Ron’s Ramblings Ron Farb

Chesapeake Region Ron Farb I woke up in the morning. I was going to cruise. Had to ready my Porsche, There was no time for booze.

But the GT2 RS caught up. And though I didn’t want to chat I looked over to my left, And saw the Cat in the Hat.

My black Turbo S Needed a cleaning and shine So I got out the hose And made it all fine.

He gave me a wave As he slowed down. Then he yelled out his window “There’s no need to frown.”

A layer of wax Was the last thing I needed. So I polished it up Till the water all beaded.

He said he liked my Turbo S. That it looked pretty cool. But when I looked at his 911 I just started to drool.

Then I hopped in my Turbo. I was ready to go. So I floored the accelerator. There’s no going slow.

It had a dual exhaust With some stripes on the side. Humongous 21 inch wheels. And really seemed wide.

The Porsche took off. The twin turbos were whining. It sucked in some air And I started driving.

A carbon fiber hood, Painted air intakes and trim He had specked it all out, Till it was proper and prim.

It threw me back in my seat I hit 60 in 3 seconds flat. Still I held the accelerator All the way to the mat.

Inside it had dual colored leather With deviated stitching. I saw multiple embroidered logos And boy it was bitchen’.

The tires were squealing. The engine was roaring. I was cruis’n now. This wouldn’t be boring.

I just stared at that car. Couldn’t believe what I saw. Those smoked LED taillights Just said it all.

I was zipping past cars Going incredibly fast. Knew my Turbo S looked great And I was having a blast!

Then he tipped his hat. Yelled he was taking off cruising. He shot off like a rocket And we were through schmoozing.

Then I looked in the mirror And I saw it coming. A Guards Red GT2 RS And boy it was rumbling.

I watched his taillights Disappear in the Sun. Knowing I just been schooled By the Cat having fun.

It was closing in fast. I wasn’t sure what to do. So I hit the gas hard And my Porsche just flew.

Why that Cat in the Hat Has the best 911 I’ve seen. He’s clearly the coolest In his Porsche machine! 13

Porsche in the News Bringing you links to interesting Porsche articles from around the globe Porsche Tops Luxury Sales Satisfaction Buying a car is more than just handing over your hard-earned cash and driving away into the sunset. The car-buying experience today is rarely easy; however, that doesn’t mean dealerships aren’t trying to reduce the hassle. According to J.D. Power and its U.S. Sales Satisfaction Index Study, communication is key between customer and dealership during a car-buying transaction. One key area dealerships can excel? Texting. According to the study, custom satisfaction rises when dealerships text. Thank you, Millennials and your ever-increasing fear of talking to someone on the phone. The Full Story Here

14 gorgeous Porsche Speedster photos to brighten the darkest day Porsche has done a very poor job of keeping the new 911 Speedster a secret after countless spy photos and a leak about the company registering VINs for the model. However, an announcement at the Paris Motor Show finally confirms that a production model of the attractive concept is on the way. Porsche isn't telling us much about the new, road-going 911 Speedster yet, but looking back at the past can provide a glimpse of the future. Click through the slides above to get a better idea of why a Porsche speedster is so special. The Full Story Here

Watch the Porsche 911 GT3 Pinch the More Powerful and More Expensive McLaren 570S The Porsche 911 GT3 is over $60,000 cheaper than the McLaren 570STrack Pack and down almost 70 horsepower, so why did the Porsche just manage to beat the McLaren in EVO’s latest track test? The Full Story Here

This Is The Stunning All-New 2020 Porsche 911 Rear-engined. Flat-six. Iconic shape. Pure 911. After months of spy shots and rumors and a leak here and there, the eighthgeneration Porsche 911 has finally arrived, making its live debut here at the 2018 LA Show. Code-named 992, the new 911 is unmistakably a 911, retaining its overall iconic shape and rear-engine setup. But this new 911 has a more muscular look, an all-new interior, and a new generation of turbocharged flat-six engines. Both 911 Carrera S and 4S come powered by an upgraded version of the twin-turbo 3.0-liter flat-six tuned to develop 443 hp – a 23 hp gain over the outgoing S models. Porsche claimed it achieved this additional power with improvements to the fuel injection system, higher compression ratio, and relocated intercoolers and turbochargers. See the Full Story Here

Porsche in the News Bringing you links to interesting Porsche articles from around the globe Porsche Profit Luxury car company Porsche, founded in 1948, made more than 4.22 billion euros in profit before taxes in 2017, according to its annual report. Based on the Nov. 8 exchange rate, that's more than $4.82 billion. Divide that yearly number into seconds and the company made an average of just under $153 every second. It's also an average of more than $9,176 every minute, nearly $550,595 every hour, more than $13.2 million every day and nearly $92.8 million every week. The Full Story Here

It's Only A Matter Of Time Until The New Porsche 911 Cabrio Drops Its Top Porsche has revealed an all-new 911 at the LA Auto Show this week. But as significant as it is, it's only the beginning of what you can be sure will be a nearly endless stream of variants to follow. And not the least of them will be the new cabriolet. Fortunately we don't have to wait for Zuffenhausen to open up its new sports car to get an idea of what it'll look like, because the rendering artists have already taken a crack or two at it, and we've rounded up for you a couple of the best renditions we've seen so far.. The Full Story Here

I Have a Radical Proposition for the 2020 Porsche 911 The 2020 Porsche 911 is out and so are its dimensions. Mostly. And guess what? It’s larger and heavier than the outgoing model. Because of this, I believe that the 911 should no longer receive the performance-oriented RS models. Before you start screeching, let me walk you through it. Whereas only the four-wheel drive 911s got the wide-body treatment in the previous generation, all of the 992-gen cars will come standard with those wider bodies now. The rear fenders and fronts are 1.7 and 1.8 inches wider, respectively. The 96.5-inch wheelbase of the outgoing model has been kept the same, though. And the new 911 is 121 pounds heavier. Porsche in the News By: Billy Rehbock https://www.automobilemag.com/news/2020-porsche-911-makes-debut-ahead-of-la-auto-show/

2020 Porsche 911 S and 4S: The All-New 992 Generation Is Here Any car enthusiast worth their salt can likely pen the basic shape of a Porsche 911 on command. That’s because Porsche doesn’t mess with what is one of the most iconic shapes in automotive history. There have been stylistic hiccups along the way (at least as far as the so-called purists are concerned), but the 911 has never wavered from its basic shape, nor its basic premise as a two-door, four-seat sports car with a rearmounted engine. Now the 2020 Porsche 911 Carrera has arrived at the Los Angeles auto show, which is held in a bastion of P-car enthusiasm. As in the outgoing 991.2, the latest iteration of Stuttgart’s icon features a turbocharged 3.0-liter flat-six hanging off the back end. The base Carreras and the inevitable cavalcade of cabriolets, Targas, Turbos, and RS cars will begin soon, but the 992 is being launched first in Carrera S and 4S trim, where output has been raised to 443 horsepower.

Porsche claims the new model can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds in rear-wheel-drive S spec and 3.4 seconds if configured with the 4S’s all-wheel drive. A new 8-speed dual-clutch transmission handles shifts and is prepped to receive an electric motor for an eventual hybrid model, while Porsche promises the seven-speed manual transmission will return in the 992 at a later date. Porsche has arguably zagged from the 911’s gradual evolutionary line only once, when it introduced a water -cooled engine and the famous “cracked egg” headlights with the 1997 996. While the move from air cooling was perhaps more controversial at the time, the lamps seem to be more divisive these days. Porsche itself acknowledges that it perhaps made too far a leap, with various executives tipping their hats to critics of the 996 throughout the premiere event held at the Porsche Experience Center Los Angeles. Chassis, dimensional, and suspension upgrades accompany the power boost over the 991.2-generation cars, including quicker steering and electrically assisted brakes. The wheels are staggered-diameter and measure 20 inches up front and 21 inches out back. The body is 1.77 inches wider up front and 1.71 inches wider in the rear.

Horse Country Fall Colors Tour 73 People in 39 Porsches Take Horse Country Fall Colors Tour PCA Chesapeake 2018 Tour No. 12, Nov. 4, Sunday By Aniano Arao Co-Chair, Tour & Rally Committee

What could be more delightful than having a great time in a Porsche as it sprints through Maryland’s scenic Horse Country amid the awesome colors of fall? Imagine doing this on smooth, curvy and undulating roads, with little to no traffic, not far from home? That appealing driving experience was offered by PCA Chesapeake’s 2018 “Horse Country Fall Colors Tour,” which twisted and turned through Baltimore, Carroll and Howard counties. The route was made up of a fresh combination of wonderful roads – some our tours had used in the past and several more that Photo Courtesy of Sara Thomas tour regulars had not driven before. All the fun eventually took us to PCA member Skip Conrey’s 92-acre Valhalla Estate, which will be the venue of the 2019 Chesapeake Challenge. A buffet overseen by Myrna and catered by Mission BBQ was ready for us when we arrived at Skip’s party barn in Marriottsville. During and after lunch, those who wanted to watch the Baltimore Ravens do battle with the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to do so on a 70-inch TV, as well as on a smaller one, live. Skip provided 100 cans and 2 kegs of cold beer. Altogether, 73 people in 39 Porsches took part in this 76mile driving tour, which started from Reisterstown. About 60 people joined the lunch. We divided the cars into three “dynamic” groups and one “relaxed” group, all of which were launched by my fellow tour master Randy Moss. He and Michelle served as the tour's overall sweepers. Our thanks go to Joan and Steve Wood, Larry and Jennifer Robinson, and Bob and Sally Stanhope for agreeing to lead the 2nd, 3rd and 4th groups, respectively. I led the 1st group.

Our thanks particularly go to Skip and his staff for being such generous and gracious hosts during our BBQ lunch. Our gratitude also go to PCA-CHS VP Lynda Sobus for being, as usual, our behind-the-scenes, hardworking and crucial ClubRegistration registrar, as well as to PCA-CHS Treasurer Vince Rock, for paying the bills.

Horse Country Fall Colors Tour And, finally, our congratulations go to Marco and Anna Alban, whose 2016 Porsche 911 GTS Club Coupe won the “People’s Choice” contest. This car was one of 60 made to celebrate Porsche Club of America’s 60th anniversary in 2015. Busy as tour organizer, I managed to take only a few photos and only at our lunch destination. Chesapeake Challenge 49 Minta Miller The Chesapeake Region invited all PCA members to attend the 49th Chesapeake Challenge, the oldest running PCA multi-event day. This year the Maryland Yacht Club in Pasadena, MD, situated on over eight acres of beautiful waterfront property, which provided an incredible backdrop for all the gorgeous Porsches in attendance. Saturday opened with a Concours d’Elegance consisting of Full Concours (judging of interior, exterior, engine and storage) and Street-Prepared Concours categories (interior and exterior). Classes for both categories were based on entries. In addition to class awards, there were awards for Best of Street Class and Best of Full Concours Group. Both the Street and Touring Categories were eligible for People’s Choice Award. We have the privilege of having experienced Porsche Parade Judges and Graders within our club who graciously offered to judge and grade our Chesapeake Challenge Concours. Doug Ehmann, Donna Brandt, and Ron Gordon are our Region Concours Chairs and they worked diligently to put together a fantastic Concours with a layout plan to feature our Porsches with a magnificent Chesapeake Bay backdrop. The Maryland Yacht Club is a bit secluded, so the yacht club offered a lunch buffet consisting of deli sandwiches and sausages with peppers on rolls. Shortly after lunch, our Tour Chairs, Aniano Arao and Randy Moss, treated us to a fabulous tour of the Southern Anne Arundel countryside via a Gimmick Rally. It was a challenging Gimmick this year. Most of the winning questions’ answers could be found at the Yacht Club, which was only helpful if you browsed the yacht club and paid attention. Additionally, our sponsor, Porsche of Towson, provided a beautiful Panamera for members to drool over and was also a part the Gimmick Rally questions. Immediately following the Gimmick Rally, we were all given the opportunity to prove our Porsche geekiness with a challenging Tech Quiz courtesy of our Tech Chairs, Jim Earlbeck and Randy Richter. This was supposed to be a “fun” test, if there is such a thing. Coinciding with the Tech Quiz was the cocktail hour with appetizers and Open Bar, because everybody does better on a test with food and alcohol! After the fun yet challenging yet Tech Quiz, we indulged in more cocktails and a fabulous dinner buffet complete with roast beef and turkey carving station. Afterwards, the day’s trophies were awarded to the winners. Trophies were earned for Street and Full Concours, top of their classes (following Porsche Parade guidelines for trophy placements), top 3 driver and navigators (teams) of the Gimmick Rally, top 3 (Men and Ladies) of the Tech Quiz. During the entirety of the day, the Chesapeake Region conducted a Silent Auction to benefit the Mercy NICU. Through the Region’s generous members, we were able to raise over $1500. A big thank you goes out to Community Service Chair, Becca Earlbeck for collecting donations and managing the auction.

A big Thank You goes out to Joan Wood and Vince Rock (Registration & Coffee and Donuts Station), Lynda Sobus (Registrar and Swag Bags), Steve Wood (Parking and Judging), Jim Earlbeck and Randy Richter (Tech Quiz), Aniano Arao and Randy Moss (Gimmick Rally), Donna Brandt, Doug Ehmann, and Ron Gordon (Concours d’Elegance), Linda Gordon and Gale Dazzo (Concours Grading), all the other members who volunteered to help put on such a wonderful event.

Chesapeake Challenge 49 Another huge Thank You goes out to the Maryland Yacht Club and their staff for treating the Chesapeake Region so well and for hosting our cars and us. CC 49—Gimmick Rally 49 People in 24 Porsches Compete In Nov. 10 CC49 Gimmick Rally PCA Chesapeake 2018 Tour & Rally Event No. 13 By Aniano Arao Co-Chair, Tour & Rally Committee

The Chesapeake Region of the Porsche Club of America held its 49th Chesapeake Challenge at the Maryland Yacht Club in Pasadena and the surrounding area. This multi-event celebration had to be rescheduled and was held on Nov. 10 because of a dire forecast of seriously bad weather for its original date, Sept. 15. On the new date, the weather was chilly but sunny. So the Chesapeake Challenge proceeded as planned, starting with a two-category and multi-class Concours d'Elegance in the morning (Street Preparation and Full Concours), followed by lunch, a Gimmick Rally and a Tech Quiz. While the organizers were busy at the end of the day scoring the three events and the entire Challenge, cocktails and appetizers were served. Then the Awards Banquet came next, followed soon after by the Awards Ceremony. In the Gimmick Rally, the top finishing drivers and navigators were: (1) Shane Howard and Joshua Tomlinson; (2) Dennis Howard and Wesley Tomlinson; and (3) David Dukehart and Atena Rosak. A total of 49 people in 24 cars took part in the 70-mile rally.NOTE: With the cancellation of the “Drive to the 356 Registry Concours” in Ocean City, NJ, this tour became our 2018 Tour & Rally Event No. 13, instead of No. 14.

CC 49—Tech Quiz (with Answers!) It is the philosophy of Chesapeake's Tech Co-Chairs that the Tech Quizzes should not only identify our members that have learned a lot about the cars that we embrace, but should also educate and stimulate the educational thirst of those members that have not previously had the time or desire to learn. We also believe that the Tech Quizzes should fun. After all, is that not what our Club is about? We are providing you with a copy of the Tech Quiz that was given as part of our 49th Chesapeake Challenge. Please take a look and give us some feedback if you think that there is a better path to follow, if we are hitting our goals or any ideas about enhancing the Tech Quiz. See the pages at the end of this month’s Patter for the Quiz, the answers and the sources.

For Sale 19” Winter Wheels & Tires for Boxster/Cayman These winter wheels and tires came off my Boxster S last winter and unfortunately for me they do not fit my 911. This gives someone else the opportunity to inexpensively enjoy their Porsche in the cold like I used to. The wheels are Starke Design SC19 19x8 & 19x9.5 rims from Tire Rack The tires are Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4s and are in almost new condition as follows: • Front: 235/40R19 with about 10/32 of tread left (basically no wear) • Rear: 265/40R19 with about 8/32 of tread left All the tires are mounted, balanced, and include the TPMS sensors. They do not have decorative center caps. Tire Rack sells this exact wheel/tire combo for $2339. I will let these almost perfect wheels/tires go for over $1000 less at $1300 for a quick sale in time for the cold.
