easy to get used to your new volume…avoid excessive additional filler
FLIGHTS OF FANCY ABOUND AT PATCH OF HEAVEN SANCTUARY
BY JESSE SCOTT
That moments when a butterfly lands on you or a nearby plant?
Simply magical. Now you can make more of those moments at the aptly named Patch of Heaven Sanctuary . Located in the Redlands agricultural area of south MiamiDade County, Patch of Heaven’s dynamic 20-acre grounds include a mindfulness park, a Zen garden, and a butterfly house. In the latter, the sanctuary raises, rears, and releases nearly 12,000 butterflies each year. Aventura sat down with Patch of Heaven’s own butterfly keeper and lepidopterist Kiki Sylvain to find out what all the flutter is about.
AVENTURA: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE PATCH OF HEAVEN BUTTERFLY EXPERIENCE?
Sylvain: Our butterfly house is filled with the peaceful sounds of a cascading Florida aquifer waterfall set 14 feet deep into the oolitic limestone and surrounded by two tiers of rainbowcolored native and exotic pollinator plants.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR LOVE OF BUTTERFLIES. My passion for butterflies goes back to my youth. From a young age, I felt amazement for these tiny creatures. My curiosity turned to learning as I watched them; I was fascinated that the caterpillars eventually became butterflies. My mind was blown for life.
WHAT TYPES OF BUTTERFLIES DO YOU RAISE?
We grow nine native butterfly species at Patch of Heaven: monarch, great Southern white butterfly, Polydamas swallowtail, malachite, zebra longwing, Julia, Atala, painted lady, and Gulf fritillary.
HOW CAN VISITORS TAKE A PIECE OF PATCH OF HEAVEN HOME WITH THEM?
One [of our] missions is to increase the food source of native milkweed for Monarchs. They landed on the endangered species list in July 2022, so we grow, sell, and propagate this vital food source. Guests can buy some milkweed to bring home with them for their garden. We also sell other pollinator plants in our “Trash Your Grass, Sprout Some Wings” program to help people become part of the solution for these vital pollinators. Butterflies impact one-third of the world’s global food supply, so planting a patch of pollinator plants at home can really make a difference. (patchofheavensanctuary.org)

It’s been the site of Ultra Music Festival’s artist quarters and has hosted private performances by Future and Latto during Race Week. But the Seafair also sees its share of bar mitzvahs, corporate meetings, family throw downs, and more. (seafairyachts.com)
The brainchild of Naval architect Sebastian Phillips, this threedeck craft offers a host of amenities. Its first-level weather deck features a double-sided bar, the mid-level sail deck offers a second bar with a walk-in refrigerator, and the top deck has a DJ booth. With more than 5,100 square feet of space to enjoy and a capacity of 150 guests, The Vessel is the perfect spot for a sunset cruise, DJ event, or dinner party. (thevesselmiami.com)

MIAMI’S FIRST-EVER WINNER ON THE CBS HIT SHOW SURVIVOR DISHES ON WHAT IT TAKES TO TRIUMPH AT TRIBAL COUNCIL
BY NICOLE NEAL
In mind and body, Dee Valladares was fully in Fiji, focused for 26 days on the mental and physical challenges of Survivor Season 45. But her heart never left the city she loves.
“Every time I’d wake up, I’d think, ‘What are my friends doing? What is my family doing?’” says the 27-year-old Miamian, whose speaking speed reaches a Salsa-like 250 beats per minute when she rattles off a list of what she loves about her city. (Some favorites? The people! The food! The positive energy! The diversity! The coffee shops! The Salsa dancing! The huge fitness community!) “Oh my God, everything,” she says.
“I think you need to have something to miss,” Vallardes says. “That’s what [got me] through—thinking about getting back home and telling them I’d won.”
Homesickness worked in her favor. In December 2023, as millions watched the threehour finale, Vallardes proved she could fulfill the Survivor imperative to “outwit, outplay, and outlast” her competition and be crowned the season’s “Sole Survivor.”
The Havana-born, Hialeah-raised entrepre-
neur—the first Cuban native to appear on the show and the first Miamian to win it—came late to the Survivor phenomenon. In 2020, a friend told her about the series, saying she thought Vallardes would enjoy watching it. But after viewing one episode, Vallardes—a CrossFit, hiking, and water sports enthusiast—had a different take. “I said, ‘I think I’d be good on the show,’” she recalls. In December 2022, Vallardes submitted a three-minute audition video to producers. In the spring of 2023, she joined 17 other castaways on Fiji’s Mamanuca Islands. Miami proved a valuable training ground for the Mamanucas. For one thing, “I was really used to that heat and humidity,” says Vallardes. But more than that, Miami’s diversity made it
easy to connect with people from many backgrounds, she says. Her own background (she studied psychology at FIU and later worked in pharmaceutical sales before co-founding backpack company Wanaroam) gave her an added peek into the workings of the human psyche, and probably a master course in tenacity and persuasiveness.
“I relied on relationships,” she says of her strategy on the island. “I went in saying I wanted to build alliances that would outlast the game. I didn’t go in there all cutthroat or bloodhungry. If you take care of people, you can go far. Take care of your people, and they take care of you.”
But taking care of people 8,000 miles away proved to be the ultimate motivation. She’ll use some of the $1 million prize money she won to help her parents, who came to the United States with Vallardes and her brother when she was 2 years old. “Every immigrant knows what it’s like to see your parents struggle and sacrifice,” says Vallardes, who reminded herself during filming that every hardship she was enduring paled in comparison to her parents’ real lives in their early years. “To be able to give back to them is unbelievable. I’m so grateful,” she says.
Gratitude is a recurring theme in conversations with Vallardes. And for her, that sentiment also embodies the spirit of Miami—and the people who call it home. “It’s a city you can succeed in,” she says, her tempo picking up again. “You feel that. There’s a lot of appreciative people here.” (wanaroam.com, cbs.com/ shows/survivor) «
SPOTLIGHT
BY RIKI ALTMAN-YEE
At the Nisi B Home showroom at the Design Center of Hollywood, owner Nisi Berryman approaches her inventory like a curator: her treasures are not only bold and beautiful, but they also tell a story. And none tell them better than the shop’s collection of photographs by Greg Lotus: vibrant depictions of audacious glamour saturated with fashion sensibilities.
“It’s fashion photography, yes, but to me it transcends that genre because his lighting and composition methods are so classic,” says Berryman, who’s been stocking the
images since 2011. “It’s work that doesn’t go out of style. The customers love them.”
That all has to do with the man behind the lens. A former model who was scouted into the industry by modeling agency legend Eileen Ford herself, Lotus has spent a lifetime at photoshoots—first as talent and later as photographer for fashion and lifestyle glossies such as W, Vanity Fair, L’Officiel, GQ, and various international editions of Vogue
“I understand the dynamics of a photoshoot from both sides,” says Lotus, who’s
based in Miami. “This experience helps me create a comfortable and collaborative atmosphere with my models and allows me to capture their true essence.”
Lotus also credits his upbringing in West Virginia for his artistic eye: “Growing up in a rural and picturesque environment instilled in me an appreciation for natural beauty and a connection to the landscape. This influence often translates into my work, where I strive to capture the inherent beauty in my subjects and surroundings.”
These days the photographer is working on a project inspired by the idea of “reimagining classics” and exploring how traditional aesthetics and concepts can be reinterpreted in a modern context.
“I’m committed to pushing the boundaries of my creativity,” says Lotus. “Connecting with audiences through my visual narratives is what I’m most interested in.” (greglotusphotography.com; nisibhome. com)

X In South Africa’s share of the breathtaking transnational Kalahari Desert, Tswalu spans 441 square miles as a private reserve where gold-hued plant life carpets rolling sand dunes against a backdrop of red-clay earth, and elusive species like aardwolf, meerkats, and painted dogs share the spotlight with Big Five icons. The reserve’s natural beauty and abundant wildlife stem from decades of conservation efforts led by the late Stephen Boler and the philanthropic Oppenheimer family, which transformed vast farmlands into a sanctuary for the Kalahari’s delicate ecosystems.
Today, the resurrected, otherworldly landscapes of Tswalu host a holy grail of rare wildlife encounters reserved for the lucky few. By taking a low-impact, high-value approach to ecotourism with just 16 units across its highly protected Kalahari reserve, Tswalu has fostered an unparalleled experience in light-on-Earth private safari. It has bundled the luxuries of space, sightings, sustainability, authenticity, and creature comforts into a stand-alone bucket list destination.
Since 1995, Tswalu has shaped the Kalahari safari narrative, first with accommodations at The Motse lodge and, later, the exclusiveuse Tarkuni homestead. In 2023, the reserve introduced Loapi, meaning “the space below the clouds” in Setswana, featuring six ecochic private safari homes in a section of the reserve famed for its bounty of white rhinos and black-maned lions. Each home, starting at 3,200 square feet, includes a private open-air vehicle, guide, tracker, chef, and homathi (butler), catering to families, groups, and couples seeking a personalized safari adventure— at their own pace.
While traditional Big Five game drives are certainly possible, more often, two half-day activities focus on specific species and habitats, guided by experts who track and study
the reserve’s star residents. (It also helps that a vast team of researchers and ecologists are leading groundbreaking studies into the secret lives of the Kalahari’s greats and can radio in animal whereabouts.) One morning, for example, seek out the reserve’s pack of painted dogs and trail them through their daily hunt. That evening, search for shaggy brown hyenas hiding in the thicket or stalk the dens of rarities like aardvark, aardwolf, and Temminck’s pangolin, waiting for them to emerge and forage.
Another day, encounter white and black rhino via walking and driving safari combos or opt for a helicopter to get a drone-like view of these critically endangered giants. Later, allot ample time to meet and greet the local meerkat families. While these adorable critters often appear on game drives—like a WhacA-Mole game in real time—the presence of three habituated groups allows for up-close and personal encounters with the television sensations. Find a comfortable spot in the dirt as they groom, squabble, stand guard, dig, and forage alongside you. To be sure, no matter your wildlife objective, opportunistic sightings abound, such that your search for bat-eared foxes could be easily interrupted by cheetahs lurking in the brush or roan antelopes and oryx grazing in the valleys below. Overall, there’s so much to see that, unlike most safari lodges where three nights may suffice, Tswalu merits a minimum of five nights.
Beyond wildlife encounters, Tswalu offers a deep dive into the Kalahari’s ecology, with knowledgeable rangers and guides sharing insights gained from ongoing research projects and decades of experience. It’s also a chance to luxuriate in one of Earth’s most singular settings, especially given the vistas and amenities at Loapi. It can be a challenge to leave the confines of your high-design, steel-and-canvas domain, where you marvel at the terrain from your open-air dining room, sunken fire pit, or plunge pool, endless pour of fine South African wine in hand. Interiors are unapologetically cozy with plush couches, a wooden fireplace, and reading and sleeping nooks aplenty. Each is an idyllic place to lounge as chef surprises with sublime snacks and meals using regionally sourced ingredients, and homathi delights by catering to your every whim. At Loapi, each meal is beautifully tailored and presented as well as exquisite in taste.
When it seems things can’t get better, Tswalu ups the ante at its experiential Restaurant Klein Jan (one night included in all safari bookings). Here, award-winning chef Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen crafts multicourse meals blending heritage Northern Cape cuisine with storytelling, set in unique locations across the property. The visual and gastronomic journey begins with light bites outside a 100-year-old farmhouse, followed by soup in a subterranean root cellar, and another half-dozen courses with herbs, plants, and proteins you’ve likely never tried, presented in a modernist, open kitchen nestling the Kalahari sands. Like everything else at Loapi—and Tswalu in general—Klein Jan is an immersive experience celebrating the natural wonders, cultural richness, and secret luxuries of the Kalahari. (tswalu.com) «
quaint coastal enclaves.
Tswalu can be reached via regularly scheduled charter services from either Cape Town or Johannesburg, but we highly recommend the former—and not just as a layover. Africa’s worldliest city, Cape Town explodes with restaurant, hotel, and cultural offerings on par with a major European metropolis yet cast over dramatic topographical contrasts of awe-inspiring mountains, lush winelands, and
Base yourself at Cape Town’s grande dame, Mount Nelson, a Belmond hotel (belmond.com), which celebrated its 125th anniversary earlier in 2024. The history-steeped, 198-key, pink landmark is an exercise in timeless glamour with soothing, understated interiors that focus on hightouch details and, in many cases, face the grandeur of Table Mountain. Enjoy the likes of traditional afternoon tea in the Lounge, sundowners at the Planet Bar, and relaxing
spa treatments at Librisa Spa. Choose from the hotel’s exclusive activities such as an art and architecture walking tour through Cape Town with art historian Kate Crane Briggs or a snorkeling expedition with shark scientist Justin Blake through the Cape kelp forests, the same site where Oscar-winning documentary My Octopus Teacher was filmed. Consider complementing your Belmond outings with other local favorites, including the Constantia Wine Walk (constantiawinewalk.co.za), a private guided walking tour through three wine farms in the Constantia Valley with founder Matthew Sterne, and an unforgettable sunrise hike over Table Mountain, with luxury tour operator African Lynx (africanlynxtravel.com).

Dubbed the Red City for its buildings, ramparts, and crumbling medieval souks of beaten red clay, Marrakech has long been a source of inspiration for artists and tastemakers. A parade of sensory experiences awaits around every winding corner of the city’s medina, a UNESCO world heritage site. Wafts of boiling hides from centuries-old tanneries
commingle with the aroma of bright powdered spices and floating dust plumes sent airborne with each shake of a Beni Ourain rug. The clang of hammered metal being bent into omnipresent C curves—perhaps the inspiration behind Orientalist painter and decorative artist Louis Comfort Tiffany’s subtle maker’s mark—blends into the rumble of hand-pushed carts, the bray of donkeys, and the low flute-like tune of the city’s many snake charmers.
After a day exploring the medina, a full hammam (a steam bath, essentially) is in order. While there are numerous freestanding bathhouses to choose from, hotels both large and small often offer a hammam onsite. A traditional Moroccan house (or riad) is typically built around a central courtyard
with a water feature, and many in the medina have been converted into hole-in-the-wall boutique hotels. One such spot is Villa des Orangers (villadesorangers.com). Originally constructed in the 1930s, this former private home is nestled near the Koutoubia Mosque and boasts a light-filled courtyard, where sun filters through blossoming orange trees and shines on the Zellige-tiled floor.
While the geometry and color palette of Moorish architecture provide the structure of Marrakech, the influence of the French protectorate (1912 to 1956) lingers in subtle ways. French painter Jacques Majorelle purchased land in the area in the early 1920s and set about establishing a glorious garden that he eventually enhanced with a Cubist villa designed by architect Paul Sinoir. Majorelle patented his own color, Majorelle Blue, which he used extensively throughout his garden and was inspired by the vibrant colors of the tiled city surrounding his oasis.
Fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his business partner, Pierre Bergé, purchased Jardin Majorelle (jardinmajorelle.com) in the 1980s and sought to restore both the gardens and its villa. In 2017, the Yves Saint Laurent Museum (designed by Studio KO and built adjacent to the gardens) opened to the public. Bergé, who passed away in September 2017, had previously commented that it was natural to erect a museum dedicated to Saint Laurent in Morocco because his designs, from the colors to the forms, were so indebted to the country. The designer’s ashes were scattered at Jardin Majorelle, his legacy that of a man endlessly beguiled, like so many others, by this place and its beauty. «

BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS, TREAT THE KIDS TO A LAST HURRAH AT SOUTH FLORIDA’S MOST FAMILYFRIENDLY RESORTS
The Breakers Palm Beach perfectly marries style and fun to ensure families make forever memories. The adventure begins at a luxury poolside bungalow, where a concierge is available to bring tropical drinks (the skinny piña colada in a coconut is an adult favorite, while kids adore the frozen lemonade) and food from Ocean House.

Acqualina Resort on Sunny Isles Beach takes children’s programming seriously. The resort has partnered with Ayana Rodriguez, founder of childcare company Itavi, to revamp its AcquaMarine program into a learning experience for kids aged 4 to 12. (Turn to Last Word on page 96 to learn more about Rodriguez.)
Based on the concept of meaningful diversions, the program incorporates five child development “pillars” with activities structured around exercise, reading, arts and crafts, playtime, and cultural immersion. For example, salsa dancing satisfies both the exercise and cultural pillars, while a marine life puppet show qualifies as playtime with a learning component. As its name suggests, AcquaMarine is ocean-themed, so many activities center around the sea and all its creatures. From seashell arts and crafts to beach cleanups, children learn about ocean sustainability while having fun.
The resort’s Family Entertainment Center is a haven for families. With its 4,500-square-foot playground, mini golf course, arcade with classic games and a video game lounge, and endless activities for kids, the center offers fun for all, including parents, who can dine leisurely at the adjacent Italian Restaurant while the little ones play.
Children also can tee off with
the John Webster’s Junior Golf Academy or hit the courts with The Breakers’ Junior Tennis Academy. And little girls have their own Spa Petite for mommy-and-me time. Ice cream mani-pedi, anyone? (the breakers.com) —Marlowe Dunn Flom X 1
The best part is that it allows parents to have an adult vacation, secure in the knowledge that their children are well looked after and enriched on multiple levels. (acqualina.com) —Daphne Nikolopoulos

Hawks Cay Resort in the heart of the Florida Keys indulges the family that craves up-close-and-personal interaction with local sea life. It’s the only resort in the contiguous states to offer a variety of programs to get in the water with a pod of bottlenose dolphins, including the chance to be a trainer for the day. It also hosts family-friendly fishing outings for the angling-oriented crowd, including tarpon, redfish, and snook excursions on the Florida Bay. For kids-only adventures, the resort’s Camp Hawk invites young vacationers to the Coral Cay Activity & Adventure center to learn about local sea life (including feeding tarpon!), coral reefs, and the chance to be a pirate or mermaid for the day. ASTON MARTIN’S NEWLY REDESIGNED VANTAGE COUPE PACKS A PUGILISTIC 656-HP PUNCH
BY HOWARD WALKER
There’s this lovely British expression “suited and booted.” It describes when someone dresses to impress in formal business attire, typically a dark, slim-fitting suit with spit-andpolished footwear. It’s a look perfected by British tough-guy Jason Statham in The Transporter series. It’s Colin Firth in Kingsman. And, naturally, it’s Daniel Craig as Bond, James Bond 007. For me, Craig’s best suited-andbooted look was him in that pinch-tight, Tom Ford chalky-gray two-piece in No Time to Die. If there’s a car that best defines “suited and booted,” it must be the latest offering from Aston Martin, the just-revealed 2025 Vantage. It’s a gorgeous piece of automotive design—oozing with visual drama and the very height of cool. Parked alongside, the Aston’s arch-rival, Porsche’s 911
Turbo, looks a little milquetoast. Its new front-end takes the classic Aston grille from the now dearly departed Vantage V12 that debuted in 2022 and makes it 38 percent bigger. But the new grille is not there just to give the car a prettier face. The Mercedes-AMG sourced 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 that powered the previous Vantage V8 has been pumped up to deliver a mighty 656 hp. That’s an impressive 30 percent, or 128 hp, increase. Max torque, a better measure of a car’s fun factor, is up 15 percent to a stump-pulling 590 lb-ft. According to Aston, this new power plant can slingshot the Vantage from standstill to 60 mph in just 3.4 seconds, and not quit slingshotting until the speedometer is showing 202 mph.
Alas, a casualty of this new, more dynamic Vantage is the beloved twin-turbo 5.2-liter V12 that powered the last Vantage V12. Part of the reason is that the new V8 delivers virtually the same performance as the V12, with fewer of those nasty emissions.
While a V12 has gone from the new Vantage line-up, Aston execs just announced an updated 12-cylinder that’ll power an upcoming flagship model, likely a new DBS. It’ll be rated at a staggering 824 hp with 738 lb-ft of torque. It’s part of the company’s quest to move the brand further upmarket.
Other big news for the new Vantage is the car’s upgraded interior. The previous cabin had hard-to-see instruments and fussy switchgear. This Vantage essentially adopts the interior of the latest DB12. Everything from its redesigned steering wheel and the crystal-clear digital instrument display, to the 10.25-inch center console touch screen and the stubby elec-
tronic shifter is a huge improvement. The 2025 Vantage comes with Bowers & Wilkins 390-watt, 11-speaker audio, with the option of a 1,170-watt surround sound setup with 15 speakers.
To complement the car’s power, the handling has been honed and heightened. The torsional rigidity of the bonded-aluminum chassis is increased 7 percent for even sharper responses. Add to that new Bilstein DTX adaptive shocks
with five settings and 21-inch forged alloys wrapped in new, super-grippy Michelin Pilot Sport S rubber, specially developed for the car.
Aston’s strategy to move more upmarket is seen in the sticker price of this new Vantage. Where the outgoing model started at $151,000, this new version kicks off at an eye-watering $194,400. Too much? Remember, a new 911 Turbo range kicks off at $197,200. As for driving an Aston that has the same suited and booted panache as Bond himself, just priceless. «
HIGH SEAS
BY HOWARD WALKER
Legend has it that way back in 1777, a young confectioner from Constantinople named Haci Bekir mixed starch and sugar with a splash of rose water and mastic gum. Left to set, dusted with icing sugar, and then cut into small cubes, the gelatinous candy we now know as Turkish Delight was born.
Fast-forward 247 years and there’s an even more mouthwatering Turkish delight on offer: the brand-new Sirena 48 from Istanbulbased Sirena Yachts.
Established in 2006, Sirena has grown into quite the powerhouse in the luxury yacht market. At its newly expanded 1.6-million-
square-foot facility close to Istanbul, it produces a fivemodel range of trawler-style yachts, from this new 48 to a high-luxe flagship 88.
This 48 is an important addition, essentially being designed for the U.S. market and with the goal of attracting younger buyers. Easily handled by a couple, it has a terrific layout, with a huge flybridge, acres of outdoor space, a light-filled saloon, and a trio of en-suite cabins.
I got to spend a morning aboard the first 48 to arrive in the United States at the recent Palm Beach International Boat Show and walked
away very impressed. I’m a big fan of trawlerstyle motor yachts, especially ones that can kick up their heels and go fast.
See this newcomer tied to the docks and it is a true head-spinner. Yes, it looks like a scaled down version of Sirena’s 58, 68, and 78 models—same imposing vertical bow, bolt-upright windows, wraparound pilothouse screen, and almost-haphazardly-placed hull windows. But
in a sea of look-alike floating Clorox bottles, the Sirena is a standout.
While the exterior lines are from Sirena’s design team in Turkey, what’s key here is that the 48’s semi-displacement hull is from the drawing board of legendary Argentinian naval architect Germán Frers. He endowed the cruiser with swift performance, confident seakeeping, and a smooth ride.
PRICE: FROM $1.5 MILLION LENGTH: 52 FEET BEAM: 16 FEET ENGINES: 2 X 550-HP CUMMINS QSB 6.7S TOP SPEED: 24 KNOTS RANGE: 480 MILES WHY WE LOVE IT: BECAUSE IT’S ONE OF THE MOST STYLISH, FAMILY-FRIENDLY CRUISERS OUT THERE.
How swift? With the optional twin 670-hp Volvo D11 turbodiesels on V-drives, she’ll hit a 27-knot top speed and cruise effortlessly at 16.
Even with the standard 550-hp Cummins QSB 6.7s, the top speed is an impressive 24 knots.
Throttle back to 10 knots and you’re looking at a cruising range of close to 500 nautical miles; that’s Miami to Nassau and back, with fuel to spare. And with a draft of just 3 feet 5 inches, skinny Bahamian waters are not a problem.
Climb aboard the hydraulically lowering swim platform at the stern, take the three steps up to the aft cockpit, and soak in the
view. The cockpit is completely shaded by the flybridge and features twin sofas and a foldout table for entertaining. Sliding-glass doors open into the saloon, with the compact galley right there so the cook remains part of the action. The saloon boasts another dining area with a U-shaped sofa and hi-lo table.
Take the wide teak-treaded stairs up to the flybridge and prepare to be wowed—again. I love this top-deck space, with its full sofa at the rear, outdoor kitchen, two-person helm seat with 360-degree views, and massive sun pad in front for six or more.
Make your way below deck to find the Si-
rena’s spacious primary suite, which spans the entire 16-foot beam and has more than 6 feet, 5 inches of headroom. Up in the bow is an equally roomy VIP cabin that could almost double as the primary. Close by is a twin-bedded guest cabin with almost 7 feet of headroom.
Throughout the yacht, the quality of materials, the level of detailing, the fit and finish, and the cool design cues are top-notch. These details are made even more impressive when you consider the fact that the Sirena 48 has a super-competitive base price of $1.5 million, or around $1.8 million nicely loaded. This is one Turkish delight that is worth the calories. «

Q&A with Sarah Zohar FOUNDER AND LEAD DESIGNER
SARAH Z. DESIGNS Winner, Best Interior Designer
Have you always wanted to be an interior designer?
I always loved design, but I had no idea it would snowball into a career. However, I can definitely say it is my passion.
What's your advice for someone considering a home redo?
Trust the process. It can be a big undertaking, but when you hire a professional to help you with the project, they can help save a lot of money and minimize costly mistakes.
What are your favorite projects to work on?
My favorite projects are the ones where my clients trust my creative vision.
Stepping from the elevator into the foyer of a residence at the Elysee tower in Edgewater, the homeowner’s directive to interior designers Osirys Mendez and Sabrina Vela, partners at Mendez Vela Design, was clear: maximize the condo’s sweeping views that include the downtown skyline, the Design District, Midtown, Wynwood, and Biscayne Bay.
“Drawing inspiration from the surrounding environment...we created an elegant yet livable space inclusive of the art, studies, and travels of our client.”
The airy abode encompasses 3,887 square feet of interior space and a glorious 710-square-foot terrace for tranquil outdoor moments and alfresco entertaining. “By strategically planning an open,
fluid layout, selecting organic materials, and creating seamless connections between the interior and exterior, we aimed to generate a design that harmonizes with the stunning views and provides an immersive and captivating experience for the residents,” notes Vela. “While there is no explicit delineation of spaces, the great room design allows for a natural segregation of areas based on the choice and mood of the occupants.”
Thrilled to see his vision come to fruition, the homeowner was impressed with how the team’s design solutions aligned perfectly with his individuality.
“As designers, we invest emotionally in every project we undertake,” says Mendez. “More than just a design, it is
a manifestation of our client’s needs, desires, and aspirations—a true reflection of their unique lifestyles, preferences, and personal tastes.” (mendezvela.com)

BY DESIGN
BY ALENA CAPRA
Designing and furnishing your home can be fun and exciting. But with that excitement can come frustrating (and often expensive) mistakes. Follow these tips to nail the proper scale of area rugs, take the pain out of picking paint colors, and ensure your new furnishings will not only fit properly within your room, but also fit through your front door. (alenacapradesigns.com)
Choosing the right fabric for a piece of furniture can be a tough decision. But once you select the color and/or pattern, be sure to consider whether the fabric will hold up well. Lifestyle and use both come into play here. Whether it’s a home with young children, pets, or ample entertaining, take the stress out of fabric selection by going with a performance fabric. Alternately, consider treating traditional fabrics with a Scotchguard treatment to ensure they hold up to everyday wear and tear.
SOME HOMES LOOK BEST IN COOL LIGHTING, WHILE OTHERS SHINE IN WARM LIGHT. FORTUNATELY, NEW LIGHTING TECHNOLOGY OFFERS A VARIETY OF COLOR TEMPERATURE OPTIONS. FOR REFERENCE, 2,700 TO 3,000 KELVIN IS A WARM COLOR RANGE, AND 3,500 TO 4,000 KELVIN IS CONSIDERED A BRIGHT WHITE RANGE. 5,000 KELVIN AND UP PRODUCES A MUCH COOLER WHITE LIGHT. WHEN PICKING DECORATIVE FIXTURES OR BULBS, TRY TO MAINTAIN A SIMILAR COLOR TEMPERATURE FOR A CONSISTENT LOOK, AND KEEP IN MIND THAT TUNABLE COLOR TEMPERATURE OPTIONS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.
Nailing the scale of an area rug is easier than you might think. To properly scale your living room rug,you have two options: either size the rug so that all of the furniture legs are on the rug, or place just the front legs of the furniture on the rug. For bedroom area rugs, an 8-by-10-foot rug or a 9-by-12-foot rug will work well under most king-size beds (depending on room size). For queen- and full-size beds, a 6-by-9-foot rug will fi t nicely underneath the bed.
FURNITURE THAT FITS There’s no denying the importance of accurate measurements. It’s not just the dimensions of the space where the furniture will go; you’ll also need to check the width, height, and depth of the piece to make sure it will fit in your building’s elevator (if you live in a condo or an apartment) or through the doorways and hallways of your home. Items that often cause fit problems include tall pantry cabinets, long roller shades, and sofas over 9 feet long. Pro tip: Modular sofas are always a safe bet.
PICKING PAINT PAINLESSLY When it comes to getting the perfect paint color, samples are key. Paint your swatches on individual sample boards instead of directly on the wall. That way, you can move them around to check how the color looks in any light or any area of your room. Or consider using one of the many AI visualizer tools available from paint manufacturers that can show you exactly what a color will look like in your space. Once you’ve found the right color, don’t overlook paint finishes. Matte or flat paint is good for low-traffic areas and ceilings, eggshell is better for medium-traffic areas, while satin finish is preferred for bathrooms and high-traffic areas.

Creating a combined home office and studio for clients was the task DKOR Interiors lead designer Marianna Cerullo Di Bella and residential designer Silvia Parra took on with this space. “They wanted to work together and share their hobbies at home,” Cerullo Di Bella says. “The studio also needed to match the modern Asian style of the house. We achieved a continuity in the design through materiality; wood flooring flows seamlessly into veneered cabinets and sliding doors. The same marble on the fireplace is used for the desktop and wall. Sheers cover large windows, providing natural light.” North Miami (dkorinteriors.com)

Getting away from it all on vacation is an ideal way to reset and hit the pause button. But for parents, the age-old family vacay can feel like anything but a relaxing getaway. That’s why Ayana Rodriguez, mom to three kids, created the Itavi Method (short for “It Takes a Village”), a childcare service that partners with some of Miami’s most luxurious resorts, including Acqualina Resort, The Biltmore, Fontainebleau Miami Beach, and The St. Regis Bal Harbour Resort—ensuring parents have a chance to sip a cocktail poolside while their little ones are safely engaged in kid-friendly pursuits. Aventura caught up with Rodriguez to learn more about what makes her tick and how she balances it all. (itavikids.com) —Kristen Desmond LeFevre
« My full name is… Ayana Rodriguez. I live in… Coconut Grove. I grew up… between New York and Vermont. I came to Miami… to attend business school at the University of Miami. When I was a kid, I wanted to... be in politics, work in investment banking, and be a model. My first paycheck in life was… working at a movie theater. I live with… my husband and my three children. My kids are… my teachers. My favorite places we’ve traveled as a family are… Europe and New York. Going on vacation with kids in tow can be… not a vacation! I got the idea to found Itavi when... I knew there had to be a better approach to childcare. One question I get asked a lot is… “How do you create balance?” My average day is… intense and strategic. The intensity comes from having to resolve in all areas of my life being a mom, a wife, running a business, and taking care of myself and my responsibilities. I need to be strategic in my time management to be productive. My obsession is… creating and having new experiences regardless of the challenge, and knowing that it will bring personal growth. My personal mantra is… be better than yesterday. When I’m not working or momming,
you’ll find me… traveling and spending time with friends. If you’re going to pour me a drink, make it… rosé or Champagne. If you’re coming to my house for dinner, I will probably… have someone come cook for you. If I’m eating out in Miami, I’ll book a table at… ZZ’s Club. Something most people don’t know about me is… I love house music. The items that never leave my handbag are… my phones and crystals. If I could give my younger self advice, it would be... be patient, have awareness, and be intentional. The next big project I’m excited about is… launching new Itavi properties in South Florida and internationally. If I were to write a memoir, the title would be… Perspective is the Key to Growth.
