INSIDE THIS SPRING ISSUE of Florida Design we explore a number of seasonal getaways and sprawling estates that assume the unique characteristics of their natural locales through exotic woods, fabrics and furnishings, and organic palettes inspired by Mother Nature. The Gulf Coast of Florida sets the scene for a 10,300-square-foot Florida Modern home in Naples. Interior designer Tara Bates along with her husband developer James Bates, joined forces with architect Gerald Yurk to create one couple’s contemporary home that is about convenience, love of art and a deep affection for nature. When it came time for the renowned builder Rial Jones to downsize, he turned to the team at Marc-Michaels Interior Design to help style his own smaller 5,500-square-foot home in an upscale enclave of Windermere known for its winding streams, tropically landscaped ponds and mature vegetation. He chose a contemporary design with an open floor plan, and bigger windows and doors to bring the outside in. Just down the Florida coastline, interior designer Carmen Alcaraz Gomes styled her own exquisite 4,400-square-foot condominium in one of the two iconic twisted towers of Grove at Grand Bay in Coconut Grove with a nod toward nature. From the entry that excites with a vertical moss garden to walls of glass that appear to turn while capturing panoramic views of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean, this relaxing retreat does not disappoint. As we say goodbye to the winter months and once again welcome the coming spring and summer seasons, we invite you to revel in the warmth of the tropics as you catch a glimpse inside these beautiful homes.◆ Kim Mosley, Executive Editor

Immaculate rectangles define the contemporary home that combines the spatial illusion of two-story modern Florida design with the convenience of one-story living. Isaacson Landscape Architecture Group continues the theme with exquisitely manicured gardens.
FROM THE OUTSIDE, THE SOARING RESIDENCE IN EXCLUSIVE Aqualane Shores, near downtown Naples, Fla., could be a contemporary two or three-story head-turner. In a neighborhood of traditional structures, only one or two have embraced the geometry of white rectangles. But the balanced scale and proportioned symmetry have allowed it to tastefully bring the future to bear. And inside, it is indeed stunning. Arranged on one convenient level, its 10,300 square feet of under-roof living is designed for someone who will stay a long time or someone whose access to water is paramount. Interior designer Tara Bates and her husband, developer James Bates, helped their client from the razing of an existing house to the completion of this Florida-modern residence two years later. option to install an automotive lift in a bay of its three-car garage, and innovative construction which extends the back deck out and over a spring-fed lake are but a few of the unique elements in a home that is about convenience, love of art and a deep affection for nature. “Designing a contemporary residence with white as the predominant backdrop is not the challenge it may seem — in fact, I find minimalist projects calming,” Tara says. “With spare design and decor, the details become all important. Textures and finishes stand out.” The attention to balance and decorative character becomes immediately evident from the front door faced with textured Italian porcelain tiles from Oikos Synva and entry flooring of volcanic limestone by Walker Zanger that continues through to the main social spaces. Bates divided the main living area into two conversation groupings, one focused around the fireplace, the other facing the deck and sparkling fountain that erupts from the lake beyond. With 30-foot-high ceilings edged with clearstory windows, LEFT: Ligne Roset sofas, a teak cocktail table and Roche Bobois’ accent table between Arne Jacobson-style “Egg Chairs” add a solid weight and smooth texture, which hold their own in the living area already outfit with dramatic statements. Narrow floor lamps in white direct the eye upward without obstructing the view.

light floods onto low-profile sofas covered in a flecked ecru weave. A teak cocktail table sets a casual tone, while “Egg Chairs” in a wool flannel add an ergonomic touch. Beyond the sofa table and brilliant blue vase, four white armchairs covered in soft Elmo leather shape another comfortable grouping. Balance reigns in the kitchen and dining area that combine spare lines with an explosion of color. Sleek Poggenpohl cabinetry wraps the kitchen in soft gray beach-like hues, while molded island stools provide comfortable perches for kitchen helpers. “I like everything to be hidden … no clutter,” says the designer in reference to the streamlined space. Without interrupting kitchen conversation, a glass-topped dining table and pearl-colored chairs sit mere steps away. Tara introduced an explosion of color along the gallery-like hallway overlooking the lake. The vivid lithographs from Art Gallery Modern merit more than a perfunctory glance with their abstract complexity.

The master suite, seemingly spare, is an example of efficient design. A “floor chaise” is clad in a tight houndstooth topped with soft leather-covered cushions. A streamlined bed with its Lucite support appears to float from gray wrap-around leather that morphs into delicate bedside stands. At night, for whimsy and convenience, the under parts of the bed are illuminated, emphasizing a dreamy, air-borne illusion. Both the master and the guest suites have baths streamlined in white. With floating vanities and textured tile wall coverings from Porcelanosa, the true integrity of artisan-crafted construction is vital. Amid the suggestion of waves, the monochromatic bath becomes a sensual space when textures are carefully curated. In the guest suite, Tara boldly introduces a brilliant, but unsigned work from Art Gallery Modern depicting a tropical island replete with sailboats and sunbathers in gaudy suits. Another suspended bed sports perky blue accent pillows from Clive Daniel Home.

A simple slate reigns in the master suite with its own soaring ceiling. Stainless steel balls hover above the Casa Italia “Wing” bed like intergalactic spheres, while a sunny yellow, unsigned homage to artist Mark Rothko brightly beams.

The lanai sits beneath a built-in pergola, while Resysta-faced soffits are angled to accommodate view and sun-intrusion. Made of rice husks, salt and mineral oil, Resysta, here called, “Burma,” shapes the deck to blend seamlessly with the volcanic stone at the pool’s edge. Casa Italia’s chaise lounges recline beneath Tuuci umbrellas.
Outside, a 50-foot-long lap pool caches a sunken spa at one end, both lined in shimmering glass tiles. “The swimming pool is remarkable,” Tara says. But the property’s focus on water doesn’t stop there … it extends beyond. “The owner wanted to feel that the house was a part of the surrounding nature and the lake itself.” In order to do that, 248 pilings were driven to support the cantilevered structure that extends out and over the water. A glass balustrade makes sure the view with its fountain and the bespoke arrangement of specially chosen trees is never impeded. The end result: convenience, fantasy, and elegant living.

Interior designer Brianna M. Sheehan balanced function and aesthetics in the home’s design. “Our goal was to create a unique home that reflected our creativity, but would also appeal to any future owners,” she says.
INTERIOR DESIGNER BRIANNA Sheehan and her husband, builder and developer Ryan Sheehan, have had more than a few new beginnings in recent years, and all in fairy tale order. First, a wedding; second, a new home, designed and built by the couple themselves; and third, the birth of their son. It took six months to design and another 10 months to build this 4,000-square-foot urban farmhouse situated on a corner lot in Maitland, Fla. The surroundings are quaint and quiet, but nearby to shops, restaurants and the farmers market. The exterior of the home is a conglomerate of finishes and textures such as shake, lap siding, board and batten, and steel trowel stucco. Ryan’s favorite outdoor element is the entrance tower cladded in Tennessee fieldstone. Inside, the living area reflects Brianna’s affinity for minimalism and casual elegance.

To create more of an urban as opposed to a rustic farmhouse feel in the kitchen, Brianna chose sleek white cabinetry from National Woodworks and a gleaming subway tile backsplash that deviates from tradition with more contemporary elongated lines.
To form an intimate seating area, an off-white linen-blend sofa from Bernhardt, mixes with Jessica Charles swivel armchairs and white linen-clad chairs. Just steps away is the dining area outfitted with a long, gray concrete table top that appears smooth and cool on a warm oak base. French doors open to the nearby summer kitchen, another dining option that appeals to the couple’s relaxed entertaining style. In the pristine white kitchen, simple Palecek counter stools pull up to a large island topped with natural quartzite that brings weight to the airy room. Overhead, Kichler pendants lend an ethereal feel. The contemporary custom stairway was designed by the couple. “We chose the glass railing because we wanted the natural light from the windows to filter down into the hallway unobstructed,” Brianna says. RIGHT: The couple had some difficulty matching the stain color of the stairway treads to the oak flooring so they decided to stain it themselves. With a spirited little boy in the house, cleverly designed storage cached under the stairway is essential.

In the tranquil master bath, Kohler’s freestanding tub anchors the space along with a chrome handshower, both from Ferguson. “It’s about feeling calm and being durable — something you can maintain easily as a homeowner,” Brianna says.
The master bath is created with a free-standing tub and brushed porcelain tile flooring. A vanity lends architectural interest with a floating honed Carrera marble top and a farmhouse chic, cast iron trough sink. In a word, the most dominant feature of the master bedroom is volume. A subtle yet sophisticated space furnished in a palette of white and gray, its ceilings vault to 18 feet and light abounds from high windows. A Hinkley chandelier adds just enough light and scale. Outdoors, a cypress wood canopy forms a cover over the patio’s dining table and rattan chairs. “Because of the lot size we had to get creative with the pool and backyard,” Ryan says. “We knew we were going to have a small yard no matter what we did, so we focused on making the most of what we had.”

The master bedroom is designed simply with a four-poster bed accented with two light-gray textured pillows and a white bedside table from Bungalow 5. Builder Ryan Sheehan custom designed and fabricated the room’s steel-plated barn doors that add to the urban farmhouse feel.

The couple created a playroom for their son utilizing a space that was originally meant to be a formal dining room. “Five months after moving in we found out that I was pregnant, so we made a quick change by adding custom wood and glass doors,” Brianna says. The whimsical design is fit for a little boy where the imagination can run free. This home suits the Sheehan family perfectly. “It was an incredible experience,” Ryan says. “Much of the process was very similar to what we go through when designing a home for a client, however, concerning ourselves with only what we favored made it a little more light-hearted.” ABOVE : On the patio, an aluminum table and wicker chairs are perfect for dining alfresco. The rectangular pool with a Tahoe blue pebble finish, is custom designed by Christopher Ryan Homes and fabricated by Adam Alstott of Tropical Pools. Gated for privacy, the lot proved challenging at times for the couple due to its irregular shape.

“This couple came to us with a unique vision, and we worked to turn it into a reality,” Harry says. “The goal for a home in this style — a California contemporary modern design — is to warm up the space, so we used different textures, wood, stone, relief, and moving water. Architecturally, we used flying rooflines, cantilevered beams and projected structural edging.“ Glass is the key component in this design by architect Pedro Infante. Every room is wrapped with glass walls or windows, allowing the ultimate integration with tranquil natural surroundings. A purely original build, the house emanates a true tropical, contemporary feel in complement to the modern temperate construction. Custom water features in the front and back create a seamless flow of internal-to-external energy. Step inside, where lead interior designer Helene Hollub along with colleague Patricia Salamin conceptualized the interior scheme with utmost respect to this carefully curated energy by using the finest textiles, warm earth tones and natural stone. “This is a modern minimalist home inspired by the breathtaking scenic garden views and vivid landscaping of the surrounding grounds,” Helene says. “We wanted to achieve a timeless look with a minimalist aesthetic, contemporary design, and modern architecture, while focusing on organic elements and Zen vibes.”

Handmade ceramic stone accents adorning the exterior add to the luxuriously organic essence that is carried throughout the house. A carefully designed pop of color in every room through bold artwork, vibrant fabrics, and intricate lighting fixtures carefully enhances the exterior views of each space. Visible from the living room, the patio exudes a green, earthy atmosphere and includes a custom-designed water feature made with sculptured stones simulating bamboo. In the living room, neutral tones and soft upholstered pieces create an inviting and livable space for family gatherings and entertaining. “We really use all the spaces, but our favorite space is the living room and bar area, where we can enjoy beautiful views of the garden, patio, pool, and landscaping,” the homeowner says. “We travel often, and we always look forward to returning home to relax with family and friends.” ABOVE :

Awash in tranquil shades of blue and layered with a mix of linens, velvets, silks and natural fabrics, the master bedroom exudes an atmosphere of serenity. The sitting area includes a blue velvet sofa from CFC Furniture, swivel chairs from Four Hands, and a white chest of drawers from Worlds Away.
In complementary contrast, the kitchen, with a more modern-minimalist feel, was designed in pure white with wood accents on the island and custom cabinetry. “This keeps the space warm and inviting,” Patricia says. “The juxtaposition of materials allows for a transition to modern-inspired, custom-designed lighting fixtures and high-tech integrated appliances.” The master bedroom uses blue tones for a continuous flow of serenity between the different levels of the home. The monochromatic lighting infuses a glow into the open, modern space. Panoramic views of the landscape and lush gardens below from the private balcony make this space a special retreat for the homeowners. Nearby, the luxurious master bath radiates a spa aesthetic with a freestanding tub, silk wall covering, and a wood-grain ceiling treatment.

“Our home is beyond compare — the views from our balcony highlight the amazing landscape and surrounding idyllic neighborhood, which is Florida living at its best,” the homeowner says. “We had a vision and the Hollub Homes design team seamlessly took control and made our vision a reality. Every single room is wrapped in floor-to-ceiling glass and the home has a beautiful positive energy.”
Architecturally complex to build, this project prompted Hollub to go above and beyond recommended Florida code. The house is all poured concrete, from the foundation to the roof. There are no wood structural supports or wood trusses, which proved to be a significant challenge for the engineers, given the complexity of the structure in a modern style. “Our home is truly one-of-a-kind,” the homeowner says. “The design team created a cohesive breathtaking sanctuary. The technology is top-tier and there are lots of little touches that really elevate our living experience.” BELOW :

Nestled in a grove of maple trees, this lakefront home is true to architect Charles Stinson’s contemporary prairie style. “Everything is connected to water and nature,” the architect says.
WITH A LOVE FOR ARCHITECTURE AND AN ERNEST DESIRE TO commission just the right team to design their new residence in Buffalo Lake, Minn., homeowners Nancy and Richard Dehmer knew there was no need to look any further upon meeting architect Charles Stinson on an AIA (American Institute of Architects) tour. “We hit it off right away,” Stinson says. Known for his timeless architectural style, and a distinct way of marrying the home and landscape together, Stinson worked with interior designer Kim Streeter and builder Kerry Hage to create this couple’s lakefront retreat.

Beautifully situated on 12 acres of scenic wooded property, the project commenced at ground zero, resulting in a sprawling 6,000-square-foot home that edges the rocky shore of Lake Martha. While Stinson’s signature prairie-style design with a strong modern influence was a success right out of the gate, the owners remained passionately involved every step of the way. Emphasizing definition and character, the metal slat roof is expressive and the Chilton and Fon Du Lac stone columns — a tailored blend of warm tones and grays — are organic and striking. “They define the floor-to-ceiling glass walls in between,” the architect says. Spanning the entire length of the home and beyond is a deck with an airplane wire railing that creates a floating effect while allowing the house to open up to nature. Inside, Stinson created a flowing space with windows lining the back and a cedar ceiling topping clerestory glass to draw in natural light. Neutral and natural durable materials fill the home, where Streeter carefully selected furnishings to let nature be the main focus. ABOVE : A custom maple credenza lines the dining area, where an iron chandelier from Hubbardton Forge glows above the table that seats a party of eight or separates into two tables for game night. Blues dining chairs and island barstools from Abitare go hand-in-hand, while maple reappears in the open kitchen to shape Boyd’s custom cabinetry topped in Cambria’s natural stone from Innovative Surfaces.

Inside, a custom bed with its acoustical paneled headboard centers the private space, while a classic Eames lounge chair and ottoman — a “must keep” from the owners’ collection — corners the space in timeless elegance. An organic palette continues in the master bath with a shower wall of Ann Sacks hi-lo contrasting, iridescent pencil tiles. “I love the reflective quality it displays,” interior designer Kim Streeter says.
Echoing all of the natural tones found in the two-sided stone fireplace that is stacked up three stories high, the second-level great room welcomes with a comfortable hearthside social grouping in the living area. “The organic interior palette strikes harmony and balance rather than competing with outside elements,” Streeter says. Textures and finishes with movement were carefully chosen to draw the eye naturally and gently through the space to the dining area, kitchen and captivating lake views beyond. “We wanted one area for living, dining and cooking, a place to get together and to stay together,” Stinson says. create a flawless and smooth look, while glass railings with maple handrails give way to the spacious lower level. Maple makes its way into the master suite, where natural display shelving speaks to the overall vibe of the home. The custom bed appears to float center stage, while glass doors slide open to the private balcony beyond. A modern appeal flows into the master bath styled with cedar panels to continue the sense of serenity. With natural materials throughout the home, rich texture play and the creative use of light, Stinson and Streeter brought this couple’s dream home to life — a year-round retreat filled with the beauty of nature both inside and out.◆

Owner/builder Rial Jones styled the exterior of his new home to feel contemporary with the careful placement of windows and the awning over the front door. But to help the home fit into the neighborhood, he chose a more traditional roofline.
FOR THE PAST 15 YEARS, RIAL JONES, AN AWARD-WINNING BUILDER in the Orlando area for almost 35 years, lived in a palatial home that he built at “the height of heavy Mediterranean styling when it seemed that every house we worked on had one more layer of molding and one more wall of gold leaf.� Now, with his son and daughter grown, he decided that house was too big. So, for his smaller residence in Windermere, Fla., a 5,500-square-foot home set on a quarter-acre in an upscale community known for its winding streams, tropically landscaped ponds and mature vegetation, he chose a contemporary style with an open floor plan and clean lines, including bigger windows and doors.

For help with this new endeavor, he turned to Marc-Michaels Interior Design, his go-to design firm for work on spec homes as well as private client’s residences. “The design of his home went smoothly because we work well together,” senior project manager Jessica Lee says. “Although this home has a modern edge, it fits into this traditional community. Vibrant blues found in the art and accent pillows pop against the European oak flooring and neutral finishes in the spacious living room. While fire pits enhance the pool area, the loggia’s “Swell” pendants by Pablo Lighting seamlessly blend the line between indoors and out. “I thought it was different and unexpected,” Lee says.
Carefully selected design elements create a sense of space in the great room. The family room’s high-gloss wall unit designed with a stained wood shelf and base cabinetry works well with the dropped, stained European oak ceiling that delineates the dining area. The 12-foot-high ceiling is covered with woven grass cloth that has a metallic thread to add sparkle, while RH Modern’s polished-nickel “Aquitaine Linear” chandelier casts a soft glow. “We knew this fixture wasn’t going to cast a lot of light and it doesn’t need to,” Lee says, who chose it for its scale and definition. Step outside to the summer kitchen, the owner’s favorite space to relax and rustle up meals on the grill to enjoy with family and friends. “I’d much rather cook out here than bang around in the kitchen,” he says. On evenings when there’s a chill in the air, the custom-designed firepits add a touch of warmth to the pool area. “I feel we delivered a beautiful home that our client loves and feels proud to share with friends,” senior designer Molly Walker says. “Here, he’s able to live comfortably but still show it off from time to time.”

he Fountain House, a Mediterranean-style home along the Intracoastal Waterway in West Palm Beach’s desirable South of Southern neighborhood, played host to Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach. This highly anticipated event serves as a showcase for the artistry of 22 of the nation’s most talented interior design firms. “We entertain a great deal in our home, including Shabbat,” interior designer Carmen Alcaraz Gomes says. “We wanted to keep the design simple and uncluttered for our guests as well as for ourselves.”
AFTER DESIGNING HOMES FOR HER MYRIAD OF CLIENTS, interior designer Carmen Alcaraz Gomes turned a creative eye to her own condo on the 12th floor in one of the two iconic twisted towers of Grove at Grand Bay in Coconut Grove, Fla. She was excited to personalize the 4,400-square-foot space that she and her husband Daniel Berrebi, along with the youngest of their six children, were eager to call home. “We picked this beautiful building because all of the rooms face the spectacular ocean views,” Gomes says.

In the dining area, Moooi’s spider-like “Dear Ingo” chandelier by Ron Gilard sparks interest above the glass-topped table lined with shapely leather-clad chairs from Poltrona Frau.
Gomes faced immediate challenges as she began to design her home in the twisting glass tower that appears to turn as it capture panoramic views of Biscayne Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. The condo surprises with lofty 12-foot-high ceilings, expansive walls of glass, deep terraces and about 10 columns spread among various rooms. Nowhere are these details more impressive than in the main social areas, where the towering columns and architectural illusions command attention. Just beyond an entry that excites with the designer’s interpretation of a vertical moss garden, a palette of white

walls and Calacatta marble flooring provide a graceful canvas for minimalist furnishings that allows the eye to focus on both the breathtaking vistas and dramatic architectural elements. Crafted of brushed metal and wrapped with Italian hexagon mosaics, the first column makes a big statement in the living area as it leans in perfect complement towards a splashy, contemporary canvas by Brazilian artist Jotape. “I designed the column to look like art while keeping the rest of the interior scheme monochromatic with gray accents to echo nature,” the designer says. “The ocean had to be the main focal point.” Gomes repeated the mosaic column in the dining area, where gatherings become ethereal experiences as natural light washes over the all-white space during the day, and

In the breakfast area, “Aim” pendants from Flos yield a gallerylike character above Kartell’s reflective dining table and Kubikoff “Dimple” side chairs in white. With a touch of whimsy, a Dodo bird visits New York in the striking and colorful canvas by a South Korean artist. A simple floral arrangement completes the scene.
the clear night sky offers an ever-changing display of twinkling stars in the evening. A vertically recessed white-lacquer panel backs the horizontal “Labyrinth” sideboard to add contrasting visual excitement to the linear space. Here, a glass-topped dining table easily seats a party of 10, while a silver bench sits nearby to provide the perfect perch to watch glorious sunsets over the water. Although Gomes readily admits her husband does the cooking, she loves the look of her contemporary kitchen beginning with the dominant center island topped in Calacatta marble. Designed to combine style with ease-of-care, this casual culinary space is lined with both dark wood and light-beige lacquer cabinetry that houses top-of-the-line Miele

In the master bedroom, stunning walnut paneling evokes both intimacy and elegance to create the peaceful ambiance Gomes desires for relaxation. “In between the two wood levels, I placed a niche of LED lighting,” the designer says. “I also used a simple sheer fabric for the drapery so we can see the ocean.” Outside, the balcony is designed to be calm, modern and practical with an exhilarating shipboard view of the Coconut Grove Marina. A: My parents had their home built by a local
developer when I was in 5th grade. I became very curious and intrigued by the construction process. Consequently, during my high school and college tenure, I was given the opportunity to intern with the same company who built my parent’s home.
Q: Did you have any schooling or mentoring? A: I graduated from the M.E. Rinker Sr. School
of Building Construction at the University of Florida (Go Gators). I have been, and continue to receive mentorship from several industry leading builders and professionals whom I truly admire, and am grateful for their willingness to guide and instruct me.
Q: What’s your company philosophy? A: Qualified. Approachable. Distinct. Aside from
our processes and approach, the overarching distinction is our willingness to go the extra mile so we can consistently exceed expectations. It’s not just about getting to the finish line, it’s about each step it takes to get there.
Q: How do you define a custom experience? A: We start by building a solid relationship,
aligning our interests with those of our clients, even prioritizing them above our own. My team empowers our clients with the knowledge and resources required for meaningful and effective participation. We practice full transparency and always strive to optimize value.

INTERIOR DESIGNER AARON TABER, WITH THE ASSISTANCE OF colleague Jarett Beckman, designed and completed a full interior renovation of this 5,000-square-foot L’Hermitage penthouse in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., with an elegant and sophisticated scheme enveloped in comfort. “We wanted a good flow for entertaining, transitional styling and a color palette that maximizes the ocean views,” the homeowner says. “Also, since we live in a beach community, we wanted our condominium to be comfortable.” The design team chose tasteful furnishings and luxurious fabrics with textural undertones. “Using pale taupe, off-white, hints of aqua, and sea glass hues, we kept it neutral and light, with finishes in warm natural walnut and platinum accents,” Taber says.

“We didn’t want to take away from the backdrop of what nature created, but we wanted the look to be sophisticated and soft,” interior designer Aaron Taber says.
Emanating elegance and ease, the dining room is furnished with a double pedestal table in natural walnut, paired with traditional oval-back walnut chairs, covered in an embroidered Kravet fabric in platinum and ivory. For light, a half-wall separates the dining area from the vestibule, and on both sides, Hickory Chair demilune consoles, inset with platinum detailing, create mirror images. A pass-through to the kitchen allows for easy entertaining, but its translucent glass pocket doors can be closed for more formal parties. Light and bright, the linear space features custom, transitional-style Shaker cabinetry painted white, and stunning views of the ocean beyond. Delineating the main social spaces, the designers created lighted drop-ceiling details. The well-appointed living room feels as tranquil and soft as a gentle ocean breeze. For continuity, flooring is platinum marble; walls are painted a soft shade of oyster; and aqua is used as an accent color. “For contrast, we chose the console with a dark walnut case and a whimsical wood inlay over églomisé mirror insets,” Taber says. ABOVE : Custom-designed Shaker-style cabinetry features Marble of the World’s book-matched granite countertops and a backsplash with aqua and caramel striations. Hickory Chair’s counter stools pull up to a center island finished in walnut and topped with Cristallo quartzite. A stainless steel Wolf hood completes the space.

“We wanted a little drama in the master bedroom, where the details of the John-Richard chandelier include silk-moray shades and crystal teardrops,” Taber says. “It looks like a starry night.”

The master bedroom, however, transitions to deeper and darker tones, with a rich walnut flooring and aqua as the dominant color. Incorporating curves, the sculptural shape of the upholstered headboard echoes the organic silhouettes of the Venetian mirrors over the bedside chests. In the sitting area, the tufted linen-clad sofa joins high-backed chairs covered in chenille and the oval glass-topped cocktail table with a platinum-finished frame. “We used curves because we wanted everything to be natural and fluid, and we liked the sweeping walnut lines of the occasional table.” Taber says. “It’s transitional but not overly done.” The clients were pleased with the end result: a home that gives them the feeling and lifestyle they desired. “We were able to create the home that our clients dreamed of ... and when that’s accomplished, I could not ask to be in a better profession,” Taber says.
