Live well
Idon’t know about y’all, but as season winds down I have one thing on my mind: It’s time to escape! I’m looking forward to taking some time to recharge my batteries, and while that means something different to everyone, for me it means planning a short getaway or two to unwind and relax—preferably in nature.
When I was editing Tracy Marcello’s feature on some of the top wellness escapes in the area (“Relax, Recharge, Retreat!”), I was immediately wowed by the Deep Healing Woods Retreat at Blackberry Farm in Tennessee. The four-day retreat is all about reaping the benefits of nature on its 4,200-acre property, with yoga and meditation in the woods, foraging hikes, and delicious farm-to-table meals. Definitely sounds like my cup of tea! Read more about it—along with three more wellness retreats that are located right here in Florida— starting on page 24.
In our Radar section (page 15), we introduce you to Palm City resident Karla Merrell, a motivational speaker who is on a mission to help local women over 40 reach their full potential. Merrell started Growth Circle, which is a runners’ group that provides both training and support to Treasure Coast women who want to run their first 5K. We also take you inside Stuart’s Spirit Well Sensory Lounge, a unique space downtown that offers a slew of sensory-based wellness treatments like aromatherapy, sound healing, energy work, and more.
In honor of Father’s Day June 18, we had a lot of fun talking to local men who were inspired by their dads’ passions and decided to follow in their footsteps. Get to know our cover stars—PGA pro Bob Baldassari and his son, Robert, an assistant pro at Willoughby Golf Club—and four more dad/son duos in “Like Father, Like Son,” beginning on page 32. Lastly, I want to put the word out that we are nearing the end of our search for our annual Ones to Watch candidates, which will be featured in the September issue. We launched OTW last year, and the hunt for 2023’s list is on! Learn more about what we are looking for and nominate someone (or yourself!) by visiting stuartmagazine.com/onestowatch
Peace and blessings,

Michelle Lee RibeiroTime for YOU
Every year, Stuart Magazine turns its focus to wellness for the May/June issue, as we are all more than ready for a little self-care and rest after the hustle and bustle of season. It’s all about slowing down a bit, making time for loved ones and friends, or planning a much-needed getaway. Wellness expresses itself in many ways—from relaxing at home or enjoying a spa day to taking off for a few days for a pampering respite. This year, for me, it was the latter.
So many of us get stuck in the daily grind, and we don’t pay enough attention to our own needs. And as we all know, we’re not very effective at caring for others when we neglect ourselves. Recently, I decided it was time to look after myself, so my husband and I planned a fantastic trip to the Bahamas with some dear friends. Breathing in the clean salt air, swimming in the aquamarine waters, relaxing on the beach, and enjoying delicious meals and a ton of laughs was just what the doctor ordered!
We had five days of pure bliss while I turned on my “out of office” (something I rarely do), which was a must for me to be fully present and truly benefit from this time away. It was a quick break that fit perfectly into our busy schedules, and though our next travels won’t be until later this summer, this trip has recharged us. That’s really what self-care is all about—and why it’s an important part of any wellness plan. Lucky for us, we live in South Florida with an abundance of tranquil beaches that make fantastic spots for quick escapes. I hope you take advantage of our home for your own reset and refresh.
Looking forward to the July/August double issue, we will have a special advertising section called Summer Escapes and Staycations, where local businesses can share their summer ideas. I welcome anyone interested in advertising to reach out to me so I can provide more details. And don’t miss the Private Education Guide and the Home Resource Guide to help plan for next year’s school year and summer home renovations.
As the season winds down, I urge you to spend some time doing something you have not done in a while. Health and happiness are our wealth, so take care of yourself and the rest will take care of itself.
Please enjoy this issue and continue to visit stuartmagazine.com, where you can sign up for our Insider’s Guide weekly newsletter to keep up with current events and news. Be sure to also check out the Flavor dining guide, as well as promotional medical profiles of some of the best physicians in the area—both inside this issue. We will soon be launching a new special advertising section, Martin and St. Lucie Luxury Home, which several real estate agents have reached out to me about already. If you are interested in learning more about it, don’t hesitate to email me. I look forward to continuing to support our local community and businesses.
Thank you for your readership!

When ancient Mayans needed to rest, they would gather at the cenote, a natural pit of water known as the spirit well. Martin County residents can enjoy a cenote of their own at Spirit Well Sensory Lounge.
A collective of practitioners providing a variety of wellness offerings, Spirit Well Sensory Lounge opened on Colorado Avenue in Stuart in April 2022. The center’s services are divided by the five senses and include practices like chiropractic massage, red light therapy, aromatherapy, Healy diagnostics, sound healing, craniosacral therapy, energy work, hypnosis, life coaching, and more. “We wanted to expand the concept of a healing center to make it accessible to everyone,” says cofounder Tracey Etelson, a quantum healing hypnosis practitioner. “The sensory lounge provides experiences for every type of person.”
Spirit Well also features a lounge with a tonic bar focused on Ayurvedic and herbal wellness drinks, as well as weekly classes on a variety of topics to bring the community together. “It’s our personal and professional mission to live in a state of unconditional love, nonjudgment, and acceptance,” cofounder Stephanie Lipp says. “We hope to make a difference in the health and well-being of every single person who walks in the door.”
Memberships are available for a monthly fee ($50-$75), while nonmembers can take advantage of services for a per-session fee.

Growing Stronger
A runners’ group in Palm City inspires women to lace up and overcome mental barriers
Karla Merrell is on a mission. The Palm City resident wants to help women tap into their inner strength and do what they may feel is the impossible: run their first 5K.
A professional motivational speaker, Merrell is the founder of Growth Circle, a Treasure Coast running group that provides women who don’t consider themselves to be runners with training and support so they can compete. The group— which focuses on women over 40 but is open to all ages—meets on Monday evenings for an hour at the Palm City Presbyterian Church, with an optional run on Saturday mornings. For eight weeks, the group trains together, allowing 30 minutes each week for supportive conversation and accountability.
“On the application to join the group, I ask what you’re looking to gain, and I always see the same answers about losing weight, eating healthier, and improving stamina,” Merrell says. “On the first day [of training], I write all of their answers on a big board and hope to make everyone understand that the undertone of their goals is actually about discipline and consistency. These women join because they want to believe in themselves.”
Merrell began her own running journey in April 2021 and has since completed multiple 5Ks, 10Ks, and half-marathons. Exactly one year after she began running, she founded Growth Circle and has since inspired dozens of women to develop a “growth” mindset in all areas of their lives.
“When women cross that finish line, they’re also crossing over their own mental barriers,” says Merrell. “After the race, they end up thinking to themselves, ‘What else can I do?’”
Growth Circle’s next eight-week session kicks off September 18, 2023 and will focus on training for a local Turkey Trot. The cost is $80. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis at karlamerrell.com/growthcircle.

Bloom Doom
Blue-green algae, red tides, and our waters—what does it all mean?
by HOLLY MARTINEZIt has become a predictable summer scourge…. One day the ocean waves are blue and the rivers clear, and the next our beautiful waters are murky and unenticing. The culprit: floating algae.
We hear about harmful algal blooms (HABS) often, but what are they really? And are they safe to swim in? We asked James Sullivan, executive director of Florida Atlantic University’s Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute and an expert on algae and HABS, to fill us in.
According to Sullivan, HABS occur when algae—plant-like organisms that live in fresh water as well as the ocean—grow out of control and produce damaging toxins that are unhealthy for both marine life and humans. “The blue-green algae Floridians mostly worry about is freshwater algae that comes from ponds, lakes, and reservoirs like Lake Okeechobee and enters salt water through runoff,” says Sullivan. “When the algae get mixed into high-salinity water, they will essentially die and burst, releasing toxins into the water.”
When masses of algae die and release toxins, it depletes the oxygen in water, in turn killing off animal species or forcing them to leave the affected waters. These toxins can also aerosolize, creating a microcystin, which carries an odor and can adhere to humans’ nasal passages.
For humans, the effects of exposure are still not clear. “We need more research to understand what the low-level chronic effects of being exposed are,” says Sullivan, who also serves on Florida’s Blue-Green Algae Task Force. “Exposure doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll get sick, but you should still avoid the water when a bloom is happening.” Pets should stay away from the water too, he notes.
Red tides, which you’ve probably
also heard about, are more prevalent on Florida’s west coast. The naturally occurring algae that create red tides mostly come from the Gulf of Mexico and tend to stay on that side of the state, explains Sullivan. “It’s been blooming in Florida waters for hundreds of years,” he says. fau.edu/hboi
THE GOOD FIGHT
What is the Blue-Green Algae Task Force?
The task force created by Governor Ron DeSantis a few years ago aids the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in protecting, conserving, and managing the state’s natural resources. Its main goal is to restore Florida’s water bodies that have been adversely affected by blue-green algal blooms. The group works on identifying algae, nutrient reduction, and remediation efforts and are tasked with providing the DEP with recommendations for both
preventing harmful blooms and cleaning them up. “We on the task force always harp on the fact that communication is key,” says member James Sullivan. “People need to know what's going on in their neighborhood and water.”
To keep up with the latest findings and more, visit protectingfloridatogether.gov, an online portal that offers transparent data on current water quality, blue-green algae, and red tides.

FORMER GUIDING LIGHT SOAP STAR TINA SLOAN TURNED HER REAL-LIFE CLIFF-HANGER INTO AN OPPORTUNITY TO REINVENT HERSELF AS A ROMANCE NOVELIST
by PAIGE FEIGENBAUMCliff-hangers are a constant theme for Hobe Sound resident Tina Sloan, the actress best known for her 26-year stint as nurse Lillian Raines on the long-running CBS soap opera Guiding Light
As soap fans are fully aware, the television genre is all about leaving viewers hanging after each daily episode. And when the show was canceled in 2009 after 57 years on the air, Sloan found herself facing a cliff-hanger of her own: She was a 60-year-old actress at a time
when there were not many roles for women her age.
She decided, why not write a book? In 2010, she penned her first—an autobiography titled Changing Shoes She also launched a one-woman show to go along with it, touring the country including stops in South Florida in Jupiter, Stuart, and Palm Beach. The play took audiences on a “walk” through the different stages of Sloan’s life, as the actress changed her shoes throughout the performance to correlate with each
story she was telling.
“For example, at one point [in the show], I was climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and I had on pink boots,” explains Sloan. “Or if I was running a marathon, I’d put on running shoes. I wore beautiful high heels at the beginning, and then as I was getting older, I went into the black flats.”
Changing Shoes kept her busy for a decade before it was time to move on to yet another new chapter. Springing from a dream she’d had years before, she decided to give romance fiction a try and, in 2020, she self-published her debut novel, Chasing Cleopatra. The sequel, Chasing Othello, followed in 2022. “Having been on a soap opera, I knew how to write cliff-hangers, sexy scenes, undercover things, and people coming back from the dead,” says Sloan of the books’ story lines. “Readers have said that after about two chapters, they just couldn’t put it down, which is nice to hear.”
Her novels offer some super steamy scenes that leave readers blushing. Sloan recalls a moment when she was having her blood pressure taken, and the nurse told her she now looks at Sloan’s husband differently after having read the books. “I almost fell off the seat!” says the writer.
Rounding out the trilogy, Chasing Czars
is set to publish this summer, and an onscreen adaptation of Chasing Cleopatra is in the works. Sloan dreams of casting Angelina Jolie as the film’s lead. “I wrote a scene for myself as her mother,” she says.
The octogenarian (she turned 80 in February) shows no signs of slowing down. She and her 85-year-old husband, Steve, love to travel the world—they have summered in Paris, will spend this off-season in England, and have trips to Israel, Jordan, and Egypt on the horizon. The two have been married for nearly 50 years and share a son and three young grandchildren who live in Tennessee, as well as two more children from Steve’s previous relationship.
Sloan’s life here at home in Hobe Sound is just as active. She plays croquet with friends twice a week, enjoys daily walks, boating, participating in a chorus, going to the gym, being part of a book club, and frequenting local
restaurants and museums.
An English literature major when she studied at Manhattanville College in New York, Sloan says she made a choice years ago to learn everything she could about social media. Today, she has more than 18,500 followers on Instagram, where she shares aging tips and more. tinasloan.com; @tinasloan (Instagram) ❖
ULTIMATE Luxury
Impressed by the comfortable ride of his new HCB 42 Lujo, Jack McCarthy already has his sights set on another
by GEORGE LABONTEWhen it comes to the quest for the “perfect fit” in a boat, it’s rare to find an owner who is 100 percent satisfied with his or her final decision. In the case of Jack McCarthy, however, this is exactly the situation in which he finds himself—perfectly satisfied.
The owner of multiple vessels, McCarthy has boating experience that covers the spectrum of defined usefulness. But only his HCB 42 Lujo checks every box at once. He spends winters boating off Jupiter and summers on Long Island Sound. Along with his wife, Lisa, he also enjoys entertaining friends on the water. For boaters who divide their time equally between fishing and luxury cruising, the HCB 42 merges the two lifestyles seamlessly. On a recent outing where the fishing wasn’t especially hot, the McCarthys and their guests enjoyed a picnic lunch and some adult beverages. Comfortable onboard, the wait time between bites was a lot more enjoyable.
The expression viva de lujo (life of luxury) seems fitting to attach to the 42-foot model in HCB Yachts’ lineup. Two rows of seating behind the helm share abundant shade beneath a large hardtop. Additional plush upholstered seating covers the boat from stem to stern. A sofa-style cockpit seat is perched atop a large live bait well and faces the combination wet bar/tackle

rigging center. In the bow, a double-wide sun pad lounger ahead of the console faces wraparound forward seating, which can be converted into an additional sun pad or a dining venue by adjusting the center section’s platform table height. Three ladder-back teak helm seats and other varnished teak trim around the helm area add a further element of style to
the overall luxury aesthetic. Already an exceptionally soft ride, adding a Seakeeper 3 gyro stabilizer to the mix eliminates 90 percent of felt rolling offshore. For power, McCarthy chose quadruple Yamaha 425-hp XTOs. A trio of Garmin MFD units frame the view through a three-sided glass enclosure at the helm, while rod holders lining the gunwales, carbon outriggers, and abundant storage are all ideal features for anglers. McCarthy’s faith in a brand model could not be more evident: He already has an order in for a newer version of the 42 Lujo, with a few upgrades to make what he already considers the best just a little bit better. ❖

DISCOVER THE ALL-SEASON, PET-FRIENDLY TOWN OF CASHIERS, NORTH CAROLINA
by PAUL RUBIOIn western North Carolina’s beautiful share of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Jackson County is home to myriad plunging waterfalls, dramatic ravines, the highest vertical cliffs in the eastern United States, and one of the oldest mountains on the planet, Whiteside Mountain. The county’s Panthertown Valley has even been referred to as the “Yosemite of the East.” Although summer is a popular time to visit, these great outdoors can be appreciated in any season. Even better? The destination isn’t just for humans. Thanks to several pet-friendly towns—none more charming than luxury-tinged Cashiers—dogs can revel in the natural splendor too. Here’s how. (discoverjacksonnc.com)

The unpretentious yet stylish 18-room property sits on a panoramic Blue Ridge hilltop, surrounded by 2,000 square feet of green space inclusive of a garden and a DIY firepit (find stacks of wood and firestarting materials on-site but bring your own booze and s’mores kits). Located at the base of the hill, the reception area houses a fabulous Wine and Provisions Shop, fully stocked with fine wines and chilled Champagnes at prices competitive with local supermarkets, as well as The Wine Bar, which serves craft beer and curated wines by the glass.
EAT & DRINK
Below Hotel Cashiers, Slab Town Pizza (slabtownpizza.com) is an adorable, family owned and operated pizza joint featuring a lengthy menu of soups, salads, calzones, and hand-tossed pizzas, all of which can be consumed alfresco on the petfriendly lawn. Blackberry Farm hosts several events throughout the year at its farmstead, brewery, and well house, all situated on a sweeping 4,200acre property. Take full advantage of Blackberry’s stunning scenery during its two annual wellness retreats: The Enneagram Retreat happens each summer, and the Deep Healing Woods Retreat takes place in the fall.
If self-discovery is your passion (or you just want to learn more about yourself and others), the Enneagram Retreat provides an intimate setting for expert-led meditation, time in nature, and self-reflection. Daily “discovery workshops” guide participants through several Enneagram activities, while group gatherings and meals take place throughout the property. A highlight is the final dinner in the barn wine cellar, which stocks more than 170,000 bottles
Where: 1471 W. Millers Cove Road, Walland, TN
When: Enneagram Retreat July 23-26; Deep Healing Woods Retreat Sept. 24-27
Cost: Retreats start at $1,200, plus room and board (meals included)

Those seeking solace in the natural world will enjoy the Deep Healing Woods Retreat, which centers around outdoor yoga, meditation, and hiking. Guests spend the majority of their time basking under a fall forest canopy and dining alfresco on seasonal, farm-to-table fare (including a fun wellness-themed cooking demo on day two), with plenty of opportunities to simply bask in nature’s healing power. Highlights include an optional sunrise yoga session and a guided foraging hike through the woods—two events that make this mountain getaway a true gem ❖

BUILDING BONDS
RICH SCHEFFER SR., RICH SCHEFFER JR., TRISTEN SCHEFFER,GRANT SCHEFFER
When Rich Scheffer Sr. founded Tribute Boats in Palm City in 1992, the company name commemorated Jim Smith, the legendary sportfish pioneer who help Rich launch his career as a boat builder. The business has since become a tribute to the three generations of Scheffers who today build some of the best designed and engineered sportfish boats in the industry. “My dad was one of the first guys to use naval architects,” says 50-year-old Port Salerno resident Rich Jr., who joined his father at the company after earning a degree in electronics engineering from Indian River Community College (now Indian River State College) in 1993. “All the boats he has built have been around for decades.” Rich Jr.’s first position at Tribute was overseeing the complicated
web of electrical components that go into each boat, and now his own passion for boat building has inspired his sons to follow in his footsteps. Stuart residents Tristen, 24, and Grant, 22, are currently learning everything about the business from their dad—from electrical to rigging to composite work. The youngest Scheffer men are part of the company’s most challenging build yet: a 63-foot boat that Rich Sr. describes as “the world’s most high-tech sportfish boat.” While the hierarchy of a family business can sometimes prove challenging, the Scheffer men say they all work well together. “They’re generally good bosses,” says Tristen. His grandfather laughs and points to Rich Jr.: “I think the last time I disciplined him was when he was 3 years old.” tributeboats.com

BLUE BLOODS
STEVE and KEVIN HELSETH
After graduating from Lincoln Park Academy in Fort Pierce, Kevin Helseth was on the path to becoming an attorney. He attended the University of Central Florida, where he pursued a double major in criminal justice and legal studies. But by the time he graduated in 2018, things had changed.... “One weekend, he came home [from Tallahassee, where he was still living at the time] and told us he didn’t want to be an attorney,” recalls his father, Steve, a master sergeant in the Port St. Lucie Police Department who lives in Fort Pierce. Two years later, in March 2020, Steve—who has been in law enforcement since 1993—found himself presenting his son with a badge at Kevin’s swearing-in ceremony. Now a patrol officer in the same police department as his dad, 26-year-old Kevin says he was inspired by his father to trade practicing law for enforcing it. “Seeing what my dad got to do every day, I realized there was a lot more freedom than being stuck at a desk all day,” says Kevin, who also lives in Fort Pierce. “As a cop, I get to meet a lot of people and help a lot of people.” Working in the same department with his father means expectations are high. “People keep asking when I am going to try out for SWAT,” says Kevin, whose father served on SWAT for 23 years. Steve acknowledges that his son has a lot to live up to. “The Helseth name has a pretty good reputation here—but I haven’t heard any complaints about him yet,” he jokes.

FORE FATHER
BOB and ROBERT BALDASSARI
PGA professional Bob Baldassari has accomplished a lot in his career, but two things remain on his bucket list. “I’d like to get a hole-in-one, and I’d like to go to Scotland with Robert,” says the 60-yearold Palm City resident, referring to his 26-year-old son. Bob’s own father, Robert Baldassari Sr., was a 53-year member of the PGA himself, and Bob entered the league in 1991, earning a slew of accolades over the past three decades. He has served as past president of PGA of America and was named PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 2000. Today, he oversees golf operations at Sandpiper Bay Golf Club in Port St. Lucie and consults through his company, Reimagine Golf, helping course owners reimagine the golf experience and continue to grow the industry. Given his legacy, it’s no surprise that Bob’s son, Robert, found himself swinging a club at an early age. The Stuart resident played golf at Martin County High School and began a career at PGA Village before eventually landing at Stuart’s Willoughby Golf Club in 2022, where he works as an assistant pro. He credits his father with teaching him how to play— and making it fun along the way. “He’s seen my bad habits for 26 years, so he knows exactly what to tell me,” says Robert. On his own bucket list? “I want to play Pebble Beach with my dad.” sandpiperbaygolfcub.com; willoughbygolfclub.com

LEGAL LEGACY
J.D. LEWIS III, J.D. LEWIS IV, and CHRISTOPHER LEWIS
Alove for the law runs in the Lewis family. Brothers J.D. Lewis IV, 49, and Christopher Lewis, 45, wanted to be lawyers from childhood, and today they work side by side with their father at The Lewis Law Group in Stuart. At 74, J.D. Lewis III has the same passion for law as he did when he first started his practice nearly 40 years ago. “It’s a situation where I can help people when their lives are turned upside down,” J.D. III says of his work in personal injury law. Growing up, his sons saw firsthand their father’s commitment to his clients. “The first time I thought about law, I was around 7,” recalls J.D. IV. “I saw Dad with all these legal pads, and he was walking around talking to himself.” J.D. IV graduated from Martin County High School before attending Duke University and eventually earning a law degree from the University of Florida in 1998. After a two-year stint as a public defender, he decided to join his father at the family firm. His younger brother, Christopher, also graduated from UF’s College of Law after earning an undergraduate degree there. Like his brother, Christopher began his career as a public defender before joining his family at the Stuart practice. Working in the same office can have its challenges for three strong-willed attorneys who are also family. “I have my old-school ways, and a lot of the time that doesn’t work,” says J.D. III. “Sometimes, I have to sit back and learn.” Both of his sons smile at this, as J.D. IV points out that, in the end, their differences only make them a stronger team. “As much alike as we are, we are that much different,” he says. “We balance each other out.”

FAMILY PRACTICE
DR. EDWARD WENGLER and DR. CRAIG WENGLER
As a kid, Dr. Craig Wengler remembers his father watching videos of laparoscopic surgery on VHS tapes. “He was always learning and wanting to do more for his patients,” says Craig, 40, who credits his dad’s passion for patient care as the reason he also decided to pursue medicine. Born at Martin Memorial Hospital, Craig earned a doctorate in medicine from the University of South Florida and, after completing his internship and residency, landed a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio in 2014. A year later, he returned home to Stuart, where he now resides and serves as director of the Cleveland Clinic Martin Health Breast Center. His father, Dr. Edward Wengler, 70, a breast surgeon at Martin Health for 42 years, found his own career inspiration back in high school when his family hosted a foreign exchange student from Bolivia. “His dad was a physician, and my decision to go into medicine was influenced by many hours of talking with him,” recalls Edward, who also lives in Stuart. He continues: “For Craig to have chosen breast surgery and join me in practice was tremendous. The opportunity to work side by side with him is amazing and has certainly kept me in practice beyond when I might have otherwise retired.” ❖

Specialties : Obstetrics and Gynecology, Reproductive Endocrinology, Peptide Medicine
Undergraduate Medical Education : MD, Emory University School of Medicine
Internship and Residency: Internal Medicine and OB-GYN, Emory University Hospitals
Certifications : Life Fellow, American College of OB-GYN, North American Menopause Society Certified Practitioner, Academy of Preventative and Innovative Medicine
Well known and liked by generations of Treasure Coast women, Dr. Neil C. Boland has practiced OB-GYN for 42 years. He has served as department chairman at Martin Memorial Hospital, delivering more than 5,000 babies in Stuart and Port St. Lucie. Several of his delivered babies have now become practicing physicians themselves in Stuart. In 2015, Dr. Boland founded the Treasure Coast Bioidentical Institute. His facility is dedicated to cutting-edge hormone evaluation and management of menopausal and perimenopausal women as well as andropausal men with low testosterone. One third of his patients are males referred by their spouses.
Boland relates he is a devout believer in evidence-based medicine, lifelong learning, and integrating current research findings into medical practice. That’s why he logs more than 500 hours per year in continuing education courses or as a mentor to other physicians across the nation. Dr. Boland serves on the board of the BioTe Medical Corporation as a clinical advisor to more than 5,500 medical practices.
“Endocrinology has always been my first love” says Boland. “The reason so many patients feel so badly as they age is that hormonal medicine is simply not taught in medical training because of time constraints. The result is that hormonal medicine is tragically misunderstood by physicians, and their patients suffer, needlessly experiencing low quality of life. Hormonal imbalance often is a major root cause of medical illness. It is thrilling to see our patients undergo life-changing improvements in cognitive function, moods, sleep, appearance, sexual function, weight reduction, bone density, metabolic markers, and cancer prevention.”
Dr. Boland also currently serves as Board Vice-Chairman of the Kane Center, Martin County Council on Aging. He enjoys cycling, boating, playing sax, traveling, and being with his wife Renee and Bichon Willie Dog.

ABOUT THE LIST
Medical decisions are some of the most important choices our readers make. In an effort to provide the best medical information available, Stuart Magazine has enlisted a professional marketing company, Professional Research Services of Troy, Michigan, to identify the Top Doctors in Martin County and St. Lucie County. Together we surveyed licensed physicians, asking them to reveal the best medical professionals in our area. These Top Doctors have been scrutinized for the legitimacy of their licenses as well as their status with the Florida Department of Health. While there are outstanding professionals who aren’t listed here, we hope you’ll give these doctors special consideration when choosing a medical professional.
