Chesapeake Region Across the Atlantic: A Special Place at a Special Time!

Wilkommen aus Stuttgart! Fall in Germany usually means Fests and leads up to the Christmas Markets opening. This year, the Fests were verboten but the Christmas Markets are just around the corner. Fall also means we celebrate a holiday a bit more personally - our wedding anniversary! Through the gracious donation of our friends in Chesapeake Region, we received an “all-expense paid” dinner at Christophorus, the restaurant sharing space in the Porsche Museum. Is it exclusive? You bet, I had to make our anniversary reservation nine weeks in advance! Is it expensive? We blew through the entire dinner donation! Is it worth it? Read on!
Restaurant Christophorus started life in the mind of Porsche A.G. CEO Wendelin Wiedeking, who was so impressed with the traditional New York Steakhouse he decided to recreate it in Stuttgart. The steaks are flown in from a supplier in Kansas, so we chuckled a bit when we considered we moved to Stuttgart for Kansas beef. Naturally, the restaurant was well appointed, featured a large wine menu, and excellent mixed drinks. We treated ourselves to champagne as an aperitif, and enjoyed some wonderful German bread as an appetizer, a perfect start! Caesar salads rounded out the first course, preparing us for what came next. Naturally, steaks were the main course and did not disappoint. We both opted for the obvious cut, the filet mignon, paired with onion rings and seasonable vegetables. How does one describe the perfect steak, except by comparing it to something lesser? With a picture, of course! I’m sure we embodied an American stereotype as we took pictures of our gorgeous meals, but we were smitten with the perfection! The steaks had the ideal crust, cooked to an exceptional medium -rare, and our waiter ensured our wine never ran out. Like a summer camp romance, our steak experience ended too soon
