PEACE FOR CONSERVATION AND PATEL COLLEGE OF GLOBAL SUSTAINABILITY UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH FLORIDA SUMMER INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY Peace for conservation will cooperate with Patel College of Global Sustainability University of South Florida to bring students to work as internship, Students will be hosted by Peace for Conservation and work on the following area: 1. ECOTOURISM Ecotourism is a type of nature based tourism which contributes to maintenance of species and habitats either directly through a contribution to conservation and/or indirectly by providing revenue to the local community sufficient for people to value, and therefore protect, their wildlife heritage areas as a source of income. Activities will be implemented by internship student from USA ●
Organize training for women living close to the protected area to be
used for the ecotourism project as a source to alleviate poverty in the community ●
Interns will participate on writing proposal to seek funds for the
creation of a center for handcrafted goods. The Cultural Center will sell African crafts and African jewelry. The center will be constructed as a gateway to Serengeti National Park. A group of women will prepare handcrafted African jewelry and it will be stored in the center. The tour
guide will direct the tourists or stop the car at women hub center. The tourist can then buy a gift from the Cultural Center. ●
Internship student will be able to visit the National park and other tourist attractions in Tanzania to explore ecotourism around the community living close to national park. They can enjoy nature and experience the wildlife tourism in Tanzania : The cost of park fees will be paid by students , Peace for conservation will provide a transport to park , and accommodation, camping with tents. Food will be prepared by cookers during the camping.

The interns will also assist with program to train local men to lead ecotours. This will provide them with a unique opportunity to fight poaching through education and job training. 2. Water issues Water is a challenge in rural areas. There are a higher higher number of people living in rural area drink unsafe water. Water, sanitation and hygiene in schools (SWASH) is a challenge in most schools located in rural areas. The interns will assist in planning and implementing water sanitation processes for rural villages. This will provide the intern with hands on experience. Activities will be implemented by internship student from USA ●
Provide
WASH education to children in primary and
secondary school , awareness, selfreliance, ●
Conduct teachers training with SWASH manual a "howto" guide for water treatment, hand washing with soap, safe access to water, looking after a latrine, where water comes from. Plus the added option of covering other topics such as environmental conservation, menstrual hygiene management for age appropriate children and some detail on dental hygiene.

Raise awareness of the importance of WASH in the community and school compounds

Provide health education to children on hygiene and sanitation and to educate and encourage hand washing before and after toilet use.

In collaboration with school development committees facilitate construction of hygienic water harvesting and storage, Construction toilets in schools

Visit source of water whereby people used to fetch water in the community
3. ENERGY & BIOGAS
In some schools in the more rural areas, there is not currently any installed electricity. There is no kitchen which can be used for children to have porridge in school or food. solving these issues can reduce the number of school dropout due studying with empty stomach from morning to evening Activities will be implemented by internship student from USA ●
Participate on local and international fundraising to solicit money for solar installation in primary school and health facilities.

Participate on designing proposal for a project of solar microgrid at school and health facilities in rural area.

In collaboration with District Authorities for Department of Biogas, identify rural families and train them on Biogas. Interns can also assist with installing biogas cookers to reduce using trees as a source cooking

Participate on design of electricity in school.
3. TRASPORTATION: Peace for Conservation will accept an internship student to assist with sustainable transport in Tanzania. The intern will participate in the design of a tour route for ecotourism site destination in Tanzania. If the student has an international driving license, they will be allowed to use a small car for office. They can also transport tours (Fellow internship) to go to an ecotour destination like National park, nature walking, etcs. Other activities that students can participate: Sport fishing, canoes tour around Lake Victoria, TV show for elephant conservation education in school and community, participate in football tournament for elephant conservation (Summer Tembo cup) Key: Tembo Swahili word meaning: Elephant Cup Point of Contact: Students interested in the program should contact the Program Director :Chris Koslin chriskoslin@gmail.com Cost associated to host internship: The cost per day is $32.00 US This cost includes room and board.
