What beautiful weather we have had, long may it continue although perhaps a tad cooler. Also a 4�� place in the World Cup, I really enjoyed watching our boys play, I actually felt proud for once! Also as I am writing this Geraint Thomas and Chris Froome are doing well in the Tour De France so loving the hour long highlights in the evenings especially now they are in the mountain stages. Sam and I were invited to the Young Mayors Fundraising Event a while ago. I often get quite nervous at these events but I shared a table with fellow business people from the area as well as our local Police Officer and had a lovely time. So lots to be happy about really! All I need now is a holiday to top it off.

ean Views Upgrade your TV viewing for £20 ... just stick in a stick August is traditionally the month for scotching hot weather and lousy television. I cannot change the weather but I can suggest some budget pay TV options. The three main players in the budget pay TV market are Netflix, Prime Video and Now TV. The main entry point for all three is a £7.99 month package which is on a rolling 30 day contract there is no long term commitment. If you do not have an Internet enabled television then the easiest way is a streaming stick. The Fire TV stick (£39.99) allows access to Prime Video and Netflix (but not Now TV or YouTube). The NowTV stick (from £19.99) allows access to Now TV and YouTube (but not Prime Video or Netflix). Now TV sticks come in four versions: Kids, Entertainment, Movies or Sports. They vary by the voucher in the box which is at least a free month. For this exercise I purchased an Entertainment stick with a two month voucher. All you do is create an account at www.nowtv.com/setup, enter your address, create a password, enter your card details and type in the voucher number. Unbox the stick, plug it in a HDMi socket, attach USB cable to the stick and the other to the supplied USB plug (or into a USB socket on the TV.

Tune the TV to the HDMi socket. The stick starts, select your WiFi, enter the WiFi password, finally the email address and account password you setup. A minute or so later you have live TV: Sky One, Sky Atlantic, Sky Living, Gold, Discovery, MTV, FOX, Comedy Central, Syfy channels + 300 Boxsets. Add into the mix access to catch up services: iPlayer, All4, 5 Demand, ITV Player and UK TV Player (Dave, Really, Yesterday and Drama). Before the free voucher expires either cancel, buy a top up voucher from a supermarket or just let it renew automatically. The top up vouchers are better value. When you have had enough just cancel. If you wish to restart your membership buy another voucher, enter it on to your account and away you go...... It sure beats repeats of Columbo every day....

Well, there is an exciting development that has taken place. I often feel very anxious when I have this type of treatment done but this time there was very little discomfort and I did not feel too much anxiety. I think this was due to being already very relaxed and comfortable in my surroundings.
I enjoyed a spa bath for my feet with the added benefit of a Carly brings a blue tooth device so music can be played but I lovely peppermint foot mask. Football is back! FOR FOOTBALL FANS everywhere they say it’s been a long time since the end of last season. For nonfootball fans they say it doesn’t seem long since the season ended! And with England’s World Cup exploits so keenly followed by millions in June and July an increase in attendance and participation is expected as a direct result. But the calendar doesn’t lie and on Saturday August 4, Peacehaven & Telscombe kick-off their Southern Combination League campaign. Because of The Directory copy deadline, at the time of writing the fixtures have not yet been released, but check the club’s website to see when Haven will be at home.

50 Local Information & Events Visit to Driftwood Garden Diane Salter (back row standing, on the left) decided to organise a visit for members of the Peacehaven Women's Institute to Driftwood Garden this week on the back of her own enjoyable experiences in previous years… 12 intrepid members joined her on Tuesday 26�� June. The entry to the garden was quite a challenge to some members but Geoff Stonebanks, garden owner was on hand to help them up the drive. A picture says a thousand words, and as you can see, an enjoyable morning was had by all. The top attraction, well besides the garden, seemed to be Geoff's delicious cakes, much commented on by the ladies with Diane writing in the visitors book, "Brilliant as always, cake exceptional", and Teresa writing "A wonderful garden and so enjoyed the tea and cake." Charingo afternoon A Southern Stomp charity event advertised in the May edition of the magazine This event raised a magnificent £1,055 for the Martlets. As with all of these types of events, Teacher Joy Ashton was worried that there would not be enough ‘Bums on seats’. Instead they had 120 local residents and the Line Dancers come out to support this event. They really had a “Full House” !

Martlets is looking for keen cyclists to take on the challenge of its London to Paris sponsored bike ride this September… The challenge is set over five days, between 12�� and 16�� September, and will see cyclists in the saddle for four of those days. Beginning at Crystal Palace the ride winds through quiet Kent country lanes, picturesque northern France and onto belle Paris before reaching the finish line at the Eiffel Tower. Antonia Shepherd from the hospice’s Fundraising Team said, “It’s three hundred miles, so it is quite a challenge, but with the right training and our support it’s definitely achievable. “The ride usually has more than a hundred other cyclists taking part, so whether you are an experienced club rider or a complete beginner you will soon find others who are at your level to cycle with”. “Registration is £125 and you must pledge to raise a minimum of £1,600 in sponsorship for us”. “In return we’ll provide accommodation, travel, medical support and your meals and refreshments on cycling days”. “The money you raise will help us to continue to provide our life changing care for local families.” For further details email clem.hunnisett@martlets.org.uk or telephone 01273 747455. www.themartlets.org.uk

Community Voice… The older I get the more amazed I become at the working of the intricate yet delicate organ of the human body the Brain. For example, how is it I cannot remember what I did last week yet I can recall, in minute detail, what I did one wet Tuesday afternoon 45 years ago. Furthermore when I want to recall a name, say, of a film, an actor, a sportsman, a street, any name it won't come into my mind no matter how hard I try,then a few days latter and for no reason at all it pops out. The trouble then is I have forgotten why I wanted it… Hey Ho. or is it. Ho Hey. I’ve forgotten which... Not to worry it will come to me in a few days time.
THE FALL OF PEACEHAVEN I like many others, read the item in the last District News about the problems caused in Peacehaven by bad planning… The recent attempt to usurp most public cars parks between Telscombe Cliffs and Seaford coupled with the debacle of Hoddern Farm are hall marks of the attitude of the planning department at Lewes towards the south coast. The attitude is one of contempt: Peacehaven in particular, is regarded as a rubbish skip where a free-for-all exists to dump anything in the area, regardless of intense and widespread objection from residents. Concerns over the lack of infrastructure and the increasing problem with traffic through the area are disregarded with impunity. Personally, I make no attempt to return home along the Coast road from the Seaford end between the hours of 4.30 - 6.30 pm during the working day: the roundabouts in Newhaven near Sainsbury’s are intimidating: the single lane traffic queuing to go over the bridge turns into a 2/3 lane exit where traffic speeds along the outside lane to push in at the front, and the same happens on entering the one-way system at Newhaven centre, such is the volume of traffic and driver frustration on the A259 approaching Peacehaven. There is a need for an independent public enquiry into the Hoddern Farm affair to answer public concerns: If this attitude at Lewes and East Sussex goes unchallenged things will get even worse than they are at the moment.
