Traveling across the state to the Treasure Coast, interior designer Jackie Armour embraces a subtle elegance in the creation of the interior scheme for a 5,000-square-foot Bermuda-style villa with its 1,850-square-foot guesthouse in Hobe Sound. Down the coast, the Intracoastal Waterway is the backdrop for a 9,000-square-foot home created when designers Brett Sugerman and Giselle Loor Sugerman joined forces with architect Randall Stofft to deliver the ultimate indoor and outdoor entertaining lifestyle. And interior designer Sam Robin did not hold back drama when commissioned to create the unique stylings for one couple’s 8,500-square-foot residence in Palazzo Del Sol on Miami Beach’s exclusive Fisher Island. Answer: Anima Domus was founded exactly 20 years ago. I was a businessman in the tech field. Silvia, my wife, was a gifted architect and interior designer. So we decided to join our passions and create a platform through which we could express our vision. Question: How did you start in the business? Answer: We were raised in Brasilia, Brazil, amid the captivating work of the prolific Modernist master, architect Oscar Niemeyer. As such, modern and contemporary designs have always been in our roots. Simply said, Anima Domus was part of our lives even before we realized that this was the path that we wanted to follow. When we started Anima Domus, our warehouse was our home garage. Good times! TEXT

talian megayachyt builder Benetti unveiled its 220-foot Benetti M/Y Seasense custom superyacht with luxurious contemporary features that recall the sea. Dutch designer Cor D. Rover styled the exteriors with what he calls his “Benetti beach club concept” — a design that evokes the feeling of relaxing on the beach. Surrounded by teak planking that lends the space an open airy feel, is a massive freshwater swimming pool edged by bold blue, umbrella-shaded lounge chairs. Located on the aft deck, it is considered Olympic size for a superyacht pool. It can be converted to a basketball court or a dance floor for evening fun, when carbon fiber panels are assembled on top of the water. A nearby dining area, set with a table that accommodates 12, is also perfect for poolside entertaining. ...continued on page 96

“All the elements in this house are very strong ... but at the end, nothing gets aggressive and everything seems to be in the right place,” interior designer Alexandra de Garidel says.
WHEN IT COMES TO OCEANFRONT LIVING, BELLS AND
whistles are rarely needed. Subdued design features, a soft color palette and minimalist furnishings serve to complement nature, playing a supporting, but essential role. But for this seaside house, a fairy tale home nestled in lush surroundings, the inside is just as important as the outside. And renowned Franco-Swiss interior designer Alexandra de Garidel spared no effort in fine-tuning every detail for a showcase of livable luxury. “The house is made to be practical,” the designer says. “It’s not only nice to look at but it’s nice to live in, very pleasant.” Large windows, a mixture of concrete and woods, and a human scale despite rooms of massive proportions are some of the main facets of this 9,000-plus-square-foot home, a secondary dwelling for the owners. theme of transparency weaves through the property, from the massive windows, to the pool with its acrylic railing and an open-air lanai, its contents visible from the circular stone pathway to the side. The lanai furnishings are of a luxurious, chic nature but conveniently suitable for the outside elements. Light sheers pull closed to shade the space reminiscent of the beautiful Delano hotel in Miami. “I pictured a white curtain floating in the wind, exuding a romantic aura while offering a shade of privacy … this was the idea,” the designer says. 118 FLORIDA DESIGN VOL. 28 NO. 2

Inside, one of the challenges de Garidel faced was incorporating finishes that would temper modern and in some instances cold elements. Case in point, cool concrete panels delineate space in the great room, while warm teak flooring flows throughout. The complex relationship between the modern and eclectic styles in the architecture and interior scheme begins in the great room housing the entry, kitchen, living and dining areas. The designer curtailed the high volume of the spaces with furnishings that yield a relatable human scale. Stainless steel cabinetry lines the kitchen, where a glossy blue

backsplash catches the eye and welcoming counter stools pull up to the warmth of a walnut-topped island. “Everywhere in the house, one feels the pull of the ocean,” de Garidel says. The resin steps of the stairway, set at an easy distance from each other, ascend from one floor to another linked by two art pieces saturated in a deep blue hue. A splash of blue carries through to the dining area, where artist Shirazeh Houshiary’s inspiration, so lightly pencil-stroked onto canvas and clouded over by a finely wrought blue color, creates the artistic focal point. installation – a mobile light fi xture illuminated by the circular skylight just above — is definitely eye catching. Each tier gently moves to cast a shimmering glow around the space styled with concrete panels and touches of warm walnut. “Concrete is something natural, very practical, and very unusual to be used in such proportions inside a house,” the designer says. In the living area, a hammock takes full advantage of the high ceilings as it suspends in a privileged position to enjoy the ocean views. “This is the kind of thing you have to think of during construction because if you don’t include the supporting structure into

the ceiling, proper installation becomes really difficult afterwards,” de Garidel says. “It took us two weeks of discussion to get the exact, perfect position of the swing.” Nearby, the main living area presents another temperature juxtaposition – the elegant, cool black stone of the fireplace and the actual function of the feature used to warm the space. A linen-clad sofa joins the Pilar Proffitt cocktail table and a walnut stool atop a sandy hued area rug that introduces an earthiness to the area. The boy’s bedroom is a chic example of what little kids dream of – a room where superheroes and the color blue are the main acts. The beds provide clean, modern lines, tempered by the slightly vintage zest the Warner comic posters yield. The stature of the home is unmistakable but the homeowners didn’t just want an impressive dwelling, they wanted a home to live in – full of warm furnishings and blue accents to remind them of the seaside bliss just outside. ◆

IF YOU’RE A TOPNOTCH
interior designer, you’re used to listening carefully to the wants, needs and tastes of your clients. You will personalize and adapt their wishes to create something uniquely their own. But what if you have no idea who that client is? That was the case when Sam Robin began an 8,500-square-foot residence in Palazzo Del Sol on Miami Beach’s exclusive Fisher Island. Robin was designing for a purchaser who was yet to buy. “My trick is to have a fantasy buyer in mind,” she says. “I picture someone who is sophisticated, perhaps with extended family visiting, enjoying the beach and its leisures.” And in keeping, she elegantly designed spaces to accommodate groupings of family and friends. Adept at designing large spaces such as the massive great room that expands toward the water, Robin delineated the room with a sisal area rug, bleached

At its far end, two identical groupings in the waterfront sitting area face off to create an energy that brilliantly brings guests together. The dining room is bright by day and intimate by starlight. Embracing the nature of wood and its soft textures, the designer didn’t hesitate to cover the walls and floor in bleached white oak. Leather and cerused wood chairs easily seat 12 around a bleached oak table with astonishing legs of bronze-finished brass panels.

The horizontal is emphasized in the forefront of the great room, where the living area’s angled sofas from Vladimir Kagan and the sculptural form of Philip Michael Wolfson’s cocktail table throw right angles to the wind. EcoSmart’s linear fireplace warms the hearthside setting.
Having an elevator to take you privately to your residence is a requirement for a high-end condominium residence, but a transition from the public space to the privacy of home may be needed. In keeping, Robin devised a gallery-like entry that immediately captures attention. “Multi-unit buildings always present challenges,” Robin says. “Ceiling height is one of them.” With elevations ranging from 8.5 to 10 feet and various functional necessities housed there, she cached lighting where possible to create atmosphere

in the master suite’s media room, a sculptural chandelier from David Weeks Studio and a striated free-form table from Molteni&C harken back to a time of large design. Through fluted glass doors, Lambert et Fils’ pendants from Studio Twenty Seven and cached lighting above the bed soften the mood in the private space.
bedroom. Here, the bed is “canopied” within a niche backed by a wall of luxurious gray silk. In its simplicity, the master bath achieves its own drama especially when watched over by two shadowy presences. Not only did the designer attend to the interiors, but she also added greenery to the balconies and in the corners of the rooms. “A subtle technique, yes,” Robin says. “But in a large building with large spaces, this is an effective method of softening and pulling together volume.” It is likely that when the “fantasy buyer” Robin envisions comes walking through this Palazzo Del Sol condominium, they will immediately feel at home and know this residence was created specifically for them.

WHEN THE OWNERS OF
this 8,000-square-foot Regent at Park Shore condo in Naples, hired interior designer Edward Gary Shanabarger to stage their dining room for a dinner party, he artfully arranged a transparent all-glass tableau with vases full of vibrant flowers the colors of a sunset in front of floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Gulf of Mexico. The owners’ friends have not stopped talking about that dinner party. “It was a magical evening,” Shanabarger says. “The couple fell in love with the idea of making some minor changes … purchasing a few new art pieces and freshening things up.” The designer woke the clients’ passion with his vision — a culmination of several years spent merchandising displays in stores like Macy’s and Bloomingdales, and orchestrating events in Naples. The condo, round with stunning panoramic water views,

The use of celestial elements continue throughout. Creating vistas and vignettes in the main salon, and the encore objective reprised from his first project — seating 22 guests for dinner — were criteria numbers one and two. A third: the clients’ attraction to iconic images of hands and spheres is boldly curated throughout the room in sculpted furnishings like Pedro Friedeberg’s vintage Lucite hand chair, and eclectic accessories such as hand-painted enamel “Shades of Blue” ostrich eggs and milky glass spheres on the dining table. When entering the foyer, the wife wanted to open the door and “see white.” To satisfy her request, the designer created a Milky Way of white on white — polished ABOVE:

glass and glossy Lucite furnishings that float above diamond white marble flooring. Celestial nighttime sights and an ever-changing sky are reflected in Shanabarger’s choice of white linen over a mylar-backed, silvery wallcovering. Elegant shimmering furnishings and finishes aside, some of the condominium’s infrastructure required retro fits to modernize it. Architect Rob Herscoe was already acquainted with the high rise when he was invited into the project. “The building is probably about 20 years old. It is contemporary but the interiors are very traditional, Mediterranean,” he says. Herscoe consulted on the unique, reimagined monochromatic black-on-white kitchen, where he designed a floating island to anchor the space. Cabinetry, refaced with glass doors and trimmed in chrome, rests against a textured wallcovering. In one of the dining areas, a centerpiece of pink roses adds subtle color to E.G. Cody’s round glass pedestal table that is circled by Luminaire’s molded dining chairs comprised of 900 PVC bristle tubes. A guest bedroom with angled gulf views was repurposed as the husband’s study. Book-matched slabs of Silver Wave marble and graphite mirrors accent interior walls, and a vintage modern chandelier cascades light above Allan Knight’s acrylic desk.

The master suite is created with lush textiles and furnishings. Nancy Corzine’s “Curtain” bedside chests are customized with satin nickel Murano glass pulls and sterling silver inlays. Artwork by artist Carmelo Blandino, from Thomas Riley Studio, inspired the color palette of this stunning room.
Cabinets display the owner’s large collection of fountain pens — some used to sign historic documents. A cowhide area rug branded with tractor tire treads lends a feel that is masculine yet refined. The opulent master bedroom suite features the “radiant orchid” and deep purple palette found in Romo’s Zari Clematis bedding. York’s organic grass wall covering is the texture of striated parchment over a metallic backing. Azar’s shaggy silk area rug grounds the room in luxurious comfort. The husband’s master bath is simply furnished with a polished nickel bench clad in black hide, and accessorized with a silver-leaf enhanced cowhide area rug. Architecturally, the space was carved out from one of several hallway galleries. Lighter in feel, the wife’s master bath features soft lighting with an array of LED moonbeams. To echo the elliptical lines of the new Caicos stone resin tub, a section of the ceiling was recessed to install Pelle Designs’ bubble chandelier composed of polished nickel, blown glass globes and white leather coils. Outdoors, the curved lines of the stylishly furnished terrace are mimicked by Vondom’s Op Art “Twist and Shout” area rug designed by Karim Rashid. This home’s spectacular makeover, which happened over the course of two years, is truly heavenly.

THE INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY BECAME THE PERFECT
place to relocate with breathtaking views that set the stage for one couple’s lifestyle usually found only in dreams. Beginning with a waterfront lot, interior designers Brett Sugerman and Giselle Loor Sugerman joined forces with architect Randall Stofft to create a stellar 9,000-square-foot home that delivers ultimate indoor and outdoor entertaining, along with the most dynamic aesthetics. “Although the couple remained involved throughout, they had a lot of faith in us,” Loor says. “After a strong interview, they let us fly.” Every aspect of the home offers unique characteristics that distinguish it from the typical South Florida contemporary style. It’s straight lines and organic elements flow throughout. “The client wanted a modern home; however, it had to be warm and unique,” Stofft says. Comfort is overt with a deep-seated sectional from Holly Hunt, and leather and chrome swivel oyster chairs that add a hint of modernism in the family room. A modular cocktail table from the B&G collection is quite eye-catching with its high-gloss satin finish and unique arrangement.
tongue-and-groove planks are set beneath all the soffits to warm the coolness of the gray stucco exterior and smoky glass railings that encase the upper balconies. The sophistication of sandblasted colonial white marble adds texture to the exterior, while gradated gray elements style the patio and detached loggia. Gray glass is used as the banister for the structured blackened steel stairway that imparts a mid-century influence to the space. Columns of rift cut oak with integral floor-to-ceiling LED light channels draw the eye up and around the room, while a hand-knotted silk and wool area rug rests on a floor of European-fumed oak — a smoking process that cures the wood to accentuate the colors and grain pattern. Nearby, the bar exudes a welcoming vibe and warm ambiance heightened with a dropped ceiling illuminated with LED lighting to create dimension and drama. The brushed-wenge marble waterfall counter stuns in perfect complement to the rift oak cabinetry. “Having the bar within the living room draws people to this fantastic space,” the architect says.

In the kitchen, Snaidero USA’s cabinetry, Opustone backsplashes and a center island complete with a Teppanyaki grill top take the culinary arts to a whole new level.
The family room is a place to unwind with its flat panel television that centers the rift cut oak wall — the backside of the living room’s fireplace. The wall intercepts the ceiling with built-in channels of lights along with twin LED downlights that cast mesmeric illumination. “It was a trick we designed to enhance the continuity between the two spaces. We are all about connecting all of the elements in the rooms,” Sugerman says. Warm and inviting, the sectional sofa is clad in a very durable taupe and gray cotton blend fabric with chunky leather arms and an array of accent pillows. Understated yet expressive, the setting in the dining room is simple and stylish with incredible detail. The art of dimension is an integral part of the design plan as a series of asymmetrical drywall beams varies in width above an oversize oak table from Holly Hunt. Anything is possible when you have a dream team that’s all in favor of creating a space that is as purposeful as it is pleasing to the eye. Everyone desires of a state-of-the-art kitchen that beckons even the finest chefs and this one does not disappoint. The instant connection between the white quartz countertop and the RIGHT: The homeowners’ beautiful, round oak pedestal table circled by armless, leather-clad chairs from Holly Hunt shapes the breakfast area. Soft light from a mesmerizing tubular fixture dances around the casual eating space.

Calacatta marble backsplash is eye-catching with the randomness of the gray veins swirling throughout. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Clean, tailored, easy, functional and aesthetically stimulating,â&#x20AC;? says Sugerman of the culinary space outfitted with an 11-foot-long island inset with its very own Teppanyaki grill top. Leather-clad counter stools pull up to the breakfast bar, while casual dining continues in the adjacent breakfast area. Excellence is personified in the master bedroom styled with supple fabrics and soothing colors. To dramatize the private space, a textural wall covering from Phillip Jeffries alternates with sections of rift cut wood panels accented by blackened-steel fins. Lacquered cabinetry appears to float next to the custom leather-upholstered and oak detailed bed. In the spa-like master bath, a wet room with glass doors houses a freestanding Victoria + Albert tub. The custom shower enclosure with state-of-the-art technology features “Smart Glass” that transitions from translucent to opaque for privacy.
Dazzling lighting, luminous reflections and an exquisite blend of Calacatta Lincoln marble from Opustone wraps the master bath with elegance. “It’s an interplay of volume,” Loor Sugerman says. The spectacular boxed light fixture — an indigenous piece of the owners — dangles above with radiance. With a concept of connectivity to place, the home’s natural elements and unique characteristics unfold to tell its own dramatic story. “Unlike a lot of modern homes, this one has incredible soul,” Stofft says. The designers went to work removing interior walls, replacing exterior walls with windows and increasing the size of the house to over 6,200 square feet. To fill it, they turned to authentic 20th-century classics. “A lot of the furnishings that Ted and Julie used in our home have been around for years and years, but they still look entirely contemporary,” the wife says. In a master suite wrapped in Romo’s “Dreaming” shades of gray, a custom upholstered bed tucks behind the sun-filled sitting area. A “Barcelona Couch” looks out to Ligne Roset’s “Prado” sofa that joins simplistic chairs by Charles Pollock. The “Zeppelin” pendant by Dutch designer Marcel Wanders wows with its modern twist.
The living room opens into a streamlined kitchen, where the designers added a large picture window framing five Italian cypress trees. Sunlight bounces off the striking quartz design that lines the walls, shapes the 12-foot-long island, and grounds the culinary space. To make his-and-her private spaces for the couple, the designers partitioned the home’s original open living and dining areas into two smaller rooms. “The husband converted his into an office turned man cave,” Koran says. but I found it playful and fun,” she says. The husband opted for the comfortable custom sofa covered in plush velvet from Romo that colors the space in blue. Nearby, the master suite is an ethereal world where calm and quiet prevail. Windows frame a sitting area that overlooks the pool and gardens. “It’s like living in a cloud,” Koran says. The wife admits this is where she spends much of her time. And because the clients’ dog Minnie likes to keep her mistress company, the designers provided her a special spot all her own. “Ted and Julie filled our home with lots of little touches and special pieces,” the wife says. “And what they did made our living so much better.”

WHEN INTERIOR DESIGNER JACKIE ARMOUR FIRST VISITED
her clientsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; new home in Hobe Sound, Fla., she found a Bermuda-style villa with classic proportions situated on one of two adjoining properties they had purchased on the golf course in the private yachting and golf club community of Loblolly. Getting to know the couple, Armour learned that gutting and remaking the interior of the over 5,000-square-foot main house and 1,850-square-foot guesthouse was the easy part. The challenge was to take heirlooms and some of the existing furnishings as well as a glass collection from the ownersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; Jupiter Island home and combine them with newly

“My goal was to use the beautiful antique heirlooms, but make them look fresh and current,” interior designer Jackie Armour says. “Then I placed them against a backdrop that would create a space the owners could embrace every day.”
curated pieces. “The clients were bringing a lot of darker antique and gold-finished pieces and so the objective for me was to make them fit a more casual Florida lifestyle,” Armour says. They wanted a welcoming space for visiting grown children with grandchildren. “When you step into the foyer, there are a lot of things happening that keep you visually entertained,” Armour says. The treatment of the mahogany front door is one of her design coups. Finding that door dark and overbearing, the designer wanted to lighten it yet emphasize the masterful molding she’d added. “I thought we should paint the door a really great shade of blue and the owners loved the idea.” After considering a few paint samples, the design deed was done. This small yet stately space incorporates an heirloom antique chest without it feeling heavy or out of place. A soft color palette takes flight in the living room, where an artistic focal piece, Great Blue Herons by artist Guy Coheleach, provides inspiration perched above the limestone fireplace. ABOVE :

This artwork was one of the few pieces the clients decided to retain after purchasing the villa furnished. A graceful wingback chair, refurbished in a pale blue-gray silk, sits center stage in the hearthside social grouping. Because the client likes to entertain, the custom built-ins capped with antique mirrors feature doors that fold back and pocket to expose a full bar and large screen television. But when the couple wants to kick back, they often relax in the den. The newly acquired acrylic abstract entitled Ocean’s Apart by artist Carol Benson-Cobb is a strong visual statement. “I love the contrast of this painting against everything that is soft in this space,” Armour says. An heirloom mahogany dining table makes quite the statement in the dining room. But to keep things light, Armour refreshed the chairs by painting them white and adding

a taupe-gray glaze. Then she reupholstered the host and side chairs with complementary Rogers & Goffigon linens. A chair rail and organic ceiling molding define the space that is set between two galleries. “I wanted the dining room to have identity instead of just being a ‘pass-through’ area,” the designer says. Armour designed the kitchen to entice and welcome. With the heart of the home open to the living room, only a slight shift is needed to draw culinary aficionados into any party. A center prep station makes it easy to serve light meals at the breakfast bar. ABOVE : The guesthouse comes with its own private loggia. The glass table with a heavy stone base is one of the few pieces that came with the villa that Armour was able to include in her fresh design. Pendants by Troy Lighting keep the table and Lee Industries’ chairs glowing after dark. Nearby, a split-face marble fireplace is ready to light.

“It’s much more challenging when you have to work within parameters,” Armour says. “But it can also be much more rewarding.”
But the hosts don’t have to do all the cooking when family and friends visit. Guests who want a little privacy can prepare their own meals in the guesthouse to enjoy on the private loggia. And after dinner, grandchildren might join their grandparents on the veranda of the main house for a twilight swim or calming dip in the spa. Having achieved her goal of seamlessly melding the old with the new to provide a space to comfortably entertain, Armour gives credit to her clients. “I think these homeowners had a strong vision and very, very good taste that helped me make this project a great success,” she says. Pure white walls turn the stairway into a floating Escher-scape. Outside, Ipe wood from Brazil, stucco, and miles and miles of glass are the perfect foils for its understated simplicity and the dramatic vistas that surround the house.
RAISED IN PERU AND EDUCATED IN BRITISH BOARDING SCHOOLS,
the owner, and his wife, who describes herself as a “Virginia country girl,” had long maintained their primary residence on New York’s Upper Eastside. They were comfortable and happy. And then, as she stepped onto the rooftop expanse of an 11,000-square-foot Bridgehampton tri-level already in progress, she experienced an instantaneous connection. Not really interested in beaches, the Hamptons, or even owning a house, she gazed at the views over Mecox Bay, Sam’s Creek and the Atlantic Ocean, and exclaimed, “I think we’ve just bought a deck” — and the house that goes with it. ABOVE : In the great room, a custom sectional sofa and armchairs designed by designer Steven La Fonte shape a versatile social area, where a four-quadrant rift white oak cocktail table can separate to move closer to the seating. An oversized lounge chair clad in chenille from Donghia completes the setting atop a silk area rug from ABC Carpet.

Overlooking the pool and art studio, with the bay and ocean surf beyond, light meals enjoyed around the breakfast area’s custom oak table could be the highlight of the day.
Set on two acres of natural landscaping, and still only a grand but unadorned shell, the owners would go on to work with Paolino Development, architect Mehran Talaie, and Miami-based designer Steven La Fonte who unabashedly says this was “the most rewarding project” of his career. The modern home includes a private office, a home theater, two sets of glass-enclosed elevators, and at the far end of the pool and spa, a pool house and art studio. But first was translating the serenity the wife had experienced on the rooftop into the home’s interiors. It would be a collaboration of very like minds. La Fonte says that the couple most particularly, wanted “a quiet house.” The palette would be muted, casual and calm; few colors, few patterns, and it would strive for architectural tranquility.

The great room, styled in the coined color termed “greige,” features three joined but separate seating areas that can shift to take in the kaleidoscopic play of colors across the bay. Pale grays, beiges and whitewashed woods blend in a sandy backdrop to the panoply of colors beyond. A glassed fireplace divides the 30-foot room, where accent pillows provide a touch of drama in Romo’s poppy-red velvet.
ABOVE : The breakfast area flows into the kitchen, where white satin-finished cabinets from Ciuffo Cabinetry line the culinary space. Cerused oak frames the cabinetry in the open area, while an 8-burner stove from Ferguson Enterprises and a custom-designed hood turn efficiency into beachfront beauty.

Who wouldn’t want to create art in such a private and vast studio — a full floor of space, natural light and inspiration? The owners have come to know other Hamptons artists as friends and showcase their work inside where possible.
With entry on ground level, bedrooms on the second tier, a third level for all main living areas, kitchen and dining, and finally, a rooftop garden, the stairway makes its own respective and dramatic statement. Balustrades of glass, oak and dark bronze-supports present the stairwell as grand sculpture in complement to the geometry of a blue piece by artist Mel Kendrick that dots the wall. La Fonte and the owners were careful to choose art pieces by local Hamptons artists whom they’ve come to know and support. “Since the owners purchased the home as it was being built, we were afforded the opportunity to be part of the cabinetry and finish selection throughout,” La Fonte says. In the kitchen, a white-glass waterfall island overlooks the breakfast area’s “greige” custom-finished oak dining table. The angular frames around shelving and a serving-console are of dark, cerused oak and resonate with a small window bench positioned to make the two rooms one space with vistas that sweep toward the Atlantic Ocean.

Serenity is induced by the setting, the architecture, and the soft play of textures and color that complete the design. Certainly nothing more is needed … with the possible exception of a glass of champagne at sunset.
The master bedroom captures yet another view from the tall four-poster bed. Flanked by glistening chrome lamps, it matches the La Fonte-designed bedside tables, chest and bench in white satin oak. Seeming to flow into the custom-colored oak flooring, ABC Carpets’ silk area rug bespeaks simplicity. Nearby, the master bath with its own picturesque views is a place of leisure and renewal. With a vanity of multiple exotic veneers, La Fonte incorporated a tufted stool into the ensemble. At the far end of the pool, lies any artist’s dream — a private studio. As with Monet, the light and seasons bring constant change and it is here that the wife comes to find her muse. While abstracts are her expressive choice, the setting sets her senses free. “We still go to our place in the city, but here is where we live,” the husband says. From poolside, where bright orange stripes in pillows and towels demand a smile, to kayaking on the creek and paddle boarding on the bay, activities blend with the comforts of a place of warmth, a place the owners now call home.
