White Meadow Charolais Ltd 5th Annual Bull Sale

Page 1

THURSDAY, MARCH 20,

BULL SALE.

What a solid set of long yearling bulls that were born mid-August to midOctober out on grass. They run on grass the next summer into later fall with just a bit of supplement and then brought in to a small pasture so they still get lots of exercise all winter. They have solid feet and legs as a result and will last in the big pastures.

The number of repeat customers, both purebred and commercial, tells the tale of the quality that you can expect here. With an extensive AI program for many years, he has used proven bulls to have the bred in calving ease and performance that we all want to have. This year the sons of LT Countdown are featured and you can see why he is so popular in the industry.

Videos will be available online at www.bylivestock. com so you can have a preview of the offering before you decide you want to go have a look in person. The bulls will be available for viewing at the farm anytime leading up to the end of the sale. Come and view the bulls, their dams and the program in a relaxed atmosphere and get to know Michael if you have not met him before. He has been involved in the Charolais breed all his life and is a real historian on the breed and pedigrees.

The bulls are selling through the DLMS Farmgate Timed Online Auction. Online bidding will open on Wednesday, March 19th at 9:00 am DST and close at 7:00 pm DST on Thursday, March 21th with a racehorse style close with extending bidding time. If you have questions or concerns with this system of selling, give us a call and we can help you out. The farm is located in between Souris and Pipestone, just west of what used to be the town of Deleau. They are just a mile north of Hwy #2 with a sign at the corner.

The buckskin and silver calves are the industry standard now and have been consistently in demand and topping the markets across the country. Don’t pass up the added dollars from crossbreeding with identifiable Charolais genetics and colour.

If Candace or I can be of any assistance before the sale or on sale day, please don’t hesitate to give us a call. We would be happy to help you find a bull that is right for your program.

Sincerely,

ON BEHALF OF AVA AND MYSELF, I

WOULD LIKE TO WELCOME YOU TO OUR 5TH ANNUAL ONLINE BULL SALE.

We are honored and thank you for considering our genetics for your breeding requirements. It is very rewarding for me to see the success our customers, friends and neighbors have in their operations, while reflecting on the small part our genetics have helped contribute. We will continue to strive to earn your trust and business by accessing breed leading genetics that help to continue our customers success.

It has been often said that behind every great bull is a great female. I certainly agree and as such, heavy emphasis has been placed on maternal traits while building our cowherd during the past 40 plus years. Selecting for fertility, longevity, mothering ability, plus milking ability with sound teat and udder quality have been vital in our range calving environment. Artificial Insemination is then used heavily on our cowherd selecting sires that balance calving ease with short gestation length and high growth along with an easy fleshing phenotype that have the ability to produce bulls that can adapt to the various conditions of our customers.

The Charolais breed has so much to offer the beef industry in terms of carcass quality and feedlot efficiency. The ability of the Charolais bull to compliment any breed of cow and produce calves that are immediately identifiable to the buyers as Charcross when they step in the ring is invaluable. I am as passionate about this breed today as I was when I was that young boy who got his first registered heifer 44 years ago.

Delivering bulls every spring is a very enjoyable time for me. It’s a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and customers as well as get the chance to meet new ones. I enjoy our visits and seem to always come away learning something new. This is a great part of the business that I am always grateful for. It is also a reminder how fast the years go by. There are several farms that I once delivered bulls to their parents and even grandparents!

The bulls are summered on grass with access to a low energy high fiber pellet. With the open fall, the bulls ran out quite late this year into November when they were brought home to be further developed. They are fed a 14% pellet along with protein blocks that contain optimum levels of chelated minerals along with free choice grass hay. The bulls have access to a 15-acre paddock for lots of winter exercise.

I invite and encourage you to come for a visit and view the bulls any time before the sale. Many bulls are sold sight unseen every year, so feel free to give me a call anytime. I would be happy to have the opportunity to discuss the traits and goals you are seeking and find the right bull to compliment your cowherd to achieve them.

Sincerely,

WHITE MEADOW LOGAN 25L

This is a bull built for calving ease and more! With a -5.6 BW EPD, he also ranks in the top 1% for calving ease and marbling with above average growth. Smooth design, small head and backed by three generations of calving ease sires from an outstanding female line with excellent longevity. His great great granddam, KMS 4C (mother of KMS 79L, lot 18) is still in the herd. Whether breeding heifers to produce calving ease sons or herd building replacement females, this bull hits the mark!

He comes from low-birthweight genetics and has great individual performance figures indexing 105 on both weaning and yearling weight. His LT Rio Bravo 3181 dam is a sound structured, heavy milking cow in the herd. The Rio Bravo genetics are rare to find today and few bulls will pack as much rib depth into their descendants as he will. He represents that balanced breeding we strive for: calving ease, performance and the ability to sire easy fleshing productive females. Don’t overlook this guy!

4. At closing time of the sale, the entire sale will extend bidding for 5 minutes, if a bid is placed on any lot in the sale. Any bid received after close time will extend the sale by 5 minutes from the time of that bid. When no bidding occurs for 5 minutes, the computer will declare the sale finished.

5. Within 24 hours of the sale close, the Sale Manager will contact all winning bidders to arrange payment, transfer of pedigrees and delivery/pick up of your lot.

WHAT IS A RACEHORSE STYLE CLOSE?

Racehorse style sale close is when the entire sale stays open in extended bidding. This type of sale allows you as the bidder to change to a different lot within the same sale if the bidding has gone in to extended bidding.

HOW EXTENDED BIDDING WORKS

When we get to the close out end time, the clock for close extends with any bid placed with less than 5 minutes on the clock. This type of extended bidding turns the end time to more of a soft time. Extended bidding allows bidders to compete in lots like a real auction and gives all bidders the same time to make a decision. Always follow the clock to see how much time remains in the sale you are interested in.

3. The program allows you to place a proxy bid on any sale lot. This in fact protects your interest in any lot of interest for you to a specified dollar value you set, when you may not be able to give 100% attention to the sale. If the lot has a $2000 bid on it, and you place a proxy bid of $3500 into the system, the computer will bid $2100 for you, but if some one else bids $2200, the computer will again bid for you, this time at $2300. The system will look after your interest to a maximum of $3500. If another bidder is on at $3600, your proxy will no longer be effective and you will no longer have the winning bid on this lot without once again logging in and bidding again, or moving your attention to a second lot of interest.
