2: TAKE TWO THE EVENLY SPACED ROYAL PALMS lining Okeechobee Boulevard abruptly give way to the towering skyscrapers of downtown as she navigates further east. The buildings stretching into the sky above the panoramic sunroof mirror her ambition. She grips the steering wheel tighter, flicks a finger to downshift, and lets the chortling exhaust reverberating off the concrete and glass engulf her. She catches a glimpse of herself in a storefront; all swooping curves and pinched creases and fully realizes: she’s right where she wants to be—but nothing can stop her from taking even more. The lone companion on her journey of self-fulfillment is the 2022 BMW M235i xDrive Gran Coupe. More mature, capable, and unabashedly stylish in its sophomore generation, the M235i is still accessible, but hardly entry-level. The tautly-stitched leather and soft-touch materials of the interior are precisely choreographed, their performance only briefly interrupted by the dueling digital gauge and entertainment screens. The elongated glass roof—a happy consequence of the additional rear doors—bathes the cockpit in sunlight, which highlights the brilliant details of both the center console, and her designer purse. She makes her arrival. A brief pause. A backward glance stolen. The Shadowline trim and bi-color 19inch double-spoke wheels lend the briefest hints of aggression to the artful Misano Blue Metallic contours. It’s a hue that proudly declares her confidence; something the sea of anonymous grayscales sharing the road could never achieve. The subtle lip spoiler is the final scene as she turns her gaze toward her next act. The 301 steeds corralled within the 2.0-liter turbocharged engine restlessly await her return. When called upon, they impose their will through the 8-speed transmission unto all four tires—triumphing against even the most unforgiving asphalt. Once the reigns are pulled, regenerative braking charges the battery in an imperceptible melding of efficiency and performance. The 2 Series unequivocally serves and enthusiastically delights in equal measure. Less a dual personality than a combination of superlative intangibles in an attractive package built for a lifestyle. It isn’t her only choice; but it is the right one.

MARQUE-ING MILESTONES IT WAS A BIG STEP FOR PETER BROCK. While he was prepared to take it, he had nonetheless weighed it heavily. The year was 1977. The car, a black Porsche 911 Cabriolet. The decision was finally made. The journey however, had only just begun. Peter had spent his twenties cruising the suburban streets of Long Island in various sports cars. There was the E-Type Jaguar, the Pontiac GTO—and the makoshaped Corvette he brought to a stop in front of his neighbor’s driveway on the day his life changed. Holding court

over the block was an iconic silhouette sporting a gold, red, and black crest on its hood. Despite it’s rumbling V-8, the American renegade had lost all power over Peter. Shortly after guiding his first hotel project to success, the time was right for Peter to step up to a P-Car. Thus began a ritual of sorts. Every three years or so, a milestone was reached— and a new Porsche was welcomed into his garage. 1980. 1983. 1986. 1989. 1992. From his marriage to his wife Janice and birth of his son, to his business’ expansion to South Florida, Peter could track his life

by the 911 he was enjoying at the time. White, black, red—the colors may have changed, but the 5-speed manual and convertible top remained mandatory. By 1995 Peter had permanently moved his family south, and made his first purchase from Porsche West Palm Beach: a midnight blue 993 Cabriolet. Now beneath the bright Palm Beach sun, the ritual continued unabated for the next decade—until his development business hit full boost in 2004. A rocket ship in the form of a sterling silver 996 Turbo was the only way to celebrate.

What followed was a parade of Stuttgart’s most powerful offerings, culminating in his 2016 model; the first of Peter’s to feature the venerable PDK automatic.

and philanthropists, an interloper emerged. An image of the upcoming Taycan had captivated their attention. Three years had passed since Peter’s PDK purchase.

Over the ensuing years Peter gleefully terrorized I-95’s onramps on a near daily basis. His obsession had even converted Janice to a certified Porschephile; while she would drive his 911s on occasion, her true baptism came by way of her first Panamera. This kicked off a habit of her own; recently taking delivery of her third in six years. The couple is currently also enjoying their third Macan SUV. All was well.

Their names were on the order list by the next morning.

That was, until Janice and Peter found themselves at an event for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, of which he serves as Chairman of the Board. Among the socialites

Undeterred by a COVID-related delay, Peter and Janice purchased their stunning white-on-black Taycan right off the Porsche West Palm Beach showroom floor. In an amusing case of history repeating, a neighbor—infatuated with the style and performance of the all-electric spaceship—soon acquired their own. Peter’s story had come full circle. Another milestone marked; another Porsche by his side.

DOWNTOWN GETAROUND THERE ARE A NOT INSIGNIFICANT AMOUNT of our fellow West Palm Beach citizens who gaze with disdain upon the novel influx of abstract murals and intricate graffiti gracing our downtown cityscape. These same cosmopolites scoff at the torn denim skinny jeans and sculpted athleisure spandex adorning the bodies of those born after the Berlin Wall collapse. They likely see no point in a purely electric vehicle, either. Fortunately, the 2022 MINI Cooper SE Electric isn’t meant for them. It’s less a traditional mode of transport, and more an Instagram collaborator; less concerned with performing its job than looking good while doing it. Then again, if style is a full-time commitment, the SE Electric is the perennial employee of the month. HOMEGROWN LUXURY IN THE HEART OF ADMIRAL’S COVE, bookend by the two luxurious leviathans dividing his driveway, stands Rob Thomson. His mind is elsewhere—not geographically, but chronologically. A boy once rollicked his dirt bike across this very ground, perilously weaving between trees and bushes untouched by human development. Rob Thomson comes as close to a native of Jupiter as one can, having called the hamlet home since he was barely a fortnight old. He was constantly by his mother’s side as she traveled from one listing appointment to another on Jupiter Island. He and Jupiter grew alongside each other until eventually his adopted hometown matured into a thriving luxury community; one around which Rob has built his successful brokerage, Waterfront Properties and Club Communities. The shared history has provided man and town a mutual understanding. Though there is one more common thread that unifies the two: Braman Motorcars. It’s here that Rob has found more kindred spirits; a shared customer-oriented philosophy not of having transactions, but providing experiences. The sentiment is one he impresses upon each of his agents. Rob’s love for fine German machinery was sparked three decades ago in the form of a BMW 528e sedan. Since then, he has purchased all manner of luxury vehicles through Braman, culminating in his most recent shining black Bavarian—the new X7. His favorite restaurants all still address him by first name, and there is no shortage of charm to be found among the quiet canals meandering toward the Atlantic Ocean. This dichotomy of big city amenities and small town culture are why Rob chooses this particular community over any other in Palm Beach County. As he might put it, there’s Jupiter…and then there’s everywhere else.

UNBURIED TREASURE THE TEMPERATURE HOVERED IN THE HIGH 80s, but the humidity remained low. The gentle rays of late afternoon sun peeked through the skyline along the West Palm Beach waterfront as soft waves lapped against the seawall. Had it been only a few months prior, nary a soul would have been present to take in such an unexceptional South Florida twilight. However, this wasn’t the start of an ordinary Friday night. Though abiding by increased health and safety measures, a flock of admirers had arrived to partake in the Palm Beach International Boat Show—as well as the unofficial kick-off of the sorely missed Club Braman event calendar. Though much had irreparably changed over the previous 12 months, the quality of entertainment provided to members had never waned. The prestige of the night was made apparent in the form of two titans appropriately bathed in Nautical Gray. The matching Rolls-Royce Cullinan and Ghost Black Badge models were thoroughly monotone save for tangerine orange pinstripes matching the tent of co-host, and Club Braman Business Network member, Worth Ave Yachts. Both were on hand to complement the evening’s guest, President and CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Americas, Martin Fritsches. Mr. Fritsches graciously allocated hours of his time meeting and speaking with invited Club Braman members, providing unprecedented access to one of the minds behind perhaps the most recognized luxury brand in the world. Throughout the course of the night, the guest of honor discussed some of the challenges his company had faced, as well as the surprising developments that have appeared in the immediate aftermath.

Martin Fritsches, CEO Rolls-Royce Motorcars Mr. Fritsches expressed confidence in the ultra-luxury consumer segment, and excitedly conveyed that Rolls-Royce has secured a new, younger demographic over the past year. In fact, 40% of recent purchasers were new to the brand, and some were as young as 40 years old. He credited much of this success with the recently released Black Badge editions—which proved

deceptively popular by accounting for approximately 30% of all new Cullinan sales. THE PURSUIT OF A PRICELESS LEGACY CLOSE YOUR EYES AND TRANSPORT YOURSELF back in time to adolescence. Back when you would accompany your parents to the store or work. Of all the family vehicles before or since, there’s likely one in particular that lingers in memory. Even today, you can distinctly recall how it smelled; how the blend of materials felt on your fingertips; the intricacies of the worn patina both inside and out. Though there were thousands like it, if presented, you’d still know YOUR car in an instant.

As the years have passed, it’s not uncommon to entertain the idea of tracking that car down—or perhaps even buying it, should it have escaped a junkyard crusher. Is it a sense of closure we’re seeking? Or is it just the eternal pursuit of our lost youth? Even if the journey were undertaken, would we like what we found? Jose “Pepe” Fanjul doesn’t have to settle for supposition. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t quick, but the result was even more gratifying than he’d ever imagined.

Spanning nearly a century, the Fanjul-GomezMena family can be found sprinkled throughout Rolls-Royce’s historical order books. His mother learned to drive in one while growing up in Cuba during the 1920s. She loyally drove models from the British marque her entire life—her final spec being a 1970s-vintage Shadow. However, her 1958 Silver Wraith Limousine—inherited from her aunt, the Countess de Revilla de Camargo Maria Luisa GomezMena—left a lasting impression on Pepe. The car was sold at one point to a US Army General stationed in Europe, and while many double-R badged vehicles came and went in Pepe’s life, it was his mother’s heirloom that he vowed to one day rediscover. It became a life’s mission; unfortunately, fate would be hard to fulfill. The General brought the car back stateside after his tour of duty, and was eventually left to his daughter somewhere in California. However, the trail ran cold beyond that, with nary a service record throughout the country to act as a clue. Deterred but not defeated, Pepe settled on building a tribute as consolation. He procured a nearly-identical 1957 variant, though upon purchase it was nowhere near the pristine original that haunted his memories. He commissioned Nofre Alba Mateu, a world-class mechanic/artisan in Mallorca, Spain, to conduct a complete restoration of the ’57— down to the hand carved wooden interior panels. The process would ultimately take two years. Pepe had mostly resigned to settling for his silver medal when suddenly the ’58 resurfaced; registered with Rolls-Royce by the daughter and her husband in California. Anxious for the reunion he’d dreamed of, Pepe immediately got in touch with the current owner by way of a broker. He was met only by disappointment.

The voice on the other end of the line insisted that the car would not be leaving their hands. For months afterward, Pepe employed every negotiating tactic his decades of business had gifted him to no avail—until finally striking a lopsided deal. In exchange for his pristine, ultra-rare, fully restored 1953 Rolls-Royce Shooting Brake, plus an additional sum, he’d receive the downtrodden Silver Wraith. It was a no-brainer for Pepe; the sentimental value was priceless. He’d finally achieved his dream. All was not well, however. The car was far removed from its former glory, only having been driven on rare weekends to local golf courses, and boasting years of deferred maintenance. There was only one solution—so off the ’58 went to Mallorca to undergo the same process its new sibling had completed years prior. This presented its own set of problems though, as the ’57 had used up nearly all of the available parts for these particular models. The expense doubled this time around, but none of it was spared for this labor of love. All the decades, dreams, and deals had paid off. Pepe now had two matching Silver Wraiths that are likely the only two of their condition in the world. Both will be left to his two children, conceivably never to leave the family again. Pepe’s is a tale of both trouble and triumph, and is ultimately one to which we can all relate. It’s the story of a son’s journey to honor his mother and reclaim the best days of his adolescence in any way possible. May we all be lucky enough to have a similar opportunity.

Peter Krones is one of the fortunate few who has not only realized his predetermined destiny, but established his own. Found at the heart of both, is the world’s quintessential sports car marque.

Peter’s Porsche path was set in motion by his father, who attended an Austrian engineering school with none other than Ferry Porsche himself. Thus, Peter grew up admiring the rear-engined icons until finally purchasing his first, a 993 example, in 1997. What followed was a succession of 18 P-cars—most of them 911s. His characteristic loyalty extended beyond the brand as well, with Braman Motorcars GM Steve Grossman was in some way or another involved in nearly all of the transactions.

It is a personification of his dear friend’s own legacy, and one Peter is keen to combine with his own. An active member in the New Jersey sect of the Porsche Club of America, Peter was eager to join in the local chapter’s camaraderie under the year-round Jupiter sunshine. He soon grew disheartened however, as the furthest north a majority of the events materialized was Boca Raton. It appeared a no-man’s land existed between Palm Beach County and the central region of the state. That is, until December of 2020.

Their relationship was established decades ago, when Peter and his wife Susanne purchased a BMW from Steve as an anniversary present, back in their home state of New Jersey. Shortly afterward, Steve informed the two of an opportunity he’d been awarded in South Florida. A healthy dab of jealousy over the temperate climate he’d soon be galavanting off to notwithstanding, Peter bid him a fond farewell.

Peter is now a co-founder and sitting board member of the PCA’s newest chapter, dubbed the Gulfstream Region—established to serve Porschephiles from West Palm to Vero Beach with the first-class events, track days, and charitable projects that they have coveted for years.

Some ten years later, the relationship was reignited when Peter and Susanne made their own permanent move south. In addition to the mild winters that greeted them, they found that the entire Braman Motorcars experience—from purchase to product; sales to service—had clearly been crafted in Steve’s ethos; with GM Mo Rezza a particular stand out.

As an immediate proof of concept, the group amassed more than 260 members within six months—many of them Club Braman members themselves. This past September saw Porsche West Palm Beach co-host a Cars and Coffee-style morning meetup; the first of many to come. Peter’s is a burgeoning legacy that Braman Motorcars is honored to be a part of—and one of which Peter’s father, and his friend Ferry, would certainly be proud.

Ed’s co-action with our nation’s leaders extended for decades. Ronald Reagan referred to him as “Mr. Hennessy.” The elder George Bush docked his yacht at his summer property near Walker’s Point in Maine.

To wit, Nixon himself once asked to borrow Ed’s 747 for a trip to China; a request only signed off on in exchange for the President agreeing to speak at his company’s upcoming Christmas party. Nixon obliged, and concluded his speech that evening to a standing ovation.

Yet the person Ed declares he was most awed by was neither a man, nor a United States citizen; but the late Prime Minister of Great Britain, Margaret Thatcher.

There is no additional context necessary; this powerful, efficient, brilliant beauty could devote its existence simply to ferrying occupants from point to point, never failing to deliver a smile with every silent start up.

Of course, because it is a Porsche, there is an epilogue. The Taycan can do and mean more, if so desired. Its dormant sporting DNA can only properly be discovered within the controlled chaotic confines of a racetrack however. Fortunately, two heroes—Porsche West Palm Beach and Palm Beach International Raceway—recently combined forces to help write a new chapter in the lives of several fortunate Club Braman Porsche owners. Though unlike any Porsche before it, once speeds and G-forces begin to escalate, the Taycan makes its place in the marque’s anthology obvious. The speed of the 911, matched with the Cayman’s precision and the Panamera’s all-around balance have coalesced into a respectable sequel to Porsche’s first nine decades of internal combustion performance excellence. Best of all, there’s an adaptation for everyone. Participants were welcomed to sample the recently released RWD variant, median 4S, and the twin titans of the Turbo and Turbo S. Organized into quartets spread between morning and afternoon sessions, each Club Braman member was granted the opportunity to alternately drive and ride

through a test lap of the PBIR road course within each edition of the Taycan’s autobiography. Leading the way in brightly colored 911 Carreras were professional instructors on loan from Porsche’s Birmingham, AL. driving school. Tethered to the Taycans via walkie talkies, the day’s hotshoes provided coaching and encouragement through braking zones and apexes, as well as valiant attempts to stave off the hard charging 600+ horsepower Turbo models along the back straight. Despite the nearly triple-digit temperatures of the South Florida summer, each Taycan performed flawlessly. Batteries retained boost, brakes continued biting, and tires held tight from early morning through late afternoon. At the end of each respective session came an unexpected postscript: hot laps authored by the instructors for those interested. Each began with a violent, neck-snapping full-fledged launch before a hard jaunt throughout the course, now at the mercy of far more capable pilots. After such a display of the Taycan’s ultimate potential, it was easy to finally understand why this has become Stuttgart’s latest bestseller.

VIVA CLUB BRAMAN IT WAS IN THE AIR. Equal measures excitement, relief, warm salt grains and waning golden sunlight, the atmosphere was rife outside The Ben Hotel in downtown West Palm Beach for the triumphant return of Club Braman events. July’s Casino Night was set to conclude nearly 18 months of COVID-19 mandated dormancy—and act as the debut of an evolved membership experience. Though expectations were understandably high, they were somehow still exceeded—in classic Club Braman fashion.

From arrival, this event was unlike any before it. Members handed their prized vehicles to The Ben’s professional valet staff, before being whisked from the entrance lobby to the rooftop level promenade, where they were greeted with $500 in playable wages and a brimming glass of wine. Floor-to-ceiling glass windows simultaneously contained the revelry while offering picturesque views of Palm Beach Island and the sun-tinged crests of the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

Slot machines, roulette wheels, blackjack and craps tables combined with a full bar and personal Hor d’oeuvres evoked shades of a mini Monte Carlo. While seasoned members immediately felt at home, those of the more than 270 attendees who had only recently upgraded their dealership experience were paused in awe. It was certainly not business as usual—this was a Club Braman that had emerged on the other side of adversity more sophisticated, more accessible, and even more entertaining. The later hours of the night brought more firsts as several former Club Braman Magazine features were presented with

framed copies of their stories, while the night’s exciting conclusion was marked with numerous prizes and the awarding of the inaugural Club Braman Casa de Campo 7-day, 6-night vacation to one fortuitous member. Refusing to let the festivities end, many members and their guests dispersed throughout The Ben, ordering dinner or seeking a nightcap beside the rooftop terrace. Though the first, this particular Casino Night is far from the last; meaning Club Braman members will have even more opportunities soon to attend—and possibly win— their own experience of a lifetime.

BRIDGING THE GENERATIONAL GAP TODAY’S LAMENT OF A CERTAIN AGE GROUP OF PORSCHE enthusiasts typically begins in one of two ways:

STARSHIPS AND ENTERPRISE IT’S DIFFICULT TO AMASS A CABINET MORE FULL of accolades and awards than that of Club Braman member Robert Crippen (Captain, US Navy, Ret.). In his former life, he oversaw more than 13,000 civil service and contractor personnel as the Director of NASA’s John F. Kennedy Space Center, and was responsible for 22 successful Space Shuttle missions launched from the United States’ gateway to the universe. In a former former life, Captain Crippen performed his tour of duty as a Navy pilot, as well as piloted the first orbital test flight for the Shuttle program. He has been honored by NASA, the Department of Defense, the National Geographic Society, the FAA, and Congress—as well as a myriad of other organizations.

However, what Captain Crippen is most proud of today is awarding others— namely STEM students, through the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation. Following, he shares his experience with the ASF, as well as his thoughts on the exciting current state of space travel:

*Responses have been edited for clarity and brevity. WHAT IS YOUR VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF SPACE TRAVEL? I believe that space travel will continue to evolve. NASA will pave the way with exploration that will take us back to the Moon, and eventually onto Mars. Industry will follow—first into low earth orbit, and then onto the Moon and Mars. Industry will encourage tourism, and then the exploitation of activities such as mining.

DO YOU BELIEVE SPACE TRAVEL WILL EVER BECOME ROUTINE? “Routine” is in the eye of the beholder. With today’s technology there is always a significant degree of danger with spaceflight. I believe we’ll see space travel on a much more frequent basis within the next ten years, unless one or more of these vehicles has a major accident. Let’s pray that doesn’t happen.

WHAT DOES THE AVERAGE PERSON NOT KNOW ABOUT SPACE TRAVEL? Today, most people who are interested in space know quite a bit. I am surprised to learn that many people think NASA has some type of weightlessness trainer; they do have an aircraft that can fly a parabolic path and provide about 30 seconds of a similar feeling, but that doesn’t live up to the actual experience. They do use a large swimming pool for spacewalk training which also gives some idea—but also doesn’t really come close. Only orbit can give you the true experience.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE POTENTIAL PRIVATIZATION OF SPACE? I believe that commercial pursuit of space travel is a positive thing for the world. This will eventually bring down the cost of accessing space substantially. It also increases public awareness of space travel. I believe NASA will continue to be at the forefront of space exploration, but private efforts will help reduce the cost of those pursuits. We’re already seeing examples, such as SpaceX building the lunar lander that NASA will use in its Moon program.

THREE UNIQUE SPACECRAFT DESIGNS HAVE BEEN LAUNCHED RECENTLY BY PRIVATE COMPANIES AS A PRECURSOR TO FUTURE SPACE TRAVEL. HOW DO THE DESIGNS DIFFER? Virgin Galactic uses a unique carrier aircraft up to around 50,000 ft, before the spacecraft’s rocket fires up and is then manually flown to above 50 miles. It is a lifting body design which allows it to be flown, unpowered, down to a runway similar to how the Space Shuttle was landed. Blue Origin’s approach is a vertically-launched rocket with capsule on top. The rocket carries the capsule up above 50 miles, where it is released. The rocket then makes an unmanned vertical landing, while the capsule falls back to earth and uses a parachute for landing. Space X’s capsule is launched vertically on a two-stage rocket, which takes it into orbit, where it is released. The first stage of the rocket makes an unmanned vertical landing. After the capsule completes its mission, it fires a small rocket engine

to de-orbit and enter the earth’s atmosphere. After slowing sufficiently, it uses parachutes to land in the ocean. WHICH IN YOUR OPINION HAS SHOWN THE MOST PROMISE? They are three different approaches to space travel. Both Richard Branson’s and Jeff Bezos’s crafts are designed to take tourists to the edge of space—but not orbit. They go up about 50 miles and come back down, providing a few minutes of weightlessness; but they don’t have enough energy in their propulsion systems to get into actual orbit. Elon Musk’s Dragon was contracted by NASA to provide crew access to the International Space Station—which is around 250 miles up—and has completed two successful missions. In order to do this, their spacecraft goes into orbit around the earth. Its crew experience prolonged periods of weightlessness while in orbit. Thus, the SpaceX vehicle is a great deal more capable than the others.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN INVOLVED WITH THE ASTRONAUT SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION? I became involved with the Astronaut Scholarship Foundation (ASF) in 1994 while I was Director of the Kennedy Space Center. The foundation was started by the original Mercury Seven Astronauts in 1984 to provide scholarships to especially bright college students studying Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) subjects. Since its inception, astronauts from the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab and Space Shuttle programs have all embraced the ASF’s noble mission. Like them, I also believe it is important to encourage these type of skills in our youth. Starting in 2001, I served on the Board of Directors, and for a few years I was the Vice Chairman of the Board. While I’m no longer on the Board, I continue to support the foundation. ASF partners with industry leaders, universities, and individual donors to reward the best and brightest university students pursuing STEM degrees with substantial scholarships. The prestigious Astronaut Scholarship is known nationwide for being among the largest merit-based monetary scholarships awarded to undergraduate juniors and seniors. ASF forges a life-long relationship with each Astronaut Scholar and provides them with professional and personal development and networking with mentors, astronauts, executives, and industry leaders to help advance their careers. WHAT ARE THE SHORT AND LONG-TERM GOALS FOR THE SCHOLARSHIP FUND? The mission of the ASF is to aid the United States in retaining its world leadership position in technology and innovation, by supporting the best and brightest scholars in science, technology, engineering and mathematics— while commemorating the legacy of America’s pioneering astronauts. The ASF’s vision is to encourage and facilitate Astronaut Scholars in embodying the highly-respected characteristics of astronauts, such as intelligence, ambition, self-motivation, ethical standards, persistence, tenacity, adaptability, and inspire their passion for science, exploration, and innovation. This focus will aid in placing the best American scholars in positions that will positively change and influence society. WHAT DO ASPIRING ASTRONAUTS NEED TO SUCCEED IN SUCH A UNIQUE AND DEMANDING CAREER? The requirements for astronauts continue to evolve as space travel changes, so I can only speak for myself: it involved tenacity, training, and a whole lot of luck!

THE FIRST BIRTHDAY IN A YOUNG MALAYAN TIGER cub’s life is especially meaningful. Traditionally, this occasion marks their official coming-of-age—and as of May 12, 2021, all three of the cubs in the Palm Beach Zoo’s Club Braman-sponsored immersive habitat were granted their new titles. Visitors are now welcome to meet Triton, Cahaya, and Mawar. Triton, the lone male cub, received his moniker as a nod to his regal heritage, while his sisters’ names were inspired by the Malay language; Cahaya, meaning “light,” and Mawar, meaning “rose.” These names are essential for helping form a bond between the young siblings and the care team. Their final designations came courtesy of several longtime Zoo supporters.

Z’EST LA VIE FOR A MAJORITY OF THE PAST DECADE, MINI has pursued a slightly more mundane manner. The number of customizable aspects to their models have declined, though the amenities and convenience have expanded. In short, BMW’s influence has permeated into the marque’s DNA with somewhat mixed results. However, when it comes to the 2022 lineup, it appears someone at MINI has finally realized it’s possible to lavishly decorate your cake, and eat it too. The newest flavor added to the mix? Several new shades of personality. The slightly tweaked front and rear bumpers of the Cooper, Cooper S, Convertible, and JCW iterations can now be bathed in Rooftop Gray, Island Blue, or the spectacularly named Zesty Yellow. Of course, attempting to pin a single hue to this particular strand of pigment is a bit of a Sisyphean undertaking. The shades alter themselves per the light’s influence. FORWARD FROM THE PAST TECHNICALLY-SPEAKING, MIRRORS ARE WINDOWS into the recent past. Between the speed of light and our brain’s processing capacity, there lies the slightest delay between reality and our perception. It is within this brief interval that the 2022 Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo lives. The newest apex of the marque’s successful EV introduction is simultaneously a harbinger of the future and a reflection of its past. In Cross Turismo guise, the Taycan has created the heretofore undiscovered subdivision of the do-it-all electric vehicle. At the same time it pays homage to the historic demand for mind-melting speed. It isn’t quite yet real, yet somehow has been inevitable since the dawn of personal transportation. The long-roof design is both beautiful and functional. Rearward passengers and cargo capacity both benefit handsomely, while all occupants enjoy increased headroom. Available in variants between 469 and more than 600 horsepower, the Taycan Cross Turismo delivers all of its additional utility without sacrificing the on-road dynamics or blistering acceleration fundamental to the original. Range projections crest 220 miles, and the three included years of complimentary charging per the Electrify America network can offer 80% efficacy in just over 20 minutes.
