Beck, who usually shoots with the Nikon D5 and D4S, recently tested the new 20-megapixel, DX-format Nikon D7500 and was impressed with its performance. With a continuous shooting speed of up to 8fps, Beck was able to capture sequences of surfers, mountain bikers and other athletes with ease, thanks to its “surprisingly fast frame rate,â€? he notes. For Beck, he says, “the most important thing to me was that it was fast, it could follow focus and the lenses were sharp. For a photographer, that’s the bottom line.â€?

OUT OF THE PAST

Louise Dahl-Wolfe Before Avedon, the Harper’s Bazaar VWDÎ? SKRWRJUDSKHU transformed the nature of the fashion editorial. By HILARY REID

But it wasn’t always that way. Pioneering photographer Louise Dahl-Wolfe left formal, staid studio portraiture behind to create editorials that were sensual, lively and drenched in natural light. The daughter of Norwegian immigrants, Dahl-Wolfe was born in California in 1895. In her 20s, she enrolled in the San Francisco Institute of Art, where she studied interior design and art history.
