BACKGROUND
The decrease in economic benefits generated by tourism. The rise of informal employment without any order. The reduction in the quality of visitor satisfaction. The deterioration of the physical and biotic environment in beach areas. The deteriorarion of the life quality of the local population.
GEOGRAPHICAL DELIMITATION The research seeks to generate knowledge of the tourist use in beach areas of 4 pilot beaches: Ayangue Chipipe, Puerto Engabao and Olon.
CHIPIPE BEACH (SALINAS)
OLÓN BEACH
AYANGUE BEACH
PUERTO ENGABAO BEACH
GENERAL OBJECTIVE The project aims at generating scientific knowledge on the use of beach areas by tourism in Zone 5 of Ecuador; it will apply a biotic, geomorphic and socioeconomic analysis. This project aims to provide sustainable development guidelines for sun and beach tourism activities, which are designed to contribute to the objectives 9 and 10 of Ecuador’s National Plan for Good Living: to ensure dignified work in all forms and drive the transformation of the national productive matrix.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES
Beaches biotic analysis Beaches physical analysis Analysis of the tourist services in the area of beach and hinterland. Analysis of demand expectations with respect to tourist use of the beaches. Analysis of expectations beach use by the community.
METHODOLOGY: Basic Research
COMPONENT 1 Beaches biotic analysis.
Beaches biotic analysis. ď Ž
The beach biotic analysis compares the meiofauna composition patterns in two seasons of the selected beaches areas and carries out a multivariate statistical analysis for testing significant differences. It creates the indices for determining diversity and its correlation with environmental variables.
COMPONENT 2 Beaches physical analysis
Beaches physical analysis The second component leads to a physical characterization of the chosen beach areas and communities. The description will focus on geomorphological and physical processes present on all four beaches. Additionally, it will determine current socio-economic uses of the physical space. Based on these characteristics it will outline potential uses of the beach for the different tourism activities identified in the other components.
COMPONENT 3 Analysis of the tourist services in the area of beach and hinterland.
Analysis of the tourist services in the beach area and hinterland. The tourism service supply analysis evaluates tourism on the beach and hinterland areas from a perspective of solidarity economy and transformation of the productive matrix. It will generate guidelines to optimize economic returns and provide employment in all its forms
COMPONENT 4 Analysis of demand expectations with respect to tourist use of the beaches
Analysis of demand expectations with respect to tourist use of the beaches The fourth component explores the factors that affect the tourism and recreational use of beaches from a user point of view. It will focus on the preferences, behavior, and expectations of space usage and study tourist perception of beach management.
COMPONENT 5 Analysis of expectations beach use by the community.
Analysis of expectations beach use by the community.
The last component identifies the needs and expectations of local communities with regard to beach usage with a focus on quality of life and well-being, including perceptions of the local population regarding the use and management of their beach areas.
