HIGH SEAS The Adventures of TINTIN This 112-foot Westport superyacht is ready to take you to places far and wide

By Howard Walker

here was no more enthusiastic a globe-trotter than the inquisitive, ginger-quaffed mystery-solver named Tintin. Created by Belgian cartoonist Hergé in 1929, Tintin traveled the world looking for adventure with his trusty canine sidekick, Snowy.

Tintin and his joie de vivre no doubt inspired the owners of this gorgeous 112-foot, American-built Westport to name their new yacht after the lovable character. Since launching late last year, the mini-superyacht’s adventurous spirit was put to the test when it cruised from Westport’s yard in Port Angeles, Washington, through the Panama Canal, ending in Palm Beach just in time to shine at this year’s Palm Beach International Boat Show. Now, after a sudden change of plans, this dreamy luxury cruiser is

Ton the market with top brokers Fraser Yachts for $17.5 million. Part of its considerable appeal is the fact that the lucky buyer will be getting a virtually brand-new yacht with all the bugs sorted out and without the typical two-year wait. Tintin—pronounced “tan-tan” for all you Francophiles—is the latest in Westport’s popular W 112 series. Since the 112 was introduced in 1994, 65 have been built, making it arguably the most successful superyacht ever. Of all the 112s out there, Tintin boasts the coolest, sexiest, craziest interior of them all. It is part floating South Beach boutique hotel, part gift shop at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. The snowy-white walls are broken up by splashes of vibrant color, textured finishes, and whimsical decorations. The salon has huge windows and bleachedblond wood flooring, as well as a glass and chrome dining table surrounded by see-through acrylic chairs. This space boasts some great art too, including a waist-high, multicolored Great Dane sculpture and a near floor-to-ceiling Pop Art painting of screen siren Lauren Bacall. Another unique design highlight is that terrific top-deck hardtop flybridge, with clear eisenglass panels that can be opened or closed. Three steps out and down from the flybridge take you to the shaded back deck, which features a Jacuzzi, a lounger, and even a grassy area for that extra feeling of home Snowy would adore.

When friends and family come to stay, Tintin has four big staterooms, one of which is currently set up as a gym. The full-beam master suite continues the whimsical theme with its porthole-inspired doors and a hand-painted sky-and-puffyclouds ceiling. The master bath, on the other hand, is super sleek, complete with contoured tiles and a mirrored ceiling. While Tintin is happiest at her 12-knot cruising speed, where she’ll run for 2,500 nautical miles on a tank, she can also get up and go. With a pair of muscley 1,900-horsepower Caterpillar turbo diesels, she can
