Chesapeake Challenge For over 40 years, Chesapeake Region has invited its members and friends to celebrate the annual Chesapeake Challenge – the oldest running multi-event weekend in PCA history. The first Chesapeake Challenge was held August 2-4, 1968 at the Holiday Inn on Loch Raven Blvd. in Towson, with the Concours d’Elegance staged on the front lawn of Goucher College. The two Porsche dealers in the area at the time, Knowlton “Pappy” Long’s Stuttgart Imports and Charles Gillet’s 40 West Motors, donated the trophies. Pappy passed away right after the 3rd Challenge, and the 1st Overall Award was designated in his honor thereafter. The Challenge became quickly popular among Mid Atlantic owners, and attendance grew to well over a hundred cars in the ensuing years. The Challenge has moved around Maryland throughout its history. Cumberland, Havre de Grace, Annapolis, Timonium, and Columbia are among the locations that have hosted the Challenge. The event has been held in the spring, summer, and fall, and in the beginning, included a full concours, TSD rally, and autocross. We have kept the concours, added a people’s choice car show, swapped out the TSD rally for a gimmick rally, and dropped the autocross for a tech quiz. One of the great traditions of the Challenge is in commemorative license plates. Many Porsche Club members have collected these plates and proudly display them on their garage walls. From 1968-2008, the event was held as a three day event held from Friday over Saturday, with the autocross being held on Sunday morning. In 2009, the club changed the format to three events in one day. In the weeks leading up to the Challenge, not a Q-tip or cotton ball can be found on store shelves as participants pre: pare for the Concours or the People’s Choice Car Show. Then it’s on to the Gimmick Rally. There is no better way to spend a relaxing afternoon! After participants return from the Rally, they show off their Porsche knowledge with a Tech Bingo or perhaps a “Porsches in the Movies” type quiz. The participant with the highest combined scores for the three events is awarded the coveted Lufthansa (Knowlton P. Long Award) trophy. The task of finding the perfect venue and pulling everything together is in the hands of the Chesapeake Challenge Chairperson. Hats off to those who have done this job so well for forty years! This year the Chesapeake Challenge celebrates its 50th Anniversary and this year we celebrate our history. Our Chesapeake Challenge Chairs, Minta Miller and Joan Wood, are working hard to bring back some Blasts from the Past!

SAVE THE DATE!

History Channel PCA-Style A monthly feature depicting some highlights from past years, 50, 40, 30, 25 years ago Bob Rassa—Club Historian

40 years ago in July 1979 Pres Marty Goldsmith was at the end of running the show, as he had moved to Columbus, Ohio and Moose Spencer was the new President as of July 1, and we still met at the Pirates Cove [long gone] on Rt 40 not far from the also long-gone 40 West Porsche+Audi. Marty commandeered the bulk of the month’s PATTER with a very detailed explanation of how he lowered his 1976 911S. [Remember, when US bumper-height laws came into effect in 1973, Porsche responded by simply raising the ride height

of the 911, giving the car a somewhat ungainly stance and negatively affecting the overall handling]. Marty explained that you simply unbolt all rear suspension components and allow the rear trailing arms to drop, and then you remove the splined torsion bars, rotate them a spline or two and reinsert into their sockets. Marty reduced the installed angle of the trailing arms from 35 deg to 29 deg which proved just right. Marty then adjusted the front torsion bars a similar amount to achieve a level ride height [and since there aren’t trailing arms on the front end, we presume Marty simply rotated the torsion bars a similar number of splines as the rear]. Marty then explained that alignment was now disturbed so a full re-alignment was essential. Finally, Marty acknowledged that the process took a full day, involved a lot of work, and definitely needed assistance. Another interesting piece was from Dave Czarnecki who discussed the merits of owning a 2nd car in addition to the Porsche, to use in snow and for those shopping trips, thus preserving the Por-

sche. His was known as the White Whale, as it was a 1967 Oldsmobile 98 4-door sedan, white of course with a 425 cu in engine and a 26-gallon fuel tank. Dave noted that on one swap meet trip to Carlisle with Bob Green and Jack Thomas Dave established a non-smoking section of the car, which to be fair was only the 1st 2 rows of the car. [Thomas was a heavy smoker]. Fortunately, there was still enough room in the trunk for the engine and suspension parts they bought. And there was an ad for a new magazine entitled Porsche Magazine by John W. Barnes, Jr. Publishing, Inc out of Scarsdale NY, to be edited by long-term Porsche author Suzanne Miller. [Sadly, that magazine did not last very long]. 30 years ago in July 1989 the Army Colonel [aka Bob Gutjahr] was still at the helm and still writing prolifer-

ously, although one of his writings was to announce that the Army, in keeping with its plan to not let officers get too comfy in any one location, was sending him to Leavenworth, Kansas, and Dennis Howard would be filling the President shoes for the rest of 1989. Officers then were Steven Koves, VP; Dennis Howard, Secretary; Bill Ryan, Treasurer; John Harvey, Membership; Ben Cook, PATTER Editor; Dave Mann, Safety Chair; Donna Novak, Social Chair; Jim Harrison, Goodie store; Chip Reichhart, Autocross Chair. [Interestingly, only 3 of these seem to remain visible in the Region today – where are the rest?]. The colonel reminisced about his stint in Maryland, and gave hearty thanks to those who assisted in running the Region, primarily all the officers listed above. In his welcome message, Dennis allowed that his first Porsche was a 1968 911L

12

Chesapeake Region

History Channel (cont’d) coupe, red. His 2nd Porsche, bought a year later, was a mint ’79 928, triple-black. [Yo Dennis, don’t you wish you still had those two? We know you own two RS Americas now, one of which has a working air conditioner, but that 911L and 928 - hmmm]. The Region was still meeting at the Country Fare Inn on Reisterstown Rd [also now long gone] and several neat events were announced – the now-annual crab feast at Walt and Rubye Woodhead’s place on the eastern shore’s Kent Island, and the Chesapeake Challenge 21 set for Sept 17-19 at the Sheraton Towson. In preparation for the Challenge Concours d’Elegance, Lee Raskin and Ralph Simmers were holding a concours prep session at Ralph’s place in Glyndon off Butler Rd. The treasury balance stood at $2,988 and the Region welcomed new members Michael Blum (84 944), Yuri Fatkulin (73 911), Richard George (66 912), Philip Miller (85 944), Harry Raker (68 911S), Noel Benton (77 911S), Wayne Freeze (88 944 Turbo S), Tom Mayberry (89 944 S2), William Bishop (64 356C), and David Descoteau (60 356A). [ As before- where are all these folks??] 25 years ago Manny Alban was President, the 5-year-prior departed Colonel was VP and it was noted that there would not be a July monthly meeting although the Region was now meeting at Fiori’s [another now-closed restaurant], but there would be a tech session at Tischer Porsche in Silver Spring [now Porsche Silver Spring]. Full Chesapeake Challenge 25 results were announced, with Ron Gordon winning best in show in the Concours, Dennis Howard taking FTD in the autocross (93 911 RS America), and Bob

Garcia with Andrea Hollander taking first in the photo gimmick rally.

West Virginia Grand Tour 26 People in 13 Vehicles Take Part In 3-Day West Virginia Grand Tour PCA Chesapeake’s 2019 Tour & Rally Event No. 5 For the third year in a row, the Chesapeake Region of the Porsche Club of America held its “West Virginia Grand Tour,” from May 31st to June 2nd, 2019. The turnout was much less than before, with only 26 people in 13 cars joining the Tour & Rally Committee’s premier event.

The second major change this year was that we offered tour participants a choice of visiting not only one grand and historic resort but two – the Omni Homestead Resort in Hot Springs, VA, as well as The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, WV. In 2017 and 2018, the tour’s itinerary included only the latter.

In the inaugural edition, held in early June 2017, 44 people in 23 cars participated. The second edition, held in early June 2018, originally drew 47 registrants in 25 cars, but unfavorable weather forecasts and family emergencies eventually whittled down the number of participants to 35 in 19 cars.

On the first day of this year’s tour, Stage 1 took us from the Collectors Car Corral in Owings Mills to our first pit stop, at a Panera Bread in Frederick. Stage 2 brought us to our lunch destination, Taris Café in Berkeley Springs, WV. Stage 3 led us to another pit stop, at a Sheetz gas station and convenience store in Petersburg, WV. Stage 4 took us all the way to SnowEvery year, we regularly offer a combination of tried- shoe Resort, where we stayed for two nights, had and-tested backroads and fresh ones. Fourteen others in 6 cars, led by Randy and Michelle, opted to return to Snowshoe. None decided to hang out at the Homestead, although many suggested that we consider making this charming and venerable resort our home base next year. As soon as those of us who had headed to The Greenbrier got there, the event services manager met us in the parking area reserved for us. Our timing was perfect. I had told her days earlier that some of us may individually want to join a Bunker Tour. She managed to arrange that, taking Terrell and Lori Williams, Hank and Ellen Lucas, as well as Ismailov Nurbek, on her personal SUV to the main building, where the next tour was set to get underway in 15 minutes. After the 90-minute tour, they all told Gordon and Jean Ellis and me that they found it fascinating. (Last year, all 20 of us who took the tour also found it both highly informative and very entertaining, thanks to a terrific guide.)

Dinner that night was the last time most of us were together as a group. The Conniffs, Pattersons, Tedeschis and Williamses left for home after breakfast the next day. Gordon and Jean, Hank and Ellen, Randy and Michelle, Mike and Eve, Myrna and I proceeded to Chuck Goldsborough’s Annamede Farm in Walkersville, WV. Our catered BBQ lunch was ready when we got there. Randy R and Janet arrived about 90 minutes later, having stayed behind at Snowshoe to do the clay shooting they had missed the day before. As in 2017, Chuck was a gracious host. He took us on a guided tour of the 120-year-old Annamede Mansion, which he acquired a few years ago. A thorough restoration of most of the interior was practically complete and the modernization of the kitchen was all done. The next phase will involve the completion of the exterior’s restoration.

Soon after 2 PM, we all headed home via the quickest route, which meant driving on the interstates that, for the most part, we had avoided for two and a half days. Altogether, the tour covered about 491 Meanwhile, the Grand Tour members who had gone miles for those who skipped The Greenbrier and back to Snowshoe ended up with mixed results. about 562 miles for those who went there. The Purists Won

Article by Kristen Lee

To be a part of the automotive industry is to hear an endless stream of moaning and complaining, especially when it comes to Porsche’s cars. If Porsche deviates at all from something it used to do, you never hear the end of it, such as when the Boxster and Cayman traded out their flat-six engines in favor of turbocharged flat -fours. And now Porsche has given in. Top Gear and /DRIVEs’ Chris Harris took to Twitter last night to provide some musing on the new 718 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder, both of which are offered with a flat-six engine and a six-speed manual like the purists always wanted. Harris calls the four-cylinder cars “least desirable,” but Porsche hasn’t said anything about kicking that engine out of the base model cars. What’s more, it’s hard to say definitely that the four-cylinder engine hurt sales, even pulling sales figures from the gas-guzzling United States. Porsche introduced the flat-four with the 718 models in 2016. So, up until then, the cars were offered with the flat-six. Beyond that point, they came with the flat-four. According to Porsche’s own United States sales figures, there was a dip, but not a big one, and it wasn’t extended. In 2015, the company reported6,663 Boxster and Cayman models sold. Those numbers fell to 6,260 cars in 2016, 5,087 cars in 2017 and rose slightly to 5,276 in 2018. But if you stretch your view back a bit more, using the excellent sales database at GoodCarBadCar, you’ll see a downward trend on the U.S. sales of the Boxster since its most recent sales peak in 2013, as well as Cayman sales not dropping much at all even through ‘16. This is a time when, say, its rival the Audi TT was also sliding, sliding all the way off the market. Sales aside, Harris does speak as a painfully serious Porsche nerd as much as he speaks to or for them, and it’s a bit of a bummer to see Porsche cave to their demands. Really, this is kind of a shame to me, personally, because frankly I thought the 718 Cayman was a delightful thing to wield. Sure, it didn’t have the sound and the high redline that its flat-six predecessors did, but it was still spirited and delightful and had plenty of torque to rocket around with. This engine deserved better. Read the original article on Jalopnik here!

Autocross Update We’ve been reasonably lucky so far with the weather during our AX events this season, but it was probably inevitable that our luck would eventually run out. Such was the case with AX#3, held at PGS in Bowie on Sunday June 6th. Fortunately, it was dry when we started (it’s no fun setting up in the rain) and there were no downpours, but the rain (albeit mostly light) did significantly affect the event. It actually started about midway into the 4th run of the 1st heat (there were 3 heats) with a brief shower. There was a break, then more light rain. The rain became steadier late in the 1st heat and through the 2nd heat (we were driving with the windshield wipers turned on in the 2nd heat), then lightened and ultimately stopped for a while during the 3rd heat when some dry spots actually appeared again, then the 3rd heat ended in light rain. Because of this, the course conditions were highly variable from heat-to-heat. Those driving in the 1st heat had the best conditions, the 2 nd the worst, and the 3rd somewhere in between. Racer’s luck! It does make it hard to compare results between drivers in different heats, though. AX co-chair and course designer Brad Martinez really came up with an interesting course design for this event with a pair of pins (single cones that the driver had to use to reverse course) and a couple of really fast sections. The section down through the channel to the far end of the course was wicked fast and was a test of bravery to find the proper braking point before the corner. This was especially interesting when you were approaching it at 70 mph or so in the wet. ;) The run back up through the

channel was also very fast, ending in a Chicago box whose configuration changed slightly as the day wore on. That was unfortunate, but was a consequence of the rain washing away the chalk outlines, making it well nigh impossible for our intrepid course workers to put it back together when there were cone hits (and there were more than a few of them there). We actually had to stop racing a couple of times while Brad went out to reconstruct a couple of course sections after cones were misplaced due to the rain. There was really nothing to be done about it except roll with it and move on! The turnout was a bit light (53 drivers), no doubt due to the forecast, but the driving was certainly entertaining. I don’t know about you, but I really needed the practice driving in wet conditions, so I took the mindset that this was a good opportunity to do so. I normally race my 981 Cayman S in Sport mode with the chassis stiffened and with the nannies disabled. I’ve never really experimented carefully with turning the nannies on and off in the rain, so I decided I would do so at this event. (I was driving in the second heat when the conditions were at their worst.) That was certainly educational. I discovered that with my car and at the current state of my ability, I was clearly much better with the nannies on. The subject of having the nannies on or off is quite interesting. Sometime recently, I overheard Chris Nolan mention that he’s much better with the nannies turned off in his new car (a lovely paint-to-sample Gulf Orange GT4), which surprised me no end.

Autocross Update him, but he came with his WRX. I was interested to see that newcomer Gurpreet Singh attended as well. I met Gurpreet at the final New Member party of 2018 and after chatting a bit, he was really interested in getting started with AX. I had been wondering when I’d see him, but the real world kept him away ‘til this event. That happens to the best of us. ;) Mark Hubley’s car was still on IR for this event, but Pinto Soin was kind enough to let him drive his car. Astonishingly, Mark didn’t win his class this time – just when I was getting used to saying that he won his class in another borrowed car. ;) Mark competed in S4, but the class was won by Gary Baker (who’s always blistering fast!) at 52.549 sec, followed by Michael Tavenner in his gorgeous 2017 718 Cayman S at 53.134 sec, with Someone responded that that means he’s not driving well, but Mark in 3rd at 53.596 sec. After competing for 3 years with a I’m not sure I would come to that conclusion. Chris is a highly Cayenne and soaking up everything he could about AX racing, skilled and very aggressive driver and it’s obvious his car control Michael is tearing it up with his new Cayman S. It’s worth menis very good. The bottom line is that nannies off may not work tioning that after a year on IR, Mark’s car is now finally back in for everyone, though I would suggest that most of us are more shape and we’ll be looking forward to seeing him racing again likely to be able to take greater advantage of the car with the with his accustomed steed. Congratulations, Mark! nannies off for lower and moderately powerful cars like my CayFTD among the Pcars was set by POT driver Dean Moheet (of man S. GT4’s Turbos, maybe GT3’s, etc. may do better with course!) at 51.392 sec, followed by Gary Baker (52.549 sec) and them on, depending on your driving style. I normally recomScott Borden (52.864 sec). What makes that all the more immend to newcomers that they turn the nannies off right from the start and I still stand by that, though I may temper that rec- pressive is that Gary drove in heat 2 (which had the worst conditions!), Dean in heat 3, and Scott in heat 2. That really says a lot ommendation for those with more powerful cars. Food for about the car control exhibited by these guys. thought! Even though the turnout was a touch light due to the rain, we still had an interesting mix of drivers. POT AX co-chairs Steve Bobbitt and Jeff Braun were there, though because their primary cars were both on the IR list after track mishaps, they drove their DDs. Gary Baker from POT was also there for this event, which marked the first time he made it to a CHS event in quite some time. I was pleased to see Bill Sandusky getting out with us again, too. Bill’s the Competition Chair for the local CCA (Corvette Club of America) and is a really good guy – we’re always happy to have him race with us. I think the wet conditions were awfully difficult for his Vette, though. Chris Nolan didn’t have his GT4 with

Autocross Update (cont’d) was interested to see that her times in the damp were not significantly different than her times in the dry during heat 1. That was impressive! BTW, I should mention that perennial S3 class winner Slava Burmaka missed this event because he was sick. We missed you, Slava! Gary Baker was 1st in S4 (2014 991) at 52.549 sec (in heat 2 – wow!), Michael Tavenner was 2nd (2016 718 Cayman S) at 53.134 sec (heat 3) sec, and Mark Hubley 3rd (2014 991) at 53.596 sec (heat 1). S5 was won by Scott Borden (991.2 GT3 Touring) at 52.864 sec (heat 2 – a very impressive time when it was really wet).

first season at AX). S3 was won by Meilyng Wigney-Burmaka (2000 996 C4) at 53.663 sec (heat 1), with me in 2 nd (2014 981 Cayman S) at 55.179 sec (heat 2) and Tessa Hall (2006 997) at 56.656 sec (heat 2). When the rains came, I was pretty sure I would never catch Meilyng, but she would have beaten me if she’d driven in the 2nd heat, anyway – she’s demonstrated multiple times that she’s a really good wet weather driver in that C4. I

Jim Foley came out in the rain in his 1971 914 (top? What top???), taking 1st in P1 (63.398 sec, heat 2), Darrell Pope was 1st in P2 (1989 944) at 56.096 sec (in heat 1), Aaron Miller was 1st in P4 (944S) at 57.461 sec (heat 2), and Wayne Moore was 1st in P5 (991 2S) at 53.791 sec (heat 3). Dean Moheet took P6 (2003 996) at 51.391 sec (heat 3).

Autocross Update (cont’d) In the overall, Ivan Slavov was again FTD with his M3 at a blistering 49.930 sec (heat 1) and was also FTD in PAX. No one in heat 2 or 3 was going to touch that time, but Ivan routinely manages FTD at out events anyway. (This is his third FTD in three attempts.) Dean was 2nd, Gary was 3rd, Scott was 4th, and Jeff Braun was 5th in his 1993 RX7. The OC_PAX rankings had Ivan 1st, Bill Cruz 2nd (2018 Tesla Model 3 – another good showing for Bill!), Will Murphy 3rd (2017 Focus RS), Steve Bobbitt (2018 VW GTI) 4th, and Al Pacheco (2105 VW GTI) 5th. Hmm. Good showing for Al. He must be getting the settings dialed in on the rebuilt suspension on his GTI! I can’t help but comment on the CHS vs POT thing, so will note that Scott Borden was the top CHS driver and 3rd overall among the Pcars while driving in heat 2. Actually, I thought the times put up by Gary Baker and Scott in the wettest conditions in heat 2 were really impressive. There were 27 Pcars at this event out of 53 contestants. For the year through three events, we’re running right around 50% Pcars, which I continue to find a bit surprising since last year it was more like 2/3 Pcars. This is all the more surprising when you consider that we’re generally having a little more participation from our POT friends this year, too. Hmm. I have guesses why this might be so, but I don’t really know for sure. Have to think about that.

straightforward, while the course for this event mixed in some more technical elements. I think it’s fair to say that you can expect the courses to get a bit more complicated after this, so hold onto your hats. As I write this, AX#4 at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen has been completed (full report next month). There will be no events during July because I was unable to find a date this month at PGS that worked for us (which is why we had two races during June). The next event (AX#5) will therefore be August 3rd at Summit Point Motorsport Park in Summit Point, WV as part of the PCA Experience to be held that weekend. This will be a joint CHS/POT event, though run by CHS. Gary Baker and I have been talking about a little friendly CHS vs POT competition at this event, so we’ll see where that goes. It’s a bit of a hike out there, but it’s a beautiful venue, continental breakfast and lunch will be provided, and you can expect to have lots of fun. POT AXers tend to register early for events, so make sure you register early – you won’t want to be left out of the action! Have a great month and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you at the races!

Tear down in the rain was amazing. I was putting away the computers and other electronic gear in the trailer and by the time I was done with that, everything had been brought to the trailer and was ready to be packed away. Amazing! The help given us by the participants is just staggering. Thanks to everyone for helping out! Kudos also to POT member Bob Simmons who took my gas-powered blower out to the lower part of the course to clean the line. Bob was out there for a long time and that’s a job that’s no fun at all. We can all thank Bob for his contribution to the enterprise! The courses used for the first two AX events were quite

Porsche In The News

In 1992, Porsche Cars North America felt the wild Carrara 3.8 RS was too aggressive for its market, but it did bring over a handful for a single-make race series, all federalized with correct lighting elements and an airbag. But after the American Carrera Cup got cancelled due to lack of funding, the cars were quietly sold off.

In addition to classic designs stemming from motorsports, it will also be possible to implement designs inspired by, for instance, fashion and the arts. Genuine and previously unavailable Porsche colours will also be available for selection. For this purpose, the platform is collaborating with renowned artists, design studios, foil providers and vinyl paint manufacturers. See the full story HERE

This September at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show, Porsche will unveil its highly anticipated all-electric Taycan. Based on numerous sets of spy shots, renderings, and the Mission E concept, we have an excellent overall idea what the production version will look like, at least from the outside. Interior details are slightly vaguer but, generally speaking, it’ll closely resemble what’s found in the Mission E. The big mystery, however, is how will the Taycan drive? We know its most direct competitor, the Tesla Model S, is seriously fast but outright speed isn’t what driving a Porsche is necessarily about.

Porsche In The News

At last, the all-new Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is here! Short of the new Toyota Supra or the forthcoming mid-engined Corvette, we can’t think of a more anticipated sports car of late, and after endless speculation, tons of rumors, frenzied spy shots, and late-night debates among Automobile staffers, the newest junior member of the Porsche ticks all the right boxes

If you have too much cash and need a reason to blow it on a new car, there are plenty of automakers out there that will fight for your dollar with compelling sports cars. But none will do a better job of tempting you than Porsche, especially now that it’s revealed what may be two of its best enthusiast cars yet, the 718 Spyder and Cayman GT4.

A Porsche dealership has cruised into a new, $40 million home nearly nine times as big as the old one. Porsche Gold Coast, formerly known as Porsche of Roslyn, recently held a grand opening event for its new, 125,000-square-foot facility in Jericho, at 125 S. Service Road. The building has five levels, including one below ground, and holds all the dealership’s more than 200 new and used vehicles inside, including classic cars, said Rocco Del Greco, spokesman for Porsche Gold Coast.See the full story HERE

Anyone can drive most any car without getting themselves into trouble, given enough space, of course. You could put a toddler behind the wheel of a Lambo and set them loose on a wide-open lot, and there's not much to go wrong, really. But driving in tighter confines – say, within a building – takes a bit more skill and a maneuverable car. Something like a Porsche 718 GTS, for example. Or two of them, which is exactly what the German automaker has let a pair of its driving instructors unleash inside the company's new warehouse. See the Full Story Here

Porsche In The News

If anything positive has come out of the crazy, crazy rise in the popularity of classic Porsches, it’s probably the proliferation of marque-centric shows and events that have done nothing but bring the brand’s fans together. It’s also brought a lot of rare cars out of the woodwork, if only to display at public events or trade hands between moneyed collectors.

Porsche Cars North America somehow managed to sell almost exactly the same number of cars in May 2019 as it did in the same month last year, moving exactly 5 more units but with a very different product mix. Cayenne sales make up a huge percentage of last month's 5010 units. In fact, 911, 718, Panamera, and Macan sales are all decreased year on year for the month of May, and it was only Cayenne which experienced a growth. The Full Story Here

In Porsche-landia, finding a matching-numbers Type 356 is far rarer than seeing an actual example of the model being driven on the road. In this case, the term means that it comes with nearly every single part that it was built with from the factory, most notably the engine and the transmission. BarnFinds.com, however, has stumbled upon what appears to be a true unicorn, a matching-numbers 1962 Porsche 356 Coupe, listed for sale on eBay. See the full story HERE

It weighs under 2,000 pounds and packs a 393-horsepower engine. Combining a 1960 Porsche 356B T5 with a 1990 Porsche 964 C2 is no easy task. For one, the wheelbases are different. But for Emory Motorsports, the challenge was minimal considering the team has experience imitating Dr. Frankenstein. Together, the two are now the 1960 Porsche 356 RSR – a hot rod Porsche with menacing looks and insane performance. See the Full Story Here

Public Service Announcements Maryland Real ID—New Drivers License Requirements If you haven’t already visited the MVA to secure a Real ID, the clock is running to meet a federal law. “Please plan ahead,” said MVA administrator, Chrissy Nizer. “The deadline is October 2020 but we don’t want our customers to wait ’till then.” By 2020, older Maryland licenses will no longer exist. The new ones will look different but even if you have one now it won’t be a Real ID until conditions are met. “What that is, is four documents that you need to bring to your local MDOT MVA branch office,” said Nizer. “Those are proof of age and identity.”

Meaning that, along with either a birth certificate or passport, you must also bring a social security card, a driver’s license, and proof of Maryland Residency, like a utility bill or a bank statement. http://www.mva.maryland.gov/realid/index.htm

**AVOID I-895** MAJOR ROADWORK ON I-895 IN BALTIMORE The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) warned motorists today to avoid I-895 and the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel due to major construction and traffic impacts beginning this month. Two-way traffic will operate on I-895 for two years starting Nov. 27. Motorists should use I-695/Key Bridge and I-95/Fort McHenry Tunnel as alternate routes. The work is part of the MDTA’s $189 million I-895 Bridge Project, announced on Dec. 21, 2017, to replace the 60-year-old bridge north of the Harbor Tunnel. “To avoid sitting in traffic, motorists should plan on using I-695 or I-95 as alternate routes,” said Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary and MDTA Chairman Pete K. Rahn. On Nov. 27, northbound I-895 will close completely for one year from the north side of the Baltimore Harbor Tunnel to the Boston/O’Donnell Street exit ramp (Exit 11).

• • • •

Two-way traffic – one lane in each direction – will operate on southbound I-895. The I-895/Holabird Avenue exit ramp (Exit 10) will close completely during this time. Additionally, the northbound bore of the Harbor Tunnel will close 24/7 for 60 days in spring 2019 with twoway traffic operating in the southbound bore. Northbound I-895 and the Holabird Avenue exit ramp will reopen to traffic in spring 2020.

All the tires are mounted, balanced, and include the TPMS sensors. They do not have decorative center caps. Tire Rack sells this exact wheel/tire combo for $2339. PCA Juniors

What is the PCA Juniors program? ✓ PCA Juniors is a program for Porsche enthusiasts under age 18. ✓ Participants must be registered by an active PCA member. ✓ It’s not just the cars… and now it’s not just the grown-ups! ✓ With our new PCA Juniors program, PCA is about the kids too!

The PCA Juniors program has been created so kids can enjoy PCA events, learn about Porsches and build the enthusiasm that runs through all of the Porsche Club of America.

Who is eligible? Any child under age 18 who is registered by a current PCA member can participate in the program. (Note: This is not a PCA Membership.)

What will the child receive? PCA Juniors will receive a welcome package that includes an age-appropriate gift and PCA Juniors ID badge. We look forward to developing the program and its features over time.

What does it cost to register? It’s FREE! Participants must be registered by an active PCA member, and there is no cost to join!
