Porsche in the News Bringing you links to interesting Porsche articles from around the globe Porsche Cayenne Coupe Spied Showing Off Its Weird Rear Wing Like most Porsche test mules, the company dresses this one in black and uses matching tape for concealment. The front end of the Cayenne Coupe looks a lot like the standard model, including the three-opening grille and LED headlights. The major design changes start behind the B-pillar where the roof arches downward, rather than remaining flat. The tweak gives the Coupe a sleeker appearance at the expense of cargo space. The company conceals the taillights on this test mule, but expect them to stretch across the entire rear like on the standard Cayenne. The Full Story Here

2020 Porsche 911 GT3 spied for the first time We've seen plenty of spy photos of the upcoming 2020 Porsche 911. The next-gen model will use the 992 chassis code and will be an evolution of the current 991 generation, much like the 997 was a heavily revised version of the Porsche 911 996. We don't know when the new car will debut, but look for news sometime this upcoming auto show season. Today, we have a batch of spy photos of the upcoming Porsche 911 GT3. The Full Story Here

New Porsche Macans Start Rolling Out Of Leipzig Superseding the model first introduced in 2014, the revised Macan benefits from updated styling and equipment to further cement its place as Porsche's best-selling model. Out of the 246,000 vehicles it sold around the world last year, nearly 100,000 were Macans (compared to 25,000 or so 718s and 32,000 911s). The Full Story Here

Lose yourself in the details of Singers’ reworked Porsche 911 There was no shortage of awesome and incredible things at this year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, but, as always, anything that has been touched by Singer Vehicle Design is in a class of its own. Singer and racing firm Williams brought a special treat in the form of the Dynamic and Lightweighting Study, another reworked Porsche 911 that I haven’t been able to get out of my head since I saw it Sunday morning. . Porsche in the News Bringing you links to interesting Porsche articles from around the globe Porsche says that it will no longer make diesel vehicles Porsche says that it’s getting out of the diesel business — for good. Porsche CEO Oliver Blume notes that his company isn’t “demonising diesel” with the announcement, and says that the fuel still important worldwide, even though it’s never been a huge part of the company’s offerings. There’s been indications of this attitude in recent months: the German automaker has been increasingly interested in electric and hybrid vehicles. Last year, the company unveiled the 2019 Cayenne SUV , which was notably missing a diesel version, and later unveiled an updated hybrid model. The Full Story Here

The 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera T Is the Perfect 911 If You Can’t Afford a GT3 Thanks to the insane popularity and profitability of the Porsche Cayenne and Macan, Porsche has granted us an insane selection of the 911 to suit every single driver’s demands. But! With 24 different models in the U.S., it’s hard to sort out which coupe, Cabriolet, Targa, S or Turbo is the right 911 for you. But now we have the addition of the Carrera T in a crowded lineup. So how does it fit in? Well, in cutting down the weight and in picking and choosing some of the best equipment across the whole 911 line, it may just be the one you want the most—short of writing a $160,000 check for a GT3. The Full Story Here

Porsche 992 911 Caught Completely Uncovered at Nürburgring Porsche hasn’t exactly been shy about showing off its latest 911 on various racetracks and roadways across the globe. But the forthcoming Porsche 992 911 has mostly been covered in pesky camo. Which, of course, purposely distorts the little styling details we want to see. But as we inch closer to the debut of the next-gen 911, we’re beginning to get a clearer picture of what it looks like. First, we scored a pic of its uncovered rear end. And now, Road & Track has received spy shots showing the Porsche 992 911 completely uncovered while testing at Germany’s famed Nürburgring. And there are several interesting details to take away from this shockingly naked duo of 911s. The biggest (literally) is a much wider active spoiler out back. The Full Story Here

Oktoberfest Tour Aniano Areo

50 Members in 27 Cars Join Oktoberfest Trifecta Tour PCA-CHS 2018 Tour No. 10, Sept. 29 Three committees of PCA Chesapeake joined forces to offer members the Sept. 29 “Oktoberfest Trifecta.” This event was the brainchild of Donna Brandt, co-chair of the Social and Concours committees. Donna asked the Tour & Rally Committee to provide a driving tour, so Randy Moss and I gladly organized one. Donna herself took care of staging a People’s Choice Car Show and arranging a German food buffet at Edgewater’s Old Stein Inn. The weather could not have been better, so we had a good turnout. The tour attracted 27 cars and 50 people. Roughly the same number of people joined the lunch. A few came only for lunch, just as a few showed up only for the tour. Randy and his gorgeous red 1971 Jaguar E-Type nearly stole the Car Show, but he did not enter the car in the People’s Choice contest. The first place ribbon went to Steve Wood and his Aqua Blue 2010 911 GT3 (997), second place went to Bob Zach and his Sand Beige 1968 911L, while third place went to Jim Earlbeck and his Ice Green 1977 911 Turbo Carrera (930).

WSS Tech Session Randy Richter

Westminster Speed & Sound Tech Session and Social On Saturday afternoon September 22nd the first tech session to be held in the afternoon occurred at Westminster Speed and Sound. A large turnout at the event, followed by a dinner at a local restaurant proved the viability of the concept. Westminster Speed and Sound welcomed us warmly into their ultra clean and organized installation bays. After the usual introduction by the tech co-chairs, and a drawing for the gift certificate won by Tom Morton, Mark Miller the owner of WSS briefed us on the business. This includes the installation of custom auto sound equipment, integrated radar and laser detectors, laser defuser equipment, integrated backup cameras, window tinting, and vehicle Mark started the presentation by describing the installawrapping. Mark then presented each attendee with coution in a beautiful 911 red air cooled cabriolet. WSS Tech Session Randy Richter We moved on to an installation in a 2001 Boxster that had an updated radio head unit and greatly improved audio. Next up was a current Boxster that had a hidden radar, laser detector/diffuser and backup camera. WSS is able to integrate these items with the vehicles CAN bus (Controller Area Network) and provide displays on the vehicles mirror. The interesting thing about this installation was the point about needing the laser diffusers to be precisely aligned in order to work with the proper effectiveness. WSS owns a specialized laser generator tool to allow for them to do this precise alignment. The final example of WSS’s craftsmanship came in the form of a 997 Carrera 4S owned by Mark himself. This car not only had amazing audio upgrades but a totally hidden radar/laser system. The indicators of the radar/laser illuminated the various warning lights on the dash such as the seatbelt warning light to provide a totally hidden system. The audio system installed in this vehicle was absolutely stunning. This was run by a beautiful Alpine head unit, beautifully integrated external amplifiers and superb speakers. All of this was done with adding only two holes in a non-visible area. In my opinion this install easily eclipses the very expensive Porsche Burmester system. Unless you own a home stereo system that is at least $20000 you have never heard audio this good. A further example of the WSS commitment to excellence is demonstrated by the fact that to build enclosures for equipment and speakers, they do not use MDF (medium density fiberboard) because in vehicle it will eventually absorb water and deteriorate. Instead they use HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) building sheet which is impervious to moisture. An interesting aside, is that Mark mentioned if you have a 9X1 or later series, a great improvement to the sound can be made with out changing out the head unit. At the end of the technical presentation in the installation bays, we were invited to see the sparking and spacious product showroom, where we all could plan the next upgrades to our Porsche’s. In summary anyone can put a new radio and speakers in a car. However, the expertise and tools needed to the job correctly are not easily obtained. Many thanks to the WSS team and Mark Miller for opening their facility to PCA Chesapeake and providing a very informative tech session.
