FOR CAMP?

Check out these alternative summer experiences.

• Many camps have counselor-in-training programs that teach important life skills, especially patience. Check out Camp Namanu, Trackers or Grace Art Camp for some options across a wide spectrum of interests. If your teen is an athlete, BaxterSports also pays youth coaches as part of its Youth Leadership Training Program. And Portland Parks & Recreation hires teens 15 and older as camp counselors for its citywide program.

• Aspiring writers can get their pens moving at the Fir Acres writing program at Lewis & Clark. Not quite camp, not quite school, but totally cool because it’s on a college campus. College.lclark.edu/programs/fir_acres • Is your teen or tween looking to put some money in their pockets? There are plenty of non-camp job opportunities that can ease your kids into the working world. Think about pet sitting, lawn mowing or babysitting. Not sure where to start? Post to neighborhood groups like Nextdoor or on Facebook.
