Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity and Zeta Phi Beta Sorority collectively paused to honor the men and women who, with unwavering courage, chose to serve the United States of America.
On Sunday, November 10, 2024, Hon. Brother Chris V. Rey, J.D., International President and Sigma Brothers joined Soror Dr. Stacie NC Grant, International President & CEO and Zeta Sisters in a series of activities. The joint Veterans Appreciation Day observances
culminated Zeta Phi Beta Sorority’s Military Appreciation Weekend.
JOINT WREATH-LAYING CEREMONY
Brothers and sisters gathered at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arlington National Cemetery in Alexandria, VA. The ceremony was organized by Brother Cyrus A. Netter, Chairman, International Military Affairs Committee and Soror Sherrie M. Bryant, International Military Attaché Director, who joined
the international presidents as the official delegation for the wreathlaying ceremony which honored all of the Sigma Brothers and Zeta Sisters who sacrificed their lives serving this great nation.
Several Sigma and Zeta Veterans attended the ceremony to share in honoring the legacy of courage and sacrifice.
The special day of observances continued as the Blue & White Family attended the Sunday Morning Worship Service at the famed Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA, under the leadership of Senior Pastor Reverend Dr. Howard-John Wesley. Dr. Wesley recognized the organization’s leaders and members as the church’s special guests and delivered the most powerful message, quite timely and purposeful, occurring five days after the nation’s General Election.
At the close of the worship service, Dr. Wesley (member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.) and the church was presented with a $5,000 donation check. Coincidentally, Sugar Ray Leonard, former professional boxer was visiting and paused for photos with Presidents Rey and Grant at the end of the service.
Immediately following the worship service, the family assembled at 1799 Prime Steak & Seafood, a Blackowned restaurant also in Alexandria, to break bread, fellowship, recap the day and encourage brothers and sisters who’re current Veterans or serving in the armed forces.
The sisterhood presented a check for $80,000 to The Healthy Caregiver Community Foundation in support of the organization’s Women Veterans ROCK! Initiative.
The entire day of joint observances further advanced Phi Beta Sigma’s and Zeta Phi Beta’s combined purpose to “Elevate the Bond” of the only constitutionally bound fraternity and sorority.
