Back in 2007 The Colombian Government and United Nations on Drugs and Crime started the Guardagolfo Program in the frame of the paramilitary forces demobilizations in the area. The aim of the program was to bring productive alternatives to communities besides of drug trafficking and war.

Local communities We identified more than 100 families interested in ecotouristic projects. The program involved handicrafts, fishery and crops including in total more than 500 families in all Urabรก Gulf.

Guardagolfo Inclusive: Indigenous communities, afrocolombian, farmers, women, young people, demobilized and community in general were involved.

The impacts and benefits of tourism multiply if the local communities are directly involved as administrators of their own tangible and intangible resources.
An endogenous local development allows communities to care more about conservation of natural and cultural resources.
Tourism as a tool for poverty alleviation This productive activity, provides an alternative income to the families directly involve, and boost economy at a local and regional level.
The government subsidies in this case were invested in a project and the process was guided by an international organization which assure an strategic investment and resources efficiency.

An associative, solidarity and collaborative work among communities, foster values, respect, self-esteem; strengthen identity, networks and bonds.
Tourism as a tool for peacebuilding Peace building is a complex process and the relation between peace and tourism could be diverse. If there is no peace and security, tourism is not possible. But tourism could offer opportunities to locals in places were war and illegal activities were held?
