Laura ConMéxico,Cohen1956estudios de fotografía en RISD, inicia su carrera profesional en 1980. Se dedica desde entonces a la fotografía artística. Cuenta con una sólida y muy respetada trayectoria dentro de la fotografía mexicana. Trabaja exclusivamente en blanco y negro, en donde realiza un ejercicio conceptual en cada una de sus imágenes, logrando una abstracción de todo aquello que la inquieta, una metáfora de lo que vive y de lo que siente. Exposiciones · Tiene exposiciones colectivas e individuales en el país así como en el extranjero. Entre las cuales destacan: El II Coloquio Mexicano de Fotografía en 1981, 17 Artistas de Hoy en el Museo Tamayo en 1985, La Mujer en México presentada en Nueva York en 1990, A Shadow Born of Earth, expuesta en varias ciudades de EUA en 1993, Mundo Material en 1998 en Austin Texas, y ha expuesto dos veces en Holanda en el Photofestival de Noorderlicht en 1999 y 2001. Las exposiciones individuales que ha tenido han sido en PhotoEspaña en 1999, la Galería OMR en la Ciudad de México en los años de 1987,1992 y 1997. Tuvo una exposición retrospectiva llamada El Sentido del Orden en el Centro de la Imagen en la Ciudad de México en 2005. Laura LauraMexico,Cohen1956Cohen, a native of Mexico City, has been taking photographs since 1970. She graduated from Rhode Island School of Design obtaining a BFA in Photography. Much of her photography has taken place inside studio walls where she has worked on developing abstract concepts that follow her everyday life. She translates and crystallizes these ideas into photographs by using non-subjective and iconic objects to create her works of art. Concepts that are familiar to any human being like the meaning of life, sadness, yearning, pain, insecurity, solitude, decadence, and many other notions are the main themes that have triggered her to be in the constant invention of images. Cohen maintains a strong and highly respected career in Mexican photography. Working exclusively in black and white, she carries out conceptual exercises in each of her photos, abstracting everything that disturbs her, and through abstraction, encountering communicative metaphors for what she lives and feels. Her work has been exhibited at the Noorderlicht Photofestival, Paris Photo, Houston Photofest, Foto España, and in a solo show at Centro de la Imagen in Mexico City. Her photographs are included in collections such as Fundación Televisa, Lehigh University, Museo de Arte Moderno in Mexico City, Wellesley University Museum of Art, Fundación Jumex, Colección FEMSA, MUAC, Houston Museum of Fine Arts, Sprint Collection of Photography, among others Some of the recognitions she has received are the Medal for Photographic Merit by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) in 2018 and in various moments of her career, she has been a member of the National System of Creators of Art (SNCA) in various moments of her career.
