elcome to Umbrella, our first-ever directory of accessible and inclusive services and providers in our Portland/Vancouver community. We began this project as a little love letter to our friends and neighbors to help them find the resources they need for their families. We know how time consuming and frustrating it is to spend hours online sifting through information, discovering what you think is the perfect match, only to learn that it no longer exists. We thought we could help because finding, curating, and organizing useful information for families is one of the things PDX Parent does best. Along the way our little love letter kind of exploded. Every time we’d find something to add to the list, we’d find a couple more just like it. This everevolving “first-edition” has more than 800 listings — mostly local — and we believe we’ve just scratched the surface. Umbrella is digital and easy-to-use. From the Table of Contents, click on a category and you’ll jump right to that section. Click on the page number on the bottom and you’ll jump back to the Table of Contents. Web links and email links are active and clickable. Because things are always changing there’s a suggestion link on the bottom of each page. Use this to tell us about necessary corrections or things we simply missed. Your active contributions over the coming months will help make Umbrella a treasured resource for families with specific needs in our community. We don’t expect anyone to feel all warm and fuzzy because of this project. After all, it’s a directory! But our hope is that Umbrella will make many families’ lives just a little bit easier, and as it does, then we’ll feel warm and fuzzy knowing we’ve used our skills and resources to do some good.

Beaverton City Library’s resources for people experiencing disabilities include: books on CD; books in braille; large print books; Library-by-Mail to the Homebound and their Caregivers; pre-loaded eReaders for adults, teens and children; Playaways pre-loaded with audiobooks; Interlibrary Loan, which allows patrons to obtain materials not available through Washington County libraries; and an adaptive technology station for patrons with vision impairments and wheelchair needs. Assistive listening devices, sign language interpreters, or qualified bilingual interpreters can be made available at any public meeting or program at the library with three business days’ advance notice.

Adventures without Limits Milestone Music Therapy

Adventures Without Limits offers fully inclusive outdoor adventure-based trips, including kayaking, rafting, hiking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and more for individuals and families of all abilities.

Milestone Music Therapy exists to empower clients to achieve developmental and neurological goals. We provide 1:1, group, and consultative music therapy services specializing in neurological impairment, autism, and developmental disabilities, as well as early childhood music classes and music therapy assisted childbirth and music for birth consultation services. Northwest Reading Clinic Northwest Reading Clinic specializes in diagnosing and treating difficulties with comprehension, reading and spelling, including dyslexia. We also develop visual memory for letters, sight word recognition, vocabulary, writing, math, and study skills. We work with students aged five through adult and have offices in both Tigard, OR and Vancouver, WA. Following a complete diagnostic evaluation, students attend daily sessions for one-on-one treatment with experienced, well-trained clinicians. Treatment plans are created specifically for each student using a variety of programs, and are individualized to his or her needs.

Decoding Dyslexia Oregon offers monthly education lectures for educators and families. We also coordinate monthly social activities for kids and families to allow networking and support. DD-Oregon provides information and referral services for tutoring and general questions about dyslexia. Dyslexia 101 presentations can be scheduled.

FACT Oregon provides training for families across the state on special education, inclusion, and other disability-related topics. We have a support line staffed by expert support specialists to answer your questions and provide relevant,up-todate information and resources. We organize activities and events for youth who experience disability and their families as an opportunity to build community and connect with other families.

DSLSI provides in home speech and language services and parent training to enhance children’s social communication skills. Treatment is individualized based on family and child needs. A variety of treatment methodologies are used including aspects of developmental approaches and applied behavior analysis. Treatment techniques are chosen based on the child’s individualized goals. DSLSI uses the Project ImPACT (Improving Parents as Communication Teachers) curriculum for parent training. This is an evidence-based program that teaches parents to promote their child’s social-communication skills during daily activities. The program was developed by Anna Dvortcsak, MS, CCC-SLP and Brooke Ingersoll, PhD, BCBA-D.

Northwest Reading Clinic specializes in diagnosing and treating difficulties with comprehension, reading and spelling, including dyslexia. We also develop visual memory for letters, sight word recognition, vocabulary, writing, math, and study skills. We work with students aged five through adult and have offices in both Tigard, OR and Vancouver, WA. Following a complete diagnostic evaluation, students attend daily sessions for one-on-one treatment with experienced, well-trained clinicians. UCP Disability Services For more than 60 years, UCP of Oregon has been fiercely dedicated to serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities such as Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Aspergerâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Syndrome, Down Syndrome, Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, ADD, and others.
