We have been enjoying some tremendous calving weather as of late with temperatures above zero. As we sit and reflect on the last 12 months we can be thankful for a number of things. The commodity prices hit an all time high, cattle prices were as strong as ever this past fall, and everyone is healthy on the family farm. We look forward to a year with renewed hope for more moisture in the spring in the south to start the pastures and provide for the grain farmers.

As you flip through this year’s catalogue, you will see what we feel to be the most complete set of bulls to date, and we would be more than happy to show you around the pen. There are a few new herd sire groups this year, starting with our high selling bull from 2021 – Elder’s Houlio 4H. We also have sons from our newest addition to the bull battery, JWX Honky Tonk 5005H. We did see again this fall the Charolais sired calves bringing a premium in the auction barns. We do feel in this year’s offering, our bulls will give you the “return on investment” that you need in this highly inflated, fast paced world we live in. Our goal here at Elder Charolais remains the same in our desire to work hard to provide the genetics that will result in providing you, our customer, with top quality bulls that meet your needs. We breed for calving ease, performance with lots of muscle and good bone as well

as strong testicle development, lots of hair and of course, last but not least really good dispositions. In return, we believe that using Charolais bulls will get you a little more jingle in your jeans.

Our bulls are on a TMR ration of barley silage, hay and 14% pellets with a chelated mineral package. Our bull guarantee is simple – if things don’t pan out (as sometimes happens), a call to us will ensure we do our very best to get your cows covered for you.

If you are a new comer to our bull sale, please note that we have video footage of the bulls online to provide you with an opportunity to see them on the move prior to the sale in the event you cannot make it here in person. The bulls are sold on sale day by video, so if time permits, please arrive early and we will be happy to take you through the pens to see the bulls and answer any questions.

2022 Highlights

THIS IS THE 13TH ANNUAL BULL SALE FOR THE ELDERS AND WHAT A GREAT SET OF BULLS THEY ARE PRESENTING TO YOU AGAIN.

Two years ago, they sold Houlio for $110,000 for half interest. Well, he hasn’t disappointed in his breeding prepotency and what a set of sons they have here for your appraisal. The first crop of Honky Tonk calves were admired on the show road last fall with the Agribition Junior and Intermediate Bull Calf Champions both sired by him. They aren’t just show bulls, but sound performance bulls with meat. There are also sons out of their proven bloodlines that have been doing a great job in the industry.

The quality of bulls in their pen will impress the most discriminating cattlemen with lots of hair, shape, performance and structural soundness that will still be good calving. They also run a commercial herd so know what it takes to be profitable and top the market with your calves in the fall. You are dealing with a great family that will stand behind their product as witnessed by the number of repeat customers that come back year after year. Whether you are a seedstock producer or a commercial producer you will find bulls that fit your needs and budget.

Houlio was the lead off bull in our 2021 Bull Sale where he commanded $110,000 for ½ interest and full possession. He was purchased by our good friends down at Lindskov Ranches in South Dakota. Houlio has been used in herds around the globe and will be a huge part of our program moving forward with 14 sons in this year’s sale, as well as 21 heifers in the replacement pen. Houlio consistently stamps every calf with length, hair and a broad top. The 2 things people comment on when they first see these Houlio calves are hair and length of body. Houlio will put performance in your calf crop. We are so impressed with his first set of calves. Houlio was our main AI bull last spring.

Commodore is as complete and sound as you can make them. He is an absolute powerhouse individual with a very strong featured, dominant head that has herd bull written all over it. Commodore represents the Houlio features extremely well with the great hair coat, length of spine, a deep body and chest and a bold rib. Commodore moves out smooth and freely with a big time presence in the pen. He has an excellent disposition and can be easily worked with. Superstar is another long bodied Honky Tonk son with a huge middle that will add pounds to your calves come fall.

We acquired Commissioner from Wienk Charolais of Lake Preston, South Dakota. His calves are all long in the spine, solid square hip, nice head, lots of hair and a good temperament. Commissioner is one of the easiest calving bulls to date that we have had in our bull pen. He follows it up with performance. Commissioner sired the Reserve Grand Champion Female as well as the Sr. Bull Calf Champion at Farmfair 2019 in Edmonton. We have been exceptionally pleased with the progeny Commissioner has put into our herd.

Heifer Bull! Knockout is an exceptionally complete Commissioner son with a killer look. Knockout’s dam is a real good Falcon daughter. He has a very nice head, and is a clean fronted heifer bull prospect. We have been really impressed with the moderate birth weights on the Commissioner sons, yet they still push down the scale at weaning and yearling time. Knockout is a prime example of this starting at 89 lb and weaning off at 820 lb.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable immediately after the sale in Canadian funds. All settlements must be made with the sale clerks before cattle will be released. The right of property will not pass until final payment is made.

Bidding: Each animal will sell to the highest bidder. Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale.

Disputes: Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision is final.

Announcements: Announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements.

Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. All animals left with the seller must be insured.

Certificate of Registration: Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Charolais Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer after payment has been made.

Delivery: Assistance will be given in making delivery after the sale. The purchaser agrees shipping arrangements will be at the convenience of the seller, but will be as soon as practical after the sale, at the buyer’s risk.

Breeder Guarantee: Should any bull fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within six months following the date of purchase or six months after the bull has reached fourteen months of age. The seller has the right and privilege of six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze.

Exception Guarantee: In case where the animal is subjected to any hormonal or surgical reproductive techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold or for sickness not apparent at sale time. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the purchase price.

Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sale manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property.

By Livestock is only acting as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not responsible for failure on the part of either party to live up to their obligations; or for the truth of any warrantees or representations, expressed or implied. By Livestock assumes no obligation to enforce or collect monies between parties. By Livestock assumes no responsibility for any credit extended by the seller to the buyer. Any legal action taken in exceptional cases must be between the buyer and the seller. The buyer must look to the seller for fulfilment of all guarantees and representations.
